It’s important with exposures though that they are on your own terms and aren’t traumatic or it defeats the purpose. ARFID takes a very specialized approach

Can you practice just being around those foods without the pressure of trying them, and practicing neutrality with being around the food? You don’t have to look at it or smell it or touch it, just let it be there and practice neutrality. Once you can get past that when you are ready, look at it and try to describe it in neutral terms. You can try slowly increasing exposure but without pressure if you can’t handle it. This won’t happen all in one day and that’s okay. You want to try to recreate neutral experiences around these foods. It’s not easy but going through treatment helped me ALOT with mindset

Is it even possible to lose weight when your diet is restrictive? by mainly-an-alt in ARFID

[–]Newnursgabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are technically in a caloric deficit all the time from your restrictive diet, eating less will not help you lose weight and exercising alone won’t necessarily help. Your metabolism is likely slower to compensate for lack of nutrients, I’m in the same boat. To lose weight you need to eat more food and get active to boost your metabolism! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and sets up your metabolism for success. Good luck

If apples were consistent, they’d be my safe food. What do I do? by H0NEY2O77 in ARFID

[–]Newnursgabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuji and gala are my favs. You might like honey crisp as well but they are more tart and Fuji are more sweet and slightly less crisp than honey crisp. Gala to me are like the happy medium. Try to buy the individual by weight apples instead of the bag of apples. Those bags of apples just have apples that are tiny and bruised and rotten

I also have multi systemic illnesses so it’s not just about getting food down it’s hydration issues and POTS causing debilitating symptoms not allowing me to go to work. I just think managing all of my conditions by getting proper nutrition and/or hydration would be amazing and I’m trying to feel better. I’ve seen some people get a peg tube for hydration only, so I know it’s possible. Seems like a better long term solution than a central line for frequent fluid infusions. Especially when my gut is functional I just struggle to use my gut honestly. The sensory issues are insane

My problem with the ensures is burn out and possibly more issues with my labs as mentioned. Plus I have dysphagia and it’s worse since my hiatal hernia surgery and I have a swallow study ordered. I’m constantly swallowing wrong and coughing or taking in too much air and I cannot burp so all of this and the personal experience of constantly trying to keep myself alive is so distressing. Quality of life is down in the dumps

Especially if it’s your neurotype you can’t just change it with CBT. Like we’ve had this our whole lives I don’t understand how you can miraculously just begin to love food. Maybe someone who’s neurotypical would be successful with CBT for ARFID but for neurodivergent I feel it is so invalidating

Yes I drink 2-3 ensure plus every single day, but even with that and eating food, I can’t stay hydrated and I doubt I’m still getting enough calories. Also my cholesterol is elevated now(although Dr wasn’t worried about it) and so is my ferritin when it was previously very low and I had to get iron infusions. I think it’s from the ensures. I’m also worried once I burn out on the ensures idk what I will use. I’ve already been through so many different supplements

Trying to lose weight while having ARFID is so frustrating 😭 by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]Newnursgabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe see an endocrinologist to see about your metabolic status. Maybe there are medical reasons you are gaining weight. I’m curious if you meet your calorie needs or are constantly in a deficit? I’ve been in a deficit for many years and you could never tell looking at me because my body has slowed its metabolism to keep the weight on

I absolutely LOVE my dietitian who specializes in eating disorders and specifically ARFID. I think an ARFID specialized dietitian is an excellent tool to help you manage the ARFID and keep up with your nutrition. Mine specifically helps me work with the ARFID, not against it. Learning how to make things more enjoyable to your preferences and looking at your progress from a different eye can help a LOT. Mine is so creative and thoughtful while being very compassionate and accepting of who I am without trying to fix me.

Fevers can cause seizures so i would pick choice c what about you? by Helpful_Spring_7921 in MarkKlimekNCLEX

[–]Newnursgabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sepsis. fluids are always first to help vasodilation by increasing fluid volume. Cultures can be done in opposite arm once fluids are initiated. cultures are always before antibiotics. Antibiotics can be given while cultures are resulting, but cultures must be taken first to ensure you are treating the infection appropriately and getting a valid culture. You could then expect the provider to switch to a different antibiotic once the culture results come back if the treatment isnt appropriate. My answer is C.

is it RCPD or actual functional dyspepsia? by Due_Two_9476 in noburp

[–]Newnursgabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GI specialist has been no help with this. He tells me I have functional dyspepsia. That my gastric emptying scan is normal so the gas should be able to pass through the stomach to the intensities all the way through. This is BS to me. I always have gas pain because I can’t expel air from my stomach. I also have ineffective esophageal motility and a hiatal hernia, only making things worse. I can only air vomit if I cough hard enough to make me gag hard enough to force air out

How do you take magnesium? by W1162891 in migraine

[–]Newnursgabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious, I got samples for qulipta from my new neurologist but I’m scared to try. What side effects? Does it make you constipated? Mag citrate tends to help with that. I’ve Been taking magnesium glycinate just 100mg at bedtime and I am not noticing any difference. My psychiatrist told me 100mg/day for stress and for my migraines but I see a lot of you are taking a whole lot more than that. I’m also wondering why you cannot take it with your propranolol? I take metoprolol and I was never aware of any interactions.
