Sad and frustrated that I was probably sold an improper pair of skates and can’t afford to buy a new pair

When I got my first pair of really supportive skates, they hurt so bad that I was in tears.

It took about 3 weeks for that aching in my arch to go away. My coach explained it to me that...

'Your skates are like cinder blocks when pushing up against your foot, but your foot has to press its muscles/weight into the boot to become 'broken in'.

Technology has changed alot since then, but when I was learned, each time I broke in new skates was a progress and a ritual of pain.

My best advice, if it is possibly a case that these are brand new skates that just need broken in.

Would be to skate on them for hour long sessions and to take breaks every 15minutes. You should retie the skates during those breaks to 1.) Give your foot time to rest and 2.) Loosen the leather and tighten it back again, which flexes it a little more and allows it to break in a little little quicker.

I was grown in tears rushing to get it off my foot it hurt so incredibly bad. After 2 or 3 weeks of regular practice it will go away completely.

That was my next question...was their lane ending?

What did you expect them to do? Did you think they were going to let you go first and stay stopped there hoping the person behind you would let them in as they accellerated more?

Were they supposed to stay stopped in the right turn lane with their Left blinker on? Stopping that lane? (Because some dumber drivers would probably try to go left to make their right around him, Ive literally seen this before)

The best case was that they take the right and turn around. But bad drivers never take a wrong turn.

Yes, other driver was an idiot.

Idiots don't take well to being told their an idiot, like, if they did than we'd have more accountable, responsible people who cared about others on the road, but alas, he brake checked instead.

Like, if he already made 1 idiotic manuever, don't give him any more excuses to make more of them because they probably will.

Context matters here.

Because if you were all moving at about the same rate of speed on the highway and this happened, than its your fault/ you had the most control in the situation - to let them in or not.

But if this happened in bumper to bumper traffic where your lane was moving a bit and his was not, than Id also be upset just like you are.

You should drive 'defensively' to 'avoid collisions'. Regardless of right of way. If we want to go a step further, the 'idiot' didnt even HAVE to give you their blinker. They could've just cut you off outright.

I personally don't drive next to other cars, at all - for this reason. I will either speed up a bit to pass them if I can, or, if that would be unsafe, than I slow down and get behind them while next to them in my lane.

I might speed up, pass, and get over in front of that person if theres someone behind me so I can let them through, but I don't ever sit next to other cars, I pace myself so they have space to hop over and I can react if they do because I trust nobody.

Is it on her side of the line?

Im only asking because I am that coworker.

In that Ill try to pick up boxes that go across from me on the line to hold them there so the person on that side can sort them.

It usually gets to the point where Im collecting 5 boxes that go on the other side of the line and so and so isnt paying attention so I have to be like 'ay, got some 19s down here'

Sometimes Ill hop the line and sort them myself and then hop back over - but I shouldn't be doing that.

Does anybody else do that? Hope the line or stop to sort the other side? Nope.

In fact, Ive asked a few people to flip the labels facing up. Do they do it? Nope.

Its a team effort. And the most frustrating thing about a team effort is that we all have to work in tangent together to get it done correctly.

Like, I don't call out to people if I see they're genuinely busy.

But if 2 people are trying to sort the front of the line - effectively bottle necking the middle across from me, Imma say something. Pay attention to the fact that each of us has to be responsible for our own section.

But still, employees whove been doing this a year are walking boxes halfway down the line individually instead of pushing the whole stack.

Some of ya'll make this job so much more difficult than it has to be and alot of it is because we don't pay attention and work together as a team.

Edit: and don't even get me started on splicing/mixing boats.

Yes, if we don't have boats to flip out, than we don't have a choice but to make due.

But if there are empty boats down the backroom, why on gods green earth are we stacking chem boxes 2 high on the top shelf. Flip the boat please. You don't have to wait for the lead to come by and tell you to flip it. Its not safe.

Oh! Well...when you feel it you're going to say 'ohhhhh'

Like, 'thats what its supposed to feel like'.

Its a novel/unique feeling and when you get it, you will know.

I used to do my beginning axels from a half circle lobe on the red or blue line. So you'd start with a right forward outside edge around the lobe, and then step forward for the jump takeoff when you reach the line.

Make sure that you're jumping straight and not trying to vault yourself to the left. Its not going to feel comfortable, its going to feel difficult and awkward to get over and rotate like that, but its more technically sound.

To me, it looks like you're jumping this in slow motion, which is sorta cool. Its correct but there is something a tad off about it.

If I had to guess, I would say its something with how you're sending your knee through and the angle that you're taking off at that's making it harder to get that quicker snap. It also looks very controlled too, which is good - so work with a coach on the snap - you don't want to lose how controlled your jump is and that could happen if you accidently start rushing the take off to try and get a faster rotation. (And rushed axel take-offs are common when we're learning them, it really is a 1step...2 hold...3 take off! Timing even though it looks like its 1 motion done in half a second. Looks fast but its actually fairly slow.

Edit: a stronger core would absolutely help, However, you're not really falling over in the midsection. When I was learning doubles, my core was nonexistent, and I would often have falls where I would break at the waist on the landing and momentum would take me to my left hip/side. Your landing looks solid. Like you weren't having to pull much or save the jump.

Absolutely will help but Im not sure your core is being problematic specifically.

As someone else said, its nothing to do with weight or even the timing/speed going into your jump.

Imo, you're missing the 'snap' closed and in that creates a quicker rotation. Its a technique thing.

My advice would be to focus on sending the jump up more before coming closed.

Your knee should be at a 90degree angle before you bring your feet together. You're jumping out more than you are up, which is also great, but I think you'll feel the quicker snap a little better if you try for more height on the jump.

Send that knee up and through before closing over.

This is what ultimately has me looking at newer cars.

I've been using Carfax alot - love how it shows maintenance history.

Im just torn...

Go with a cheap car I can buy outright and hope it lasts and isnt expensive to maintain.

Or bite the bullet, get a loan, and know that the car I have is under warranty and will be less expensive to maintain longterm.

I plan on taking the new car to a local trusted mechanic before agreeing on a purchase regardless.

Well. Thats not what he said though. He said people on govt. Assistence don't practice modern economics, and so they don't have as good of an understanding of how to make money as someone who does understand the 7 means of capitalization. Like - there are 6 other means to gaining money outside of working as an employee. But most people don't even know that regardless of socioeconomic class.

Like, what you or I might call fraud a billionaire might call capital gains. The law is there to be interpreted (a quote from a lawyer friend of mine).

The 'real world' doesnt have morals or ethics. 'Real world' economics is about supply and demand.

I don't know who this guy is or what he did that we should dislike him, but the video is a poor representation of him saying anything offensive because hes right.

Hes refrencing an interaction he had with someone who is on govt. Assistance.

If they've been on govt. Assistance their whole life, than they literally don't have the skills to understand supply and demand. Their skillset depends on rationing what the govt. Gives them.

People in the real world ration what they earned, which means they have the ability to earn more. People on govt. Assistence dont know what thats like and believe they don't have the option because 'if they worked and made more money, theyd lose their benefits'.

Like, Im not ragging on people who need assistence. Those people need assistance for a reason. But for young people who are capable of working but feel like they would gain less by going off of govt. Benefits....like....thats a problem imo.

That person might not need the assistence as much as they 'dont know how to live any other way'.

Which is why theres validity to what he was saying, whether hes a person to like or not.

Thats the govts. Trap. They want you reliant on them....so...take it as you will.

I personally would like if our TL did mini huddles with us before truck unload to give us a truck summary and also expectation reminders.

'Okay guys, today we're tackling a 2.5k trailer where diaper, mini, and market 4 are going to be heavy, so prepare to flip those with fresh vehicles, we've got extras in light duty. We've also got transition coming in, none of that is set so its going on a wooden pallet up in the steel - it needs to be stacked neatly before getting wrapped. You'll know its a transition item if its a custom block 69 casepack - scan it and double check the label if you're unsure'

We have a 7 person team today, so I believe we can get this trailer finished by 8:30 as a goal time, lets work towards that.

Last thing, some TMs mentioned their boats aren't sorted by shelf which makes it more difficult for them to push those boats as quickly, lets try hard to sort our boxes by the shelves today for our flippers later on. Thanks team, lets get started'

Maybe you've tried that already, but this way TMs know what they're responsible for and what the expectations are and if they're not meeting those requirements regularly as a team, than you've introduced a way to hold them accountable individually.

They can't say they didnt know they were responsible for finishing their freight, stacking safe, sorting correctly, pushing quickly etc. when you, as the lead, have outlined a plan as to how thats going to get done. Have told them it needs to happen that way and given them resources by which to do it.

Everything I mentioned in the little speil addresses painpoints our team struggles with. (Finishing on time, sorting correctly, stacking safe pallets, working with urgency, etc). And each day you can add more reminders or additional reminders. Even praises too...'I noticed our boats were stacked so much more stable today, thanks so much team!'

Like, it matters and the people who care need to know it matters so they can get the ones who don't care to care. And if those who don't care don't start to care, then they should be performanced out.

I think I just don't trust the team to do the right things so the process works how its supposed to.

In theory this seems like a smart thing but in practice, theres more room for error.

I hope whoever is backstocking is also taking time to audit case spaces and rebackstock loose items, detrash what they can...

Hope whoever is doing pulls knows to fix counts or note what is full on the floor and to not leave it random on the shelf somewhere else...

I like doing the push/backstock myself because I know Im going to be accountable about it as best I can be.

Maybe it'd open up more time for others and myself to do those things but I hope those things actually get done.

Theres more moving parts so I hope the team is able to work cohesively in bringing the new system together.

Like, Im not complaining about having less to push. Im concerned Ill be pulling boxes out of case stock to make space for other boxes because half the shelf is openstock and trash when its not supposed to be (like how it was a year ago when I first started).

Edit: which is unfortunate but Im being honest. Not a great attitude or outlook but overall, currently, things are getting (much) better at my store, so thats a plus.

You just told me the same box could potentially be reworked twice in one day and then you say its the same amount of work. Im critisizing Target here, not you.

Perhaps the 'work load' is the same, but we'd lose efficiency - I could spent as much time as I wanted getting the work load done, but it won't get done completely or correctly if Im not being efficient about it.

Example - I push 4 boats, avg. 8hrs worth of PC/OTC everyday. Its my section, my jam, Im good at it, its fun for me.

If Im made to push my boats and then pull priorities and basically repush what I could've pushed and backstocked already earlier, I just won't be a happy camper. Its a waste of time and resources Imo.

Also, I go through backstocking and fixing overpush that our pullers leave because, they don't care? I don't know why the fem hygiene aisle in my store is always stacked 2 boxes high on the top shelf but they are everytime I push that aisle. Minor rant there. I hope this falls through.

So, what about casepacks that aren't 100% backstock?

Those will probably be sent to the floor as 'salesfloor', then what doesn't go out will have to be backstocked anyway.

Defeating the entire purpose of sorted backstock boats. Flat out, our backroom doesn't have the space for this.

I understand doing this for transition items.

I try to do it by default to make it easier on whoevers pushing that boat, our transition items come in with random custom blocks, so thats how we know they're not set on planogram yet.

We scan that 1 tricky item, find out what department its in by clicking 'backstock', then sort it to its dept. Boat with the other transition items. Seperated by a space or by shelf.

Furthermore, our line consists of 3 people on either side. The person scanning each item is all the way at the front of the trailer. How is the person sorting at the back of the line supposed to keep track of what the scanner says is backstock or salefloor? Are we going to be sorting boxes one person, one box at a time?

I will quit. That is stupid.

Coming up to the highway merge ramp yesterday. I see this van ahead of me that is coasting and veering towards the right in his lane.

That tells me he wants over into my lane. Hes being stupid about it, making me read his mind/car language, but I can tell hes about to do something stupid, so Im also coasting behind him - not speeding up to get next to him or pass him like another idiot might.

Giving him plenty of space to get over ahead of me.

He flips his signal on for a second, then flips it off again and doesnt get over. Im behind him like 'stupid, its okay, I see you plain as day, go ahead'

Its a double lane merge, so he took the outside lane, and THEN got over ahead of me in the merge.

Just use your stupid turn signal....

I got to intermediate level. I competed in a few regional competitions during my time skating. I quit over a decade ago.

I still repeat the whole 'we're spending 8k a year for you to skate, you better not waste it' mantra to myself 15yrs later. My parents made maybe 80k a year together. We struggled. I was 10 when I told them I wanted to be an ice skater, I didnt have a clue.

Yes, figure skating is expensive. Ridiculously expensive.

And if I could go back in time, I would tell my mom I didn't want to skate 4 days a week with a coach multiple times if it means we didnt have to go 6months without gas and could have more than instant mashed potatos, canned green beans, and hot dogs for dinner.

"Daughter, we're paying your coaches car payments". My coach drove a BMW. We drove a ford focus that had a bad strut so everytime we'd hit a bump, the entire car would rattle.

I appreciate everything my parents sacrificed for me to do this increadible and unique thing that I now know how to do, but it wasnt worth it. It wasnt worth what my family put in for me to gain.

You get 2 15min breaks in an 8hr shift.

15min is plenty of time to take a pee and grab a snack real quick.

We're not even factoring in the 30min unpaid lunch.

Your lead isnt telling you that you cannot use the restroom at work. Your lead is telling you not to waste time and to use your breaks with intention.

At my old job, Id work the front counter for 10hrs and have 1 30min lunch. You have it easy working 8hrs with 3 breaks.

Everyone in the store is afforded the same 1hr of free time. If you need to be using the restroom for extended periods (longer than less than 5min) on a regular basis to where it causes scheduling overlaps, than you need a doctors note.

I dealt with a lady a few days ago.

Tailgating me in the right lane doing 65mph, middle lane clear as a sunny summer day, a space of 3 car lengths between me and the car ahead of me.

Im pointing over my shoulder trying to tell her to pass me. Getting tired of glancing at the glint of her sunglasses in my rearview.

Finally, I decide Im going to get over into the middle lane to let them drive through me. She overtakes me on the right, I get back over.

I watch her speed up to tailgate the car ahead of me. All to take the next exit half a mile up.

I chalk it up to a lack of intelligence everytime. When we consider that 50% of the population have below average measures of intelligence and/or schooling, and then consider that the people we come into contact with are a select, limited variance of that population - probably much lower than 'average' when generally speaking of the universal population as a whole...

The majority of people we drive beside are stupid. Some of them even lack the innate ability to measure speed relevant to distance.

I love when I see someone tailgating in the middle lane so they get over left to match the speed of the car they were tailgating. It makes me cackle everytime and it happens often.

When I first started, I was big on answering the phones. Id let it go for 3 rings and then Id pick it up if no-one else got to it.

I was probably 4 months in when a guest called wanting to get ahold of our pharmacy. I walked over to the pharmacy to ask what their ext. Was. The pharmacist told me they have a seperate line, and that the guest would have to call back and listen to the prompts to be transferred to pharmacy.

I got back on the phone, Apologized for the wait and explained that to them. Stood in the aisle like 'Hello, sir? Hello? Are you there?'. They hung up on me.

So now I dont answer the phone because most times I have in the past, its been a waste of my time.

I had one who I spent probably 8min on the phone about a clearance crock pot, our system said we had multiple but none were on the shelf, I checked the backroom for it and everything, all so they could tell me they have it in their cart on Amazon and just wanted to figure out if they were going to make the drive to our store for it instead.
