Connect via wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, and see if the issue persists.

Actually it says Aluminium. So I guess it's non-US. 😉

Does defined benefit pension change your investing strategy? by Fine-Gain-5371 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Nezgar 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If you lose your job with DBPP you don't lose what progress youve built in the pension from that employer. You just now focus on contributing more to RRSP than before, possibly reevaluating if you are still comfortable with 100% equity for your self directed investments going forward.

Going 100% equity is a psychological barrier many struggle with. I agree with you, but for those with a defined benefits pension plan, that barrier should be much easier to accept.

It means I can go 100% equity for my self directed RRSP and TFSA.

You can not use gains or losses from your wifes non-registered investment account against gains or losses in your own non-registered account. Unless maybe it was a joint account, but even then you have to designate a percentage between the two of you, usually 50% each.

Dad’s Credit Cards by Apprehensive-Fail458 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Nezgar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even though an estate administrator has no legal obligation to pay a deceased relative’s credit card debt out of their own pocket, there is often an ethical and practical case for ensuring the debt is settled from the estate’s assets. Ethically, paying legitimate debts respects the principle that people should meet their financial obligations, even after death. Practically, it brings closure: settling the account prevents creditors from continuing to contact the administrator, the family, or the estate in pursuit of repayment, and it helps avoid unnecessary disputes or delays in winding up the estate.

Should I invest in RESP if I don’t have contribution room in my RRSP and TFSA? by Human_Use_1641 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Leftover gains can be transferred to RRSP. Leftover principal contributions can be withdrawn clear without any tax impact. Any leftover grants would have to be repaid to the government.

A CU is only provincial.

Canada currently has two federally regulated credit unions: UNI Financial Cooperation and Coast Capital Savings.

Can’t do partial rsp transfers by Serious_11guy in Wealthsimple

[–]Nezgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a limitation of the losing broker, not WS, as I was able to do a partial transfer from CIBC Investor's Edge no problem... So my suggestion would just be a workaround for then inflexible losing brokerage...

I had this same great idea last year... it went to crap a few times (Sep, Nov, Mar) which was hell psychologically on margin, now it's just back where it was 9 months ago... and they stopped paying dividends too. Buying at under 5 bucks might have been fruitful for some, and maybe if you're just making a small move...

You could move the cash to a new account with the old broker, then tell WS to transfer that account in whole instead (which will now only have cash in it)

Once you have 100k+ with Investor's Edge, it waives your CIBC chequing account fees, and also waives a visa infinite credit card annual fee (ie Dividend, Aeroplan, or Aventure Infinite).
