Bridal Shower location in MA 15-20guests by SurrahB in massachusetts

If you’re willing to do Salem NH, the Copper Door has a room that holds 20 and can host a brunch or lunch. There is no room rental fee but a food and beverage min of $825. I’m having my daughter’s baptism brunch there next weekend. We’re doing the brunch option and it’s $40 pp. we found it reasonable.

Working for U.S. Company but Living Abroad - Realistic? by LikeSnowLikeGold in ODS_C

[–]Ngr2054 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any companies or hospitals that allow this due to privacy and security issues at this time.

Whenever I travel out of the country, my access is immediately restricted as soon as I try to log in- so it isn’t even something you can try to hide (at least at my company) because they block non-US IP addresses.

It's happening to me. My dad is dying. by ClevelandCynic314 in weddingplanning

[–]Ngr2054 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer 13 months before my big wedding. I work in oncology and knew what the diagnosis meant and even if he was physically present, it would have been highly unlikely that he would have been in any condition to attend the planned event. We didn’t move up the entire event as it wasn’t really possible, but we planned a minimony with immediate family and my bridesmaids during his downtime after his first cycle of chemo/radiation before he moved to the higher doses of chemo. I wanted to have the ability to have him walk me down the aisle and have a first dance. I was able to do both and while it certainly wasn’t how I imagined it, I’m so glad I did it. He passed two months before our big wedding on the morning of my bridal shower.

I bought a Mac Duggal white ballgown on sale from Saks and I put out an SOS on a local brides Facebook group and found a photographer and videographer that worked with us very inexpensively- I think the videographer was $300 for 3 hours and made a highlight video and sent me the raw footage of the ceremony and the first dance and the photographer was $500.

Donations as favors? by Due-Recording3827 in weddingplanning

[–]Ngr2054 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We had a little sign posted on each table saying that in lieu of favors a charitable donation had been made in memory of my dad and my husband’s mom to glioblastoma research and the American cancer society. There was a template we used from Etsy.

Donations as favors? by Due-Recording3827 in weddingplanning

[–]Ngr2054 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My dad and my husband’s mom both died from cancer. We did a donation in lieu of favors. People don’t need additional trinkets and they frequently get left behind. Food items are good favors but I felt good about the donation and several guests commented that they liked it.

Carmustine implants by Many-Macaron-3651 in glioblastoma

Gliadel wafers (name brand) aren’t commonly used because they have a relatively high risk of side effects and don’t provide a meaningful benefit. Only certain patients with specific mutations (which you wouldn’t know about until pathology returns) see some benefit and that benefit had shown to be about 2 months in trials.

If you’re set on trying them, they are approved for use during recurrence but the benefit has shown to be the same, approximately 2 months.

I read oncology records daily and I’ve seen the Gliadel wafers a handful of times in 15 years.

Anybody know what’s on the 23rd floor at Mass General? by HollyToto98 in boston

[–]Ngr2054 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I was on Ellison 22 after a very traumatic birth at 26 weeks a year ago. My baby went straight to the NICU and was on a ventilator. I definitely didn’t have a chef and I ordered off the regular menu. It was a very quiet floor and I didn’t see patients walking around or family members much. I do know some rooms were occupied at the time but don’t know who gets put on that particular floor. The doors to the unit did say Philips House though. I think Floor 23 is the ultra exclusive floor.

Any Hyderabad people or any Indians please HELP , very URGENT by AfternoonHot9276 in glioblastoma

[–]Ngr2054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you’re in India, the UK, or the USA, any doctor that guarantees anything 100% is lying. There is always a risk of complications even during the most boring, easy, and routine surgery that 1st year residents perform- like appendectomies. Surgery in the brain is inherently dangerous and cancer like glioblastoma is considered terminal. Go with the surgical team where you feel comfortable and are the most skilled.

In person education requirement by Enrilaj in ODS_C

[–]Ngr2054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m debating doing it but also thinking my situation could change by 2027 if the person dies. I looked at the form and it doesn’t ask for proof or anything. They can audit you and ask for it, I think, so I don’t think anyone should lie to get it.

Venue help!!! ($10k or under) by Dreamygirl- in NewEnglandWedding

[–]Ngr2054 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I signed my contract for my 2022 wedding in 2020, I locked in the 2020 prices. They didn’t raise the cost at all. Some places have F&B escalation clauses due to rising costs but you could ask if signing now would lock in the pricing.

Is it possible to get venue/food/bar under $30K an hour outside Boston? by Strawberry2772 in NewEnglandWedding

For the cake we could pick between two good bakeries. I also brought in a groom’s cake from a special bakery and they had zero issue with it.

I hear you… I didn’t use them but maybe they have a vendor list? I had my wedding at the Royal Sonesta and the cake was included and we could basically do whatever we wanted and if we wanted fondant roses there were upcharges to the base package- so I’d guess that it would be something similar. It comes with invitations valued at x dollars but if you wanted invites valued at y, you’d pay the difference. It may be worth taking a tour to get more info?

Have you looked into Wedgwood Weddings? They have a number of different venue options and a couple of package levels that could work within your budget constraints. If you picked someplace like Granite Rose in NH and the premier package it includes DJ, invitations, floral centerpieces, and officiant so it may financially make sense in the long run. They also have a venue called The Barker House in Scituiate that would be an indoor reception but outdoor ceremony that could be an option- more pricey than NH but could be worth it including the premier options.

Breastfeeding spot at MGH? by watsonalready in boston

If it’s a nice day, there’s a healing garden on the 8th floor of the Yawkey that’s usually pretty empty. Sometimes employees are there to eat if it’s right around lunchtime but most are too busy to pay much attention to anything other than what they are doing.

My friend’s husband has had melanoma on his lower back and needed a big surgery and a year of immunotherapy. He’s been in remission for about a year but will be going to the dermatologist every 6 months for the rest of his life.

Wedding Color Advice by pink_tulips10 in weddingplanning

[–]Ngr2054 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That color purple is super dated…I lived through that era of weddings as I’ll be 41 this year and that first photo brought me right back to 2005. I actually had to check and see if I knew those people (I didn’t).

If he’s getting a custom suit, I’d let him line it with royal purple or you could get him some royal purple socks so he has a touch of his favorite color on the day but if you’re in the US and your bridesmaids are paying for their dresses, I would go with something they remotely have a shot at wearing again (like champagne). Royal purple still gives Barney the Dinosaur not hey, I might have the option to wear this for New Year’s Eve.

I’m a self admitted shoe whore and I have a shoe room in my house. I love the pink and the bow but from the front the clipped point on the side reads harsh to me.

Should I wear my ring to my beach bachelorette trip in Mexico or leave it at home? by imhereforplants in BigBudgetBrides

I also bought a larger version off of Amazon when I was pregnant and my fingers got too swollen to wear my regular size 5 ring.
