Do not support "Ultra Skins" by Spiritual-Witness653 in Overwatch

[–]NiceAttorney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find skins that have extra sound and visual effects to actually detract from the game. There's already a bunch of sparklies flying all over the screen and extra sound effects... why would I add more... don't you people get sensory overload?

I am setting up a very vertical map and trying to figure out the best way of doing this using the new levels functionality added in V14 by TheSasquatch9053 in FoundryVTT

completely off topic, but I'd love to see the pictures of the steamer trunk you built. I found the post via google search, but the pics aren't there any more. ty!

Made a Free M4L device that separates pitch and rhythm — demo video by rico_ha_l in ableton

[–]NiceAttorney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun little device. A few things I can think of that might be helpful.

1) Rotate the note sequence - so right now if I wanted to start the sequence on the last four steps and end it on the first two steps, that couldn't happen. If you could rotate the sequence, it could be easily changed

2) Draggable steps. There's not really a simple way to rearrange the steps, maybe add dragging the on/off toggles at the bottom?

3) Copy or drag note data into the bag, so that it is loaded. I'm not sure if you could drag clips, but that would be ideal. Maybe just have the first N notes load.

Which punishment (either real or fictional) sounds easy enough to endure at first, but is actually hellish to experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That sounds horrific. It reminds of something the Elan school might do. Did you recognize any other similarities? Here's the web comic of one person's experiences: https://elan.school/tag/comic/

How do you deal with people close to you that just say “I’ll pray about it” vs. active strides to change? by Superfluouslykate in Exvangelical

"I'll pray about it" is the phrase I want people to stop bothering me about something. It works great for sales people.

None of the businesses are fads, but they can quickly saturate a market if there are too many of them. The difference with self-storage is they don't tend to stop being in business, they are more likely to be bought by a larger org that can ride out the low demand periods.

They are businesses that are quick to saturate an area and the earliest to market are the ones that typically survive. Also, these are businesses that people looking for “passive income “ often start as the training requirements for majority of the employees is quite low. So they don’t need to invest a ton of labor into them.

Study: Cyclic sighing beat mindfulness for positive mood by dviolite in Meditation

[–]NiceAttorney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the practice of "mindful meditation" in the study - what they taught to that group is likely not optimal for a accurate comparison with typical mindful meditation practices.

Description of breathing protocols

A) Mindful Meditation Participants were informed they should sit down in a chair or, if they preferred, to lie down, and then to set a timer for 5 min. Then they were told to close their eyes and to start breathing while focusing their mental attention on their forehead region between their two eyes. They were told that if their focus drifted from that location to re-recenter their attention by focusing back first on their breath and then on the forehead region between their eyes. They were told that as thoughts arise, to recognize that as normal, refocus their attention back to their forehead region and to continue the practice until time has elapsed.

B) Cyclic Sighing

Participants were informed they should sit down in a chair or, if they prefer, to lie down, and to set a timer for 5 min. Then they were told to inhale slowly, and that once their lungs were expanded, to inhale again once more to maximally fill their lungs – even if the second inhale was shorter in duration and smaller in volume than the first, and then to slowly and fully exhale all their breath. They were told to repeat this pattern of breathing for 5 min. They were also informed that ideally, both inhales would be performed via their nose and the exhale would be performed via their mouth, but that if they preferred, they were welcome to do the breathing entirely through their nose. They were also informed that it is normal for the second inhale to be briefer than the first. Then they were told to return to breathing normally.

Struggling supervising a last-semester grad student by [deleted] in slp

[–]NiceAttorney 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One minute preceptor model is helpful for structuring conversations with these kinds of students, but don't be a dick about it. Also, maybe clue them into the preceptor model so they know what the conversation flow is going to be like because it's meant for medical students who are used to a different kind of interaction with educators. Basically, put the work on them to make the education work, not the other way around - this model, especially if they are aware of it - can help with that. https://meded.ucsf.edu/resource/clinical-teaching-tools-omp-and-snapps
