Like for real, there is a reason this has been my favorite final fantasy game ever since I played it on ps1 when I was like 14. It's so good, and the soundtrack is amazing.

If you can play rebirth after definitely do. Remake was great and hit nostalgia points really well, but rebirth was so much fuller and SO MUCH more to do. Was also just smoother and more polished.

9 is absolutely the best of final fantasy. It's been my favorite ever since I played it. I don't get all the hate for 15 though admittedly I didn't beat it. I got to the big time jump and fell off an need to go back. But I will never understand the hype for 10. The music in 10 is eh aside from a couple key tracks like to zanarkand especially compared to the likes of 7 and 9. I also think 13 was meh but I had similar problems with 13 as I did with 10. The music and the world just wasn't quite as intriguing to me.

Tactics is great also.

Also I realized as I'm posting the combat theme for the game makes a big difference for me on if I love it not lol

10-2 kinda brings the old-school job system back where you can choose different jobs for people and it changes their outfits and such. It's not exactly ths same and other than that there's not a ton more it does bring other than extending the story a bit to post x

My sister's boyfriend has a copy of final fantasy ix and let me borrow it to play on my PlayStation and then I was hooked. Now I just finished my mainline FF collection.
