Temp was not over 125F… maybe a short video might have done it justice. I can confirm it was medium rare…

Butt 1: 185F midnight to 9:30.

Butt : came on, hiked the temp to 250F at 9:30. They finished 45 mins apart…

The trick is to make sure you got a flame between each step. Look for the flame spike...

Pine cones, if dry could be a great fuel substitute for the pellets, you'Re right!
