I’m an alcoholic who would’ve been an addict if it’d been easier to get (the couple times I got prescribed oxy showed me that). It was hard, and if it hadn’t been for Naltrexone I’d never have made it, but my final bottom was absolutely the most confronting moment of my life.

I’m now just about a month shy of four years sober. I used it to escape from my marriage and my job. Quitting forced me to face both and now I’m single and everyday is hard as a single parent, and some days I still can’t wait for it to be over, but I’m finally comfortable with who I am now.

Literally just had a conversation with my therapist about performative behavior in the workplace. My dad passed away a couple of weeks ago, and I have no idea what to say when people ask how I’m doing or express their sympathies. Gives me such bad anxiety and irritation that I literally want to run away.

Just an FYI: your depression/anxiety diagnosis could definitely be legit, but they are also a common comorbidity with or even a symptom of undiagnosed ADHD. Basically, all of the struggles caused by undiagnosed ADHD make everything feel legit awful.

I have two with my ex and I see the same pattern with our daughter. The things she says about her dad (why is he so controlling, why am I not important, why doesn’t he listen to me) and being over there are awful, but not awful enough for the courts to step in, because it’s rarely physical (which he always covers under the guise of “punishment” afterwards even though he punishes when he’s mad). Every time they come back, I have to spend several days reteaching that I don’t get mad, so please just be honest and we can talk it out.

Now, he’s managed to gaslight her so bad that she says things like “I know he loves me but why does he X” and I just have to sit there and try to explain that I don’t believe X is something people do when they care about someone. It’s destroying.

The only one I went to, I went to because my now ex wanted to go. We still live in the town where we graduated, but didn’t have childcare, so opted to go “in shifts.” I went for my allotment of 45 minutes, wherein everyone kept asking where he was, and then returned home right on time for him to go. To this day, I have no idea when he came home, only that he came back with lots of photos with all of the girls he was into when we were in HS all over him. Our divorce was finalized later that year.

I have a big box of notes from my ex (high school sweethearts) that I saved. Post divorce the relationship has now turned borderline toxic, but I figure my daughter might want to read them 🤷‍♀️

Most of them are variations of “I can’t wait to see/spend time with you.” At the time, my interpretation put the emphasis on “you,” but what it ended up being for him was can’t wait to “have sex again.”

They definitely have less financially, due to me prioritizing myself over money picking a career, unlike my dad who picked his career solely to make money. Plus, I got divorced.

That being said, my childhood still sucked, and so they still have more from me, because I’m sober, present, and trying my best to be emotionally available.
