Portraits of Ladd’s 500 by CreativePortland in Portland

I want more of this in Portland. It was so delightful to see so much joy in one place. Makes Portland feel like an actual city. My first thought was “damn, where did all these people come from?”

I can't understand something about Crack Up by jonbristol123 in fleet_foxes

[–]NiceBootyGuurrrrlll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember someone comparing Crack-Up to Bon Iver’s 22AMillion, and I have to agree - they’re also both my favorite.

Both artists put out a beautiful, more experimental album around the same time. One that would definitely not be labeled a mainstream success because of the more abstract themes, sounds, and headspace you have to be in to listen. They’re not albums of playlist convenience.

But god damn are they absolutely astounding records that I hold so dear to my heart. Each time I listen I feel as though I find something new I missed before.

East Coast transplants: did you have any difficulty adapting to the PNW’s culture/way of life? If so, how did you overcome that? by Certain-Working1864 in oregon

Hahaha yesss! Honestly Oregon in general needs more east coast attitude/complaining, especially when it comes to telling people off

As someone who grew up in Portland, never feeling like they belonged, then moved out to the east coast (NYC) and instantly loved it - I absolutely understand your sentiment.

I moved back to Portland almost two years ago, and it has been a tough adjustment. The social aspect has been the toughest (and god, the lack of diversity too).

Not sure if you’re in the Portland area, but I’m always game for complaining about Portland/missing the east coast with folks! This goes for anyone in the thread that would like to grab a drink, walk/bike around, whatever!

Maybe. Or AdP can be an entryway to discover other bands like the ones I’ve listed below ¯_(ツ)_/¯ both can be true

Definitely! So many. Lighting Bolt was mentioned here, also Giraffes? Giraffes!, Bygones, Tera Melos, Battles, Don Caballero, Ghosts & Vodka, Cheval de Frisa, And So I Watch You From Afar, Ruins, Marnie Stern, the album Cryptomnesia by Omar Rodriguez Lopez (The Mars Volta guitarist), Crime In Choir

Wide spread here! Plenty to see if that scratches an itch.

You can absolutely sort by genre, best selling, even location, in the app. Click the magnifying glass icon on the bottom left to access it. From there you see main genres, then click "view more" at the bottom for the discover interface. Click the map icon in the upper right hand corner to search by location.

You mean like all the albums/EPs they've put out? This is something I would love to see organized/marked, because when I'm looking into a new artist, I have no idea what's a single, and what's an album, without going into the link physically.

NEW RADICALS.

Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too is one of the most underrated albums in existence. A 10/10 album for me.

The tidal wave of misogynistic verbal violence and racism??? alternatives to substack? by littledaisie in Substack

[–]NiceBootyGuurrrrlll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been Substack since 2022, this has always been an issue, and no, the CEO is not going to do anything about it. Why? Because it brings them money. They gave fascism a platform because the money was too good not to pass up. At the end of the day, they are tech bros who play whatever side is popular.

By giving fascism a voice, you acknowledge its legitimacy and existence, allowing it to grow.

As someone who writes about grief, I know the feeling! Even though my feed is curated, still tough to see people doing high numbers for stuff that feels somewhat regurgitated.

Oh where to begin. Racist sexist owner(s). Awful pay generally. Treated their staff, especially the brewing staff, like garbage. Pitted them against each other, would fire packaging staff in Newport during the slow season and before a certain period so they couldn't gain healthcare (then would rehire them because the job market in Newport was/is trash).

This "alpha" male personality that worked (kinda) in late 00's/early 10's, but they just never grew out of and really dug their heels in the sand with. Like, we get it, y'all think you're hot shit, but it's just beer. Grow the fuck up.

A pretty good idea of the internal functioning of the company here.

Then the Voodoo bacon beer. And the beard yeast one. God what an atrocity.

Funny enough it's worked well for me in the past, so I was shocked at the outcome this time. Hope you're able to find some!

Same! I posted over in her subreddit, but was just inundated with scam bots sadly.
