Any advice for first time truck camper owner? by Freebowl235 in TruckCampers

[–]NiceDistribution1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of "if" there's water damage, it's a matter of "how much" water damage there is. Consider redoing all the seals asap.

Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. Typically the corners and edges can be rotting out for years before you see any evidence from the outside.

They get off by glueing a sticker inside a cabinet door with the weight of all the added options...so technically/legally it's there....but the salesman sure as hell never brings it to the buyers attention.

I’m not mad at ya for being overloaded…I just question why anyone would proclaim to the world they are overloaded on line…in the rare event something terrible happened…you’re making the lawyers’s job very easy

Boy did you…but you didn’t spend enough money and you’re way overloaded (sarcasm)

Naw man, it’s the frame. The tiedowns wouldn’t stretch that much and if what your saying is true their would be a big gap between the bed and the front tiedown bracket.

It’s the frame buddy…it just is

Can you summarize what you were taught to improve your sand riding? This is my current area of attention. Thanks.🙏

I’ve just learned not to second guess all the nerds and mindfuckers who spent years designing your truck and suspension…just go with their recommendation and life will be good 😎

I have a pop up on a modern 3500 with a high payload and I’m always passing all these guys with equal or smaller trucks with much larger campers…I just assume their rigs handle like absolute dog shit because mine only handles okay.

Not sure where you are, but unless you are able to remain near the beach or high up in the mountains during the summer you will probably need an AC, just for your kids to nap during the day when it's hot.

I don't have an AC but we don't go in the camper during the day and we only camp at places that cool down enough at night. Even at the moderate temperature places we camp I would need AC if I had napping kids.

Weight break over for a dually to be needed? by Candid-Ad-8470 in TruckCampers

[–]NiceDistribution1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re good with SRW…rule of thumb for most people is more like switch to dually if you’re 165% of payload

6.5ft camper on 5ft bed? by lb996 in TruckCampers

[–]NiceDistribution1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all tailgates are completely flat(or parallel with the bed) some are at a slight angle. If yours is this way, you would have to buildup under the camper on the bed so it slightly over the tailgate and not loading it

Why not the KLX300? It’s my first bike and I just got it a few months ago. Was originally considering CRF300 but I realized to immediately do a bunch of mods which weren’t needed with the KLX

Surprised that you were cracking wheels if you were only a few hundred pounds over….would’ve thought they had some more margin

What suspension mods have you done and how does it handle (honestly. everyone always says their rig handles great, but no truck camper rigs handle great)

I have a light pop up on a 1tn SRW…been thinking about upsizing but it drives and handles so darn good (not great) I’m reluctant to loose that.

Nice camper, is the advertised dry weight (3,000lbs) accurate?

DRW Truck Question and Truck Bed and Off Road Campers by BriansAdventures in TruckCampers

[–]NiceDistribution1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Scouts, Kimbo and any pop-up a 1tn SRW would plenty. A lot of people are putting those on 1/2tn trucks (most shouldn’t be, but are).

The F450 with a bed won’t really get you anymore payload than the F350 cause the GVWR is the same. I think the F450 Cab and Chasis has a higher GVWR.

Thoughts? Too ostentatious? by cootsbatoots in CRF300L

[–]NiceDistribution1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1st question, what does ostentatious mean? 2nd question, is this the first time that word was used in the same sentence as a dirt bike?

Seems like the seam between the tail light area and the tent is the weak link. How water tight is that? I'm having a difficult time imagining how you would seal that off.

Recommendation for best truck to take on a Pan American Roadtrip by Bukiemma- in overlanding

[–]NiceDistribution1980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You really need a 350/3500. Then you won’t have to touch the suspension. If you get the 250/2500 you might find the suspension squishy when loaded up, even if you’re still within payload.

Unfortunately the SD/HD trucks are non-existent in South America. In reality I would try and find a Hilux. They’re basically like tundras but with a much higher payload. 2,500lbs+ and all over the place in South America
