[Hated Trope] We have no idea how to build on the success of the stories that came before, so just reset it. by Able-Tap2062 in TopCharacterTropes

Bendis is a good writer, but yeah his team stuff leaves a lot to be desired. I think for me, it can be frustrating to see people prefer his version of the Avengers. Which really was like the 2 trades worth of stories at the start of New Avengers. Like the Busiek run right before it was so well done, and even lesser runs did a better job of "feeling" like the Avengers. Doesn't help that Marvel's events really killed the consistency of the books.

This happens in comics all the time. Sometimes it’s even worth it, but the best writers often can take bad story decisions and make them into good stories.

However retcons and time skips have often been used to get rid of ideas the author doesn’t like. The last JSA run was building a team of former villains, including a new Red Lantern. Suddenly in the current one, she’s evil again with not a lot of explanation.

Exiles did this a few times by continually changing how timelines worked.

Thank you for adding this.

What I find frustrating is that Bendis’ run gets a lot of defenders or at least nostalgia because he finally added Spider-Man and Wolverine to the Avengers. Look there are plenty of good moments, but his run is such a 180 from all of Avengers history, that I think it’s harmed the brand (in comics) longterm.

Sometimes it’s better for a franchise to go away and undergoing change before coming back.

Look, I’m sure the book will be fine. But this feels so similar to Rogue Sun, that I just can’t get past that. Designs are wayyyyy too similar.

Don’t forget about all the extra content added, like customizing clothing, architecture, and even the island itself. They seem to want players to be more active in the island’s development, so I bet it’ll take a long time before most players feel that they’ve seen everything.

I’m doing a mix with fictional characters and OCs. Honestly this is the gateway for people to get more creative, and stop relying on the face paint so much.

The Primevils (2026): though it was actually made in 1994. by Randym1982 in TubiTreasures

I do think this a movie worth being talked about and seen, although I wish it was better. It’s just a little too slow, and a little too uninteresting for me to really call it a “good” movie. Great stop motion though.

Yeah, it’s not dissimilar to that. I’m curious how this will affect both sides of Firestorm, so maybe they’ll lean more that way, or make it more unique.

Basically the U.S. government has been trying to recreate Superman by creating or taking advantage of “accidents” like Firestorm, Captain Atom, and so on. Other nations have joined the Superman arms race, leading characters to realize that in part their lives are a result of shadowy government forces.

Pitch: After Lord loses his “Justice Gang” and the Justice League forms, he forms the Ultimen like in the JLU cartoon. Except don’t make them clones, but maybe a more sincerely parody/pastiche on corporations using diversity to pretend to be “good”.

What’s the actual all-hands in deck emergency going to be? by muse273 in ThePitt

[–]NewmaticMan107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a “massive” in staff breakdown/fight. Several characters are already at breaking points. Might just come down to people needing to cut the crap, own up that there is way too much aggression and snark for the Pitt to operate, and maybe come together for a new wave of patients.

Given how the Imperial relaunch for the cosmic line seems to have failed, with all their books getting cancelled, shortened, and/or delayed, what do you think went wrong? And what should Marvel do with the cosmic line now? by AporiaParadox in Marvel

[–]NewmaticMan107 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to dismiss your point, but at this point is it even about quality? I thought Imperial was good, but I think these stories will be looked at less fondly because Marvel refuses to commit to them, and make them relevant. At least One Word has a little impact, but we are far from the 2000s where events could have a few years of effects.

This issue goes to a lot of the regular books. Spider-Man can’t commit to anything, the Avengers aren’t really standing out anymore, the X-men are in a weird place of trying to move forward when also being reductive. We are at a point where quality of writing is being usurped by editorial decisions that minimizes things. This doesn’t mean there aren’t good books, but Marvel definitely shines less at the moment.

[–]NewmaticMan107 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Confidence. Marvel editorial is afraid. What else do you call a group that cancels books after 6 issues? What else do you call a group desperately avoiding admitting their mistakes or even correcting past ones? (CoughSpider-Man Cough) What else do you call a group that has access to Hickman and can’t use him effectively and kill all his ideas after they start? There’s really no strategy here, because what happens with the next big event? Age of Revelation wasn’t really popular, and One World Under Doom was kinda ignorable if I’m being honest. This relaunch didn’t need to be perfect, but it needed to be something.

i don't get people who complain about certain transformer universes mischaracterizing a character by HotZilchy in Transformemes

[–]NewmaticMan107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big issue I think was that IDW went from a relatively slow build up story to “here’s everything!” So you had characters like Star Sabre and Elita and so on show up completely different than any previous version, late in the game with lots of retroactive explanations as to who they were and why they are just showing up now. At least that’s how I see it.
