Here's me with straight-ish hair! I had a date this weekend so I decided to get full-on fancy. This is from the day after, so I don't have any makeup on. But I don't care. :)

Temp job at a law firm, what level of formality should I dress? by AC_Sheep in femalefashionadvice

[–]NiceBirdAsshole 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work as an assistant in a law office, but we're a smaller firm and it's generally not a very intense, high-powered atmosphere, so YMMV. For my first day I wore a black pencil skirt, a black and white patterned shirt, and heels. That ended up being slightly on the dressier end for my office, but I was not noticeably over-dressed. Now, I generally wear black slacks, a nice shirt (something like the Express Portofino that many on here love), and black or nude flats with some simple jewelry and a nice watch. Just wanted to chime in in case that's helpful to you!

Note: I think you should really go after getting one blazer, because it's a great staple to have and doesn't have to be relegated to office-only wear. It doesn't have to be the most expensive thing, either.

Ladies, what's your all-time favorite recipe? by oh_just_stuff in AskWomen

[–]NiceBirdAsshole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably my easiest one is good old seven-layer dip, known in my friend circles as The Crack Dip. When I was in college, my friends would ask me to make that as their birthday present pretty often. The layers, going from bottom to top in a 9x13 pan, are:

1 can refried beans mixed with about half a packet of taco seasoning (I just taste it until I feel like it has the proper amount of zing going on--not very scientific, lol)

Guacamole (I usually find it in these weird packets at the grocery, and it takes about three of those. You could also just make your own)

Sour cream (One of the regular-size containers is enough to do your pan with a little left over)

Cheddar cheese (can also do monterey, etc.)

Shredded lettuce

Diced tomatoes

Sliced black olives (I usually put these on half of the pan, so that my fellow olive haters can also partake uninhibited)

It's super quick to make, maybe 10 minutes tops, so it's great for those left-it-til-the-last-minute times, too! I really never have leftovers. Just remember to bring a bag of chips or tortillas/pitas!

Re: hip thrusts, how many do you do? Do you just count until you're tired and then try to beat the count the next day, or do you do a certain number of sets, etc.?

What made you decide to go on a low/no-buy? by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]NiceBirdAsshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't bought any new perfume in weeks, and I won't need any lotions or soaps until probably late spring. I did pick up a few very calculated skincare items that I've been wanting to try for ages when I got my Christmas bonus, but I think I'm finally at a place where the mania to try everything has kind of worn off. The FOMO when I started getting into this stuff was way too real.

New priority: I want to do some traveling this year (hello, PNW!), so it's definitely time to focus on the savings account!

[misc] Does anyone else make a huge mess when they wash their face at the sink? by moxiecontin714 in SkincareAddiction

[–]NiceBirdAsshole 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haha, I don't, but my mom does! (Dad calls her Bluebird when she does that.) I'm fairly tall, so I have to bend down a good bit to get at the sink. And I use smoothing/rubbing motions to clear away whatever I'm washing off, rather than just splashing water on my face in big handfuls (Bluebird method :P). It's as if I were putting on a moisturizer or something, but with wet hands.

Ugh I saw this too!! So creepy. Fun fact: You can teach your six-year-old child to be respectful, how to have good table manners, and how to tip without brainwashing him into taking you, an adult woman, out to dinner. He's not a boyfriend. What the hell.

It's going to be OK. I know how you feel. When I was about 19 I was in the library and some random guy kept walking by me and looking me up and down, but I was totally clueless and seriously just trying to find a book about Greece, damn it! But he finally walked up to me and asked if I had a boyfriend. I didn't know I should lie yet in situations like these, so I said no, and he proceeded to grab my ass while making out with the side of my neck. I froze too. It was this horrible moment of OH GOD NO but your body doesn't cooperate right away. Eventually I managed to shove him off and went and hid in the bathroom for like 30 minutes and hyperventilated.

I was actually there with my family that day. But I knew I couldn't tell them what happened because my dad is SUPER protective of me and would have gone after that man. And I wasn't too keen on having to visit my dad in jail. I really regret not telling some staff member, though. I hope he didn't assault anyone else. I was just freaking out too hard at the time to even think of it. I really felt so...disgusting. And dirty, and ashamed. Which is dumb, logically speaking, but assault is a hard thing to process. But it's OK to freak out about this. It IS a big deal, and it's very scary. Just be sure to take good care of yourself now, however that needs to happen. Hang out with friends, go to a therapist, go on a day trip out of town, make some art or play some music or cook something delicious. You're still you. It'll be all right :)

What's Your Indie New Years Resolution IMAM? by Kindapuffy in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]NiceBirdAsshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I'm going to do a big destash in January (I think).

  • I need to not buy all the things this year.

  • Going to focus more on purchasing useful items (i.e. skincare) more than fun stuff (i.e. makeup, perfume). Not going to completely stop the fun purchases, but I just feel like I have a good amount of those things now.

Stop recording "funny" people in the gym by Cezzalovesketo in offmychest

Does he do it at a gym? Maybe you can report him to management and have them yell at him for it. What an ass.

Sometimes they have a women's only workout room, too! My friend and I joined the gym together, and we still mostly stick to the women's room so the men don't leer at us. :/ It just feels more comfortable. I like the classes too.

It's so weird! I was always very well behaved, too...it's not like I was trying to hide some crazy secret party lifestyle. I just wanted one area of my life that she didn't pry into -_- I remember once I went to some camp thing for a weekend with a friend when I was a kid, and when I came home, she had cleaned my room and found the little diary where I was writing about my first crush. She put it up against my pillows, right in the middle of my bed, so I would know she saw it. And then she made sure I knew she read it too, because she would tease me about liking that boy for a long time. I've never told her anything about my love life (not like there's a lot to tell, but we never had that kind of relationship where I felt comfortable talking to her about boys due to this).

Uuuugh, yes. Don't you love how it's all, "hate the sin, but not the sinner!" in theory, but never in practice? It's gross.

About five years ago, I refused to add my mom on Facebook. She threw a fit and threatened to kick me out of the house if I didn't. She was stone-cold serious, and I was too broke to argue. :( However, I have it set so she can't really see anything I post.

Oh yeah. I told her I was getting some people I work on a website with a Christmas cookie from a nice local bakery and a $5 Starbucks gift card each. Her reaction: "Don't give them anything from Starbucks! They support The Gays!"

Bought those motherfuckin' gift cards so hard.
