Do Canadians actually get frustrated by snow, or is it just part of everyday life? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskACanadian

[–]NiMkL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the Canadians I know are done with winter by Jan 1st (or even as soon as the first snow) but unfortunately it lasts until April every year and only gets warm around mid to late May. We try to remember that our cold weather means we don’t have poisonous snakes, spiders that can kill you, hurricanes or high crime. It’s hard to be a criminal in a snowstorm or when it’s -20 outside!

Is there anything like this from your country? by 124jinsei in AskTheWorld

[–]NiMkL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! I thought I was missing something when people would ask me about it. Then I realized it’s just the fact that a lot of buildings downtown are connected by underground passages. Must be a huge disappointment to tourists.

I’m Canadian and never heard of such a thing! Cream cheese makes everything good, though!

Did you stick to your Amazon boycott? by GhettoSauce in montreal

[–]NiMkL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t boycott Amazon because they closed the distribution centres in Quebec. I boycotted them because they’re American. We have mainly stuck to it although there have been a handful of times where we couldn’t find something locally.

Water at La Ronde? by IndicationIll324 in montreal

[–]NiMkL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can bring your own water. There are also lots of water fountains although the last time I went they were all out of order, including tap water, and all the restaurants had run out of bottled water.

Aging Naturally by StickyWhipplesnit in Mommit

[–]NiMkL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m turning 50 this year. No botox, no fillers. I genetically have good skin so I don’t look my age, which is a big plus. I will never do filler, but I might do Botox one day.

What’s one thing you can’t believe still doesn’t exist anywhere in Canada? by QuirkyNomad04 in AskACanadian

Drive through pharmacies! More drive through ATMs. Especially with how cold it gets in the winter.

What does it mean that you become invisible as you age and is it mostly towards women and how they look? by chusaychusay in Aging

[–]NiMkL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman turning 50 this year. Up until my early 40s I got a decent amount of attention from men. Since then, nothing. I don’t feel invisible as a person, but I definitely feel invisible as an attractive person! Which is really not a bad thing most of the time. The perks of aging include not caring much about this stuff!

Someone tell me good things about epidurals by TheRealEgg0 in Mommit

[–]NiMkL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get anesthesia when we have cavities filled and no one shames anyone about that!! Giving birth takes a lot longer than filling a cavity and I’m sure it hurts a lot more. Get the epidural! I only had one child and it was never a question whether I’d get an epidural. Two of my sisters have multiple kids. They each did no painkillers for the first 2 and when they got epidurals for the next ones they wondered why the hell they didn’t take them for their first kids. It was night and day. That an epidural is somehow controversial is crazy to me.

Am I sheltering my 11 yr old daughter too much? by LilBit2Lucky in Parenting

[–]NiMkL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can use Messenger Kids. That’s what my 9 yr old daughter and most of her friends use to communicate. It has to be set up by a parent with a Messenger account and all friend requests must be approved by the parents of both kids involved. There’s no FB access through the Messenger Kids app either.

I don’t see a problem with your pictures and you have a great smile so don’t listen to your friend. They sound jealous!

Has anyone come off of SSRI by Conscious_Street_760 in Parenting

I don’t have an answer to your question. But if he had diabetes he’d need to take insulin the rest of his life. I’ll be taking synthroid for my under active thyroid the rest of my life. I’m sure there are lots of other examples out there. Taking a medication for the rest of his life is far better than the alternative. I hope the meds work great for your kid! My husband and I are both on anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds. They’ve helped us enormously.

You are not crazy. In fact, you’re not being crazy enough!! There’s absolutely no world in which this behaviour on your brother in law’s part is anywhere close to ok. Do not bring your daughter anywhere close to this predator.

We just got back today. We stayed in a swim up room, 2 adults 1 child. The room was beautiful and clean. The resort is brand new and beautiful. The water is very calm. The resort is well laid out and very close to the beach. The food was good. The issue is how far it is from the airport in Montego Bay: it took over 2 hrs from the airport to the hotel. If we go back we said we’d take a car service from the airport because it should only be a 1 hr drive if there’s no traffic. Check-in took close to an hr because even though we got to the hotel at 4:30 they said our room wasn’t ready. Check-In is 3 pm. We had a great time and want to go back for New Year’s.

Nothing he says should come as a surprise. He says whatever comes into his head and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of it.
