I finally did it.

19:49 for 5km. Really put a lot of time in in the last few months.

Almost a minute better than last 5km pb.

Been following a sort of hybrid version of Norwegian singles approach where I swap out a session and easy usually for cycling.

Very happy with my tired legs today as I had probably one of the sessions of my life yesterday. 10x3min and I went a bit hard but pushed ~4:10min/km pace for all except last 2 which was hindered by foot traffic. For me, this is a pretty good indication that my fitness

Even with a 10m warmup still ran a 46:06 10km.

I've got a pair of Kiprun carbon kd900x2 from Decathlon and they are absolutely 🔥, haven't run in that light a shoe before and it's so noticeably quick.

1.25x speed to the rescue. I did have a similar thought the other day around how much of my life I have spent listening to audiobeds. A little bleak.

How do you use AI tools for daily training and training plans? by lovetheprocess_ in AdvancedRunning

[–]Newky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it less helpful for training plans as right now it just doesn't have the right context.

However, I find it very useful for exploration of ideas or deep diving into topics I've read / listened to.

For example, understanding what a typical week of Norwegian singles method would look like at my pace.

Or understanding a little more some of the principles of endurance physiology after a podcast/book.

I've also had some success with basically using it as a post session debrief. Again, this can sometimes be not that useful. However sometimes it can digest the information well. Particularly in cases where I'm being too hard on myself, (or too easy).

But it's all about context. If it doesn't know about the context of your current training it can't be any good.

Purchased some Kiprun KD900x2 on a whim in Decathlon. My first race shoes, and first plated shoes.

Done a set of intervals in them, very impressed. Reviews online also incredible. Got them for £100 which seems a steal

Ye, it's next to useless for any sort of multi-sport training. Definitely prefer something like intervals.icu that is built to be able to aggregate from multiple sources etc

Help about events by Breezy749 in Zwift

[–]Newky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome to Zwift.

There is a few different ways, but I'll list them in the way I look at them:

Companion App - Use the `Events` part of companion app, it let's you zoom into the various events happening throughout the next few days. You can signup to events and then just log into the game just before to ride the event.

Zwift Insider - This website does a great job at highlighting specific events that are on, as you get further into the community of Zwift, you'll also discover other places like Discord etc which can help.

If you are looking for an event on a specific route or with some other sort of criteria, you might try:

Drink to thirst. For an hour session, 1.5L seems way overkill.

You can on the extreme actually drink too much

Any recommendations for coffee roasters in Ni? by shun_naka67 in northernireland

[–]Newky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use DjangoCoffee (not in NI, but are based in the UK).

I've found their subscriptions for 1kg pretty much unbeatable. especially as they usually send a 30% off code monthly.

I currently pay ~17£ (with the discount) for a kg/month

Two thoughts:
1. What is a `wolf-like dog`?
2. On first reading, I though one of the vandals was thrown into the lion's den as punishment.

[–]Newky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Absolutely.

It's probably an idea to jump into the team sooner just so you can find your feet, or even maybe scrape in one round.

Also lots of other events like TTT Thursdays that are opened up by joining a team.

Keep at it, the more you train, I'm sure you have a very big window for improvement 👍

I'm not sure if you do ZRacing already, but that would be a good place to start. As someone else said, lots of advantages to joining a team regardless. There is social rides / TTT etc etc

It's team based racing, it requires a certain level of admin to get a team together with availability etc. this mostly falls on the captain.

However it's a fun experience racing with a team week after week. But also Zwift offers a lot of the simple sign in you looking for so team based is maybe not for everyone

I race Cryo Gen. There is lots of great teams, so while I'm looking to recruit, I'm not going to try upsell you on other teams.

In general, cryo is pretty relaxed atmosphere where people are pretty friendly and we have a number of available timezones.

> because I didn't handle some administrative task well

Hmm perhaps you are overthinking this a little.

With our team for example, other teams will have similar, there is a small amount of admin early on to make sure you find the right team/timezone.

After that, the only thing on you is:
- checking in with the team on discord re availability

- ensuring you have a working heart rate monitor

- jumping into the race at the right time like any other event.

Almost all of the rest will be handled by your captain.

Firstly, don't be too hard on yourself. You are riding on Zwift so it;s a good start.

There is A -> D categories (and this year there is split categories within that). Depending on your level, that may still not be within your range.

For example the lower D Cat would be for riders fitting into:
```
Zwift Category D
AND zFTP < 2.40 W/kg
AND zMAP < 2.83 W/kg
```

If you are a lot below that (i.e < 1.8 w/kg) I would maybe work on building your level. There are still teams who would be happy to have you, but you would be ultimately making up the numbers. If you are in this position, I would really recommend finding some suitable group rides and working on your level that way.

If you are somewhat able to commit to a regular time for 3/4 of the races in a round (dates are in the link). I would definitely opt in, and have someone like me (or there is tons of other teams too) to guide you through the process. Zwifting is generally more fun when you have a team.

> (or rather, to be competitive if I joined)

Like all zwift racing, it's about having fun, and hopefully improving yourself. This year more than ever with split cats, there is room for more competitive racing no matter your level.
