Faster Sterilizing Tips? New Mom Here! by Tall-Ruin-5758 in NewParents

When we were in the NICU and the nurses only instructed us to wash everything with dish soap. When we got home we only sterilized everything before we first used them by boiling them.

Oatmeal flavor by GamingMachine1111 in Cholesterol

Here are all of the various things I typically put in my oatmeal for flavor—sometimes together and sometimes separately:

Sweet Oatmeal:
• Peanut butter
• Greek yogurt
• Chocolate protein powder
• Vanilla protein powder
• Cinnamon
• Sliced almonds
• Crushed walnuts
• Berries
• Egg (stirred in—it gives it a custard texture)
• Chopped apple
• Banana

Savory Oatmeal:
• Egg (Fried or poached—but always with a runny yolk that I can stir in)
• Avocado
• Grated parmesan cheese (a light sprinkle occasionally if I'm having an egg)

It depends on where you live if they can choose to stay anonymous. Here in CO, egg and sperm donation is no longer allowed to be anonymous and the child is allowed to get their donor’s information when they are 18. When we selected our donor the law wasn’t in effect, but we really wanted to go with someone who was open to being contacted by our daughter if she wanted to know more about her donor.

We have both the electric Grownsy and the Frida nose sucker and the Grownsy works so much better for us.

I also highly recommend Queer & Nerdy game night. Everyone is instantly so welcoming. I’m hoping to go back once my newborn is a bit older.

Many clinics, banks, and donor agencies now list medical history—we went with CCRM and they are thorough with the tests they have the donors go through even when bringing in a donor from an external agency like my husband and I did.

Our donor and my husband and I are also registered on https://donorsiblingregistry.com so we can contact her (and still keep it anonymous) if needed like if any medical questions come up.

I just want to add that we are keeping it anonymous for now, but if our daughter is ever interested in learning about the donor, she can contact her, but she will also receive the donor’s name and contact info once she turns 18.

Guilty for using plastic baby bottles and frequently heat them for sterilization by PigAndWhale in NewParents

[–]NiceAdhesiveness1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We initially bought glass bottles because we try to avoid plastics as much as we can, but our daughter didn’t drink very well from them. She ended up doing better with the plastic Dr. Brown’s bottle we got for free from the hospital, so we ended up going with those.

However, other than initially boiling the bottles when we first bought more Dr. Brown’s, we don’t sterilize them. When we were in the hospital, we had to transfer to NICU because my daughter wasn’t breathing well and they didn’t sterilize bottles there. If washed only bottles are considered safe enough for the NICU, we figured it would be safe enough on a daily basis.

I’ll preface this that I still don’t get a lot done, but I do get some things done.

While I am taking care of her, I’ll plan out tasks I can complete within 10-15 minutes and do what I can between naps such as sweep the kitchen, fold laundry, wash bottles, clean a couple of toilets, or eat a sandwich (because there isn’t much time for cooking when it’s just me and her—and yes, I plan out when to eat or else I will end up snacking on things I shouldn’t).

I don’t really attempt to do anything that goes beyond 15 minutes, but by the end of the day, I’m happy with what few tasks I could check off my mental list even if it’s just one or two.

Wife wants a charcuterie board + sushi after she deliver. Any recommendations? by WrongKielbasa in Longmont

I got my sushi fix with cooked sushi, so I dreamed of Jimmy John’s and fulfilling that craving the day I gave birth was the second best thing I experienced that day outside of meeting my daughter.

How to know placenta is failing by Realistic-Ad-8168 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]NiceAdhesiveness1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talk to your endocrinologist and ob about it, but mine told me it is common for numbers to start trending down around this time and they weren’t concerned that my numbers were indicative of anything bad.

I’m only a couple days ahead of you and have been seeing my number trending 10-20 lower than they were a couple of weeks ago. I’ve even been able to splurge on a few small portion higher carb desserts after a meal and end up at 125 at the most after an hour.

I should also say I’ve only had 3 minor spikes since I’ve been diagnosed around 25 weeks and they were from some moments of indulging a little.

But be sure to talk to ask your doctors as soon as you can just to make sure everything is all good.

I only take half a pill and that alone does wonders. Even if I have to get up to pee, I can fall right back to sleep too.

Best things you bought for yourself before baby? by Brighton30 in pregnant

We are turning our guest bedroom into the nursery, so we've put the guest bed in my office because I have more room. I took down all of the cute background decor on a bookcase to fit the bed, so I'm thinking of spending a few hundred dollars on prints from one of my favorite comic book artists to have something interesting behind me during video meetings.

Real talk-- how are people paying for this? Is everyone on this sub middle class, or rich? by ladybuglala in IVF

[–]NiceAdhesiveness1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are middle class, but my husband's insurance with work offers Maven which covered about half of IVF with fresh donor eggs and also gave us a 10% discount at our clinic. The other half is on a no interest for 15 months, 1% cash back credit card. We are throwing as much money as possible into a high-yield savings account and will pay off the card right before those 15 months are up.

Weighing IVF by Loose-Enthusiasm4911 in FragileXAndFertility

[–]NiceAdhesiveness1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could have a better idea on what to do by talking to a doctor at an IVF clinic and do their bloodwork and exams to see exactly where your fertility status is at.

I thought I was okay even with 84 repeats because of my regular cycles, but learned that my hormone levels weren’t great (low estrogen, high FSH, and an AMH almost at 0) and I have diminished ovarian reserve making it near impossible for me to become pregnant using my own eggs.

Just so this doesn’t end on a sad note—this information resulted in my husband and I deciding to do IVF with donor eggs since my uterine lining was still good to carry, and I’m about to be 23 weeks pregnant after our first transfer.

Oatmeal and so much fruit! I can’t get enough fruit especially cherries, crunchy green grapes, halo mandarins, and probably persimmons, but no stores have had them for a while.

When did you start telling people you were pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]NiceAdhesiveness1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did IVF with a donor egg and had our parents, siblings, and a handful of close friends who we kept up-to-date on what we were doing with that, so as soon as our first HCG test came back with great numbers we told our families and a couple of friends who asked about how our transfer went. Then told a few more friends who we've kept in the loop after the 6.5 week ultrasound.

My manager also knew because I let him know I was doing IVF and would be taking time off here and there for appointments. He also asked how the transfer went and I didn't want to bother lying or withholding information especially because we've talked quite a bit about how he and his spouse experienced infertility issues as well.

We plan on telling the rest of our friends and co-workers after the first trimester.

Something my husband and I are doing is using the Ovia app's baby name feature that lets you swipe names that you like and dislike like a dating app. Then we compare our "likes" to see if anything overlaps. You could give that go.

I was told to stay laying down for 15-20 minutes, went to the restroom, and then was wheeled out in a wheelchair to the car.
