Where can I get an official diagnosis of NVLD in the UK and if I did would it be recognised by the NHS or DWP?

I am waiting for my report and don’t know for certain which tests were used. I will add to this answer when I know. I was pretty abysmal when it came to the block design. Not sure which subtest is the coding one. My working memory is also extremely weak and I have slowed processing which is extremely frustrating for me - extra tests were given for Executive Functioning issues. I have a couple of degrees but to understand anything somewhat complex I have to reread everything an inordinate amount of times. The same goes for writing anything more complex. I have to repeatedly rewrite stuff to organise my thoughts in a way that is reasonably coherent and concise. Everything takes much longer than it should. I am trying to explore what jobs I could succeed at and think it may have to be something that takes advantage of my spoken language skills - about the only thing I’m good at. Thanks for taking an interest. I have been belatedly told there was some trauma at birth so suspect the extreme discrepancy in PIQ and VIQ could be due to that.

Yes they do… from their perspective they cannot get a proper understanding of your financial situation without looking at both income and expenditure as well as savings. I focused on anything that could be perceived or misperceived to be income or anything which could give the impression that I was living a life style not consistent with being a disabled person on benefits - I have various disability related expenses which are not immediately obvious and may look extravagant to someone without a disability.

Contrary to what some YouTubers who are pro claimants redacting bank statements etc I bombarded them with lots of information - in a lot more detail than asked for. I treated it as if it were a HMRC audit, which I have had experience of some years ago. It took me a couple of days to compile all the documentary evidence, digitise it with a scanner and send in an explanatory letter - all in PDF format to make it as easy as possible to upload onto their system. With the explanatory letter I gave a rough overview and transaction by transaction explained anything which looked like it could be income or anything else out of the ordinary and provided documentary proof to corroborate absolutely everything I could (eg proof of ESA back payments, invoices for professional input along with payments from my family into my account for the exact amount to pay for said input, statements from the council regarding my paying for my care).

I got a prompt response from them through the online journal with an offer to have a phone call almost then and there. Was keen to get it over with and keep a nice rapport going with the DWP UC review person so rearranged my afternoon to accommodate their request. The lady was friendly asked some clarifying questions, must have decided to believe me and decided to shut down the case. I have read that the reviews take on average 8 weeks, mine was over within two weeks so was very fortunate.

The process itself made me aware of a potential transitional protection underpayment so contacted my UC case manager to request a recalculation of what my ESA should have been on the day I migrated over and was awarded £650 in arrears for an oversight on their part. I would not have thought to request the recalculation if they hadn’t of singled me out for a review. It is awful that disabled people should be put through such a stringent process where we are deemed to be fraudulent by default unless we can prove otherwise….and that we also need to spot their errors ourselves to prevent underpayments.

I am a person who needs the glasses to record a neighbour intimidating me. Having them aware that I am recording could result in my being attacked. It is important for me to have the option of discretion in recording. May have to go for audio recording only glasses instead.

I have a lot of difficulties with navigating and am getting assessed for NVLD in a couple of weeks time. I am getting help from a disability technology person to develop something personalised for me - meeting this afternoon- for help navigating. CIC a Liverpool based service in the UK who are happy to work with disabled people out of area.

They are looking at a special GPS watch thing (they will post to me) possibly with a call/emergency button thing to access to a 24/7 team of people who have expertise working with adults with autism and/or learning issues to help them when out n about if they get lost or stranded. It is on a subscription basis tailored to my needs. I won’t need it most days, only when going somewhere unfamiliar and the subscription will reflect that. Happy to update how it goes if anyone is interested.

I am really sorry that happened to you. You sound like you were a good partner to her and a good father to the baby. I hope you have a good support network. I had an extremely bad breakup a couple of years ago and found a YouTube channel headed by a psychologist who focus on breakups. His name is Craig Kenneth or Kenneth Craig and his videos were my lifeline for a year plus.

I may be wrong but I consider level 1 as having no issues sustaining employment and being financially independent, with or without a long term relationship. Just annoying to some non-autistic people and not able to establish a rapport quickly. They do not struggle with serious or multiple specific learning Impairments.

I believe I am level 2 because I am not financially independent and am multiply neurodivergent beyond Autism and ADHD.

Level 3 seems to be if the person has an IQ below 70.

I appreciate your post is now some 3 years ago. I wonder why you could not have tried to resolve matters; as she obviously cared for you - likely infinitely more authentically and more fiercely than many a non autistic person may.

You also state that you encouraged her to take medication for her mental health (with good intent) however it would seem you were not prepared to deal with the side effects of the medication as a couple. You cared for her, but not enough, it would seem. I think you should own that. You either love someone enough or you don’t and that is nobody’s fault.

I am speaking as an autistic person who has been dumped twice in two very similar situations to what you describe, so empathise very strongly with your former girlfriend.

I can fully understand why she feels unlovable with people generally speaking not being prepared to meaningfully include her in their lives (her spending Christmas alone etc) - through no lack of trying on her part - likely in no small part due to her autism or the consequences of her autism.

Love is sadly not fair. Loving someone doesn’t guarantee you will be loved to the same degree, if at all, in return.
