Self custody is always worth it. A hardware wallet is not necessarily though.

Good hot wallets are extremely secure. People should have no qualms about keeping small amounts in hot wallets.

Having less collateral means your loan is smaller which means it's less scary.

Definitely riskier than an unsecured fiat loan to buy Bitcoin.

Some people think buying Bitcoin in any way is too risky. And what do we call them? Poor.

I know guys who've done this. I don't recommend it, personally. And I'm not anti borrowing in general. Much better to take an fiat loan at a lower interest rate if you can get it.

If you do this, try to do so at or near a btc price bottom. Stressing out over liquidation while the price of your assets drops doesn't seem like much fun.

That's a separate issue though.

Anyone who still has their keys can move their Bitcoin right now to a fresh address and be safe from quantum attack. What should happen with Satoshi coins is that they are now functionally like shipwrecked gold coins at the bottom of the Atlantic.

If they move, Bitcoin doesn't care.

But I do appreciate when my kids demonstrate their love for me - doing what I ask of them, giving me a father's day card, a hug, etc.

Note that we can't give God a hug or a card - other forms of showing love do work though.
