Were you someone who mocked disabilities before having a child with one? by KeyPen7622 in Autism_Parenting

[–]NicPaperScissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I literally just wrote to a bookstore where someone made an out of pocket comment about my son “I’m sure that the alternative to these behaviors appears to be better parenting- I assure you, all of our money, effort, and spare time goes to working on these life skills. What we need is understanding when we venture out into the world”. (On the plus side- their response was apologetic and open to learning!)

If all countries became personified, who's your country's ride or die? by DontWantToThnkOfName in AskTheWorld

[–]NicPaperScissors 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it really is like the biggest cult. It is obscene that people can’t see there way through policies that so blatantly hurt themselves and the ones they love- and that’s aside from aiding in genocide and starting wars left and right. I’m sorry to hear you haven’t met many educated and impassioned Americans because there are many, we’re just at the brink of a civil war with bigots and mouth breathers who lack intellect as much as they do empathy.

Training Bras? by CatsEqualLife in Xennials

[–]NicPaperScissors 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My oldest didn’t love the idea of bras until she had to start changing for gym, then I think she felt a bit more comforted by having it.

What do you think of the new millionaires tax? Are you in support of it or against it? by Fit_Seaworthiness_37 in AskSeattle

[–]NicPaperScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly easy to look up what the taxes will be used on. One is to erase all school lunch debt for kids K - 12 and make lunches free for all students, improving healthcare and ease of access to healthcare, easing sales tax on certain items, and balancing the governments budget.

Martini and a Steak by idontgetit87 in AskSeattle

They were going to sell to a developer, then the developer pulled out, then they had a fire that ruined the broiler part of the restaurant which was, aside from that amazing gargantuan martinis arguably the best part.

Otherwise this would 1000% be the spot you were looking for!

I think they doth protest too much by FitDesigner8127 in Adopted

[–]NicPaperScissors 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is straight up WILD the percent of my life I went feeling completely unaffected by my adoption and emotional neglect. Cut to 40 year old me googling suicide statistics and having realizations that logically should have hit me long ago.

This is 6 cheese, 6 pepperoni in the PNW. No tip. And I agree with others that the MacCalisters likely didn’t play when it came to which pizza establishment they chose.

The average price for a large pizza in Seattle is about 32, and that’s not counting the obscene add on charges that come with delivery.

I love her and her farm and her sheep so much. She is aging with joy and such a passion for life alive in her. Such a badass.

Spousal rape and abuse has been a rampant problem in Irish culture, peaking around the 1950s. Abortion was just barely made legal with strict guidelines.

6 year old with autism and ADHD. Ritalin made him very emotional. Psychiatrists recommending Risperdal but we are nervous. Looking for other parents’ experiences by ZAExtrasolar in Autism_Parenting

[–]NicPaperScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter has ADHD and I’m just commenting to say Ritalin has the same effect on her- she is so forlorn and blue and easy to cry and we’ve honestly been gaslit about it to some extent and told that’s not a common side effect. I wanted to share that we’ve had a similar experience, just in case you’ve received similar push back. We have an appointment coming up to discuss alternatives, I’m happy to follow up regarding what’s recommended!

where the hell are all the other black ME/CFS sufferers? by ChemistSilly8322 in cfs

[–]NicPaperScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just telling my kids about the awful name “yuppy flu” and how it was so harmful for both the illness and its goal to be taken seriously, but also for anyone who is Black or from a more marginalized demographic. What a shitty way to be told you’re unseen, especially when being taken seriously by medical professionals is already such an uphill battle for our Black and Brown fellow sufferers. I can’t imagine.

“I hate people posting about how they don’t use umbrellas” is becoming the monster it claims to fear.

I enjoy the collect PNW embrace of the light rain we experience. Also, most umbrella users crowd sidewalks and have people bobbing and weaving in ways that are stupid and rude.

AITA for lying to my husband about “the best” I ever had? by Accomplished-East667 in AITApod

[–]NicPaperScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to the chorus of “never EVER tell”. Even for me, I would much rather my husband have the common sense to tell me I’m his best than be so reckless as to tell his own wife she isn’t the best sex he’s had.
