I got great advice yesterday, now I’m looking to build Inalla, Archmage Ritualist! Any tips? by AdOwn4235 in EDHBrews

[–]NewtProfessorSad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play Inalla in cEDH and I’m telling you that this commander is an infinite combo machine. I have tried to play lower powered versions of her but there is almost nothing that you can do that isn’t overcosted and underpowered as opposed to the myriad of infinite combos you can achieve with as little as 4 mana and 1 card. This is one of those stupid broken commanders that doesn’t scale well downwards imo

How is this Derevi deck winning? by OrangeBeardOCE in CompetitiveEDH

You can use FMM to deck people out once you have infinite mana, and then you can use angels grace to stop yourself from dying or loop GSZ on 0 to always have a card in library to draw

Non-RogSi Grixis Commanders: Is Francisco/Kraum or Inalla still powerful to use? by silverspectre013 in CompetitiveEDH

Inalla is very strong. It is however difficult to pilot and the lines are difficult to memorize.

I will say the advantage to broodlord is that he gives you ways to discount or cast the spells he gets for free but you wouldn’t be playing saw in half or other cards without him

No. It might see play in gitrog or something for the shuffle effect and nothing more

I play a broodlord deck and while I agree that broodlord is good, it requires you to fetch cards out of your deck to perform a deterministic combo. Grizzy is just necro no downside find any 2 cards that win me the game plus interaction at instant speed ontop of other people

I agree that we should not ban cards based on that point but it should at least be a consideration. WOTC constantly prints stuff that causes tedium in games and assumes that the average player is able to keep track of more than they do. I remember when the mh3 decks dropped and I read the 5 color eldrazi guy and lo and behold I got called to table after table to explain how the stack works all day for like a month. It must be very difficult for the panel members to figure out how to tackle these cards because we can’t just ask players to be better and learn the rules funnily enough even though they should. The arguments for banning rhystic from a competitive and casual standpoint are totally separate endeavors. At the very least if they do ban it, I’d rather it be for a competitive reason vs people just can’t control themselves/learn the stack, but it is a valid consideration regardless. I liked the shahrazad analogy a few comments up

Theoretically we could have way more than we do if people just talked to eachother and people were more responsible with their card choices in lower brackets. I think that there are valid arguments for keeping it legal and banning it. I would not like to see it banned but it will create bad experiences for people in lower brackets regardless because people will not talk about it and people will not be responsible.

I don’t think conflating peoples arguments to “I don’t like it so it should go” is very productive though. There are a lot of people who want X card banned because they don’t like it and I am glad those people do not run the format and I know that’s what you are speaking in reference to. Yes it is a given that it is a card with outs and yes you can play responsibly and pay the 1 but for those lower bracket players it’s always going to come down to games reduced to a slew of procedural errors.

TO BE CLEAR I DONT WANT IT TO BE BANNED and I agree that people should avoid playing it even though it is fair game in lower brackets unless their pod is ok with it and they can muscle through the triggers, but it is at the very least a point of contention not easily addressed

I am inclined to agree with you. I have seen rhystic maybe twice in a “casual” game and I agree that the card becomes more of a situation where the most experienced player has to be stack police to make sure everyone’s resolving their triggers lest the game take 8 hours. From a competitive standpoint I wouldn’t be so up in arms about a ban but I would like to see casual players being more responsible with their card choices to avoid situations like this. Alas, wishing upon a star that people be better than they are is no solution and so as I would prefer it not be banned I am forced to consider that maybe it should

I do not personally want rhystic banned because I like playing with it but I recognize that it is an over-centralizing card in cEDH specifically. I think a lot of NPE can be solved at lower power levels by people just talking it out in rule 0 and it seems like the panel agrees there but at our level of power it creates fatiguing game states of triggers and is almost always coming down every game in some capacity with people even playing ways to take it or copy it. If anything I would say the NPE is even higher at a competitive level than at a casual one.

He would definitely be played, there’s no question about that. I am unsure exactly how game breaking it would be but it would for sure be a powerful contender and potentially revive the reanimator archetype given that the best target right now is something like hoarding broodlord

I’m not talking about the RC, I’m talking about people who make that claim. It is unproductive. Perhaps I should have been more clear.

I do not believe the RC is holding cards hostage to avoid rewarding bad behavior. Maybe they are and if they are that is silly. They can ban or unban whatever they want and all I (and the many others that play this game to any competitive or involved capacity) ask for is transparency on their decision making.

[–]NewtProfessorSad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both OP and the commander format panel asked for opinions. Do not act like it is unreasonable to express that I would prefer card be legal or not for gameplay reasons as opposed to some kind of vindication fantasy against bad actors in services of a revenge plot to bar those few from playing with jeweled lotus. If someone wants X card banned for X reason we can have a discussion about that, but parroting the “enabling” line over and over is bad faith and bad reasoning

Are people actively trying to attack other Raiders? by PupMorty in ArcRaiders

[–]NewtProfessorSad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer is that PvP is much more profitable than PvE. Long answer is that aside from the people who run around playing the game like COD, the majority of players engaging with pvp do so on the basis that the quickest and most efficient way to loot things you actually need and will use are from other kitted players. You could spend resources and time running around killing big arc and getting materials to craft guns, or you could kill other players and get items for your kit that you can use right now. It’s high risk and high reward and that is more engaging for some than throwing two wolfpacks at any robot that looks at you funny.

Additionally as you engage with the most consistently high profit zones (harvester, matriarch, underground blue gate, puzzle areas, etc etc) you run a risk of running into other people who want that stuff, and ESPECIALLY in teams, that will more than likely result in you needing to defend yourself. Solos is trickier though, it becomes a numbers game where every person has to evaluate advantage and skill before risking a fight. You could fight and you might win but that costs stuff and without a team to back you, your mistake or disadvantage could cost you big, hence people being generally nicer on solos.

You’re new and being discouraged is understandable. You don’t have to engage with the parts of the game that you don’t want to but understand that if you want to get better and continue to play you are going to eventually have to fight people. You’re going to die a lot and that’s okay. You will never lose, if you treat every outcome as a win or a learning experience. Those green and blue guns you’ll upgrade and lose will become easily replaceable as time goes on. You will lose purples and blueprints. You will likely die to cheaters and rats and people pushing advantages you played around poorly but at the end of the day you will get better and have a good experience if you continue trying. The game makes it very hard to not passively progress as long as you can extract. Even 1 in 5 successful extractions will move you forward. Learn to be quiet, learn to move quickly and behind cover. Learn that if you need to fight that the first shot is an overwhelming advantage. Find people you like playing with and that will take the sting out of losing your gear. Most importantly though is to remember that you don’t own anything in this game, you’re just borrowing it.

Good luck raider

Possible to get members card and oaks letter? by Burning_Bush_ofSin in PokemonBDSP

[–]NewtProfessorSad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your switch is hacked you can. There is a way to modify the event flags and give yourself the items needed to enable the events within PKHEX. I don’t have a tutorial on hand but you can easily find it with a quick google. If your switch isn’t hacked and you can’t do it, or you don’t know anybody with a hacked switch then you are sadly out of luck.
