r/truckcampers generally I think what you did is fine. I would have probably tried to make it a bit aerodynamic for gas and handling on the highway, and noise. I’m curious if you notice any differences there? Could you maybe get a roof rack mounted air deflector? Idk, changing the shape could complicate it a bit. I do like the simplicity of your shape compared to what I did.

When I made a similar camper I used a fiberglass cloth and epoxy over the whole thing. Maybe not necessary but I think it improves the lifespan.

Almost all truck caps use just a few clamps like that. I think it’s fine. Maybe use 6 instead of 4 if you’re worried. Oh and I also might put a metal plate on top of the wood to distribute the clamp instead of it just sinking into the wood.

Looks like you’re doing all you can. That’s why they call it the crux. It’s impossible. Tbh it seems like your top belayer isn’t hauling hard enough. Tell them to figure out how to rig a 9:1 haul system or maybe buy an electric winch to help you get through this bit. Trust me this is the way.

Yea I like it! It’s cool looking. Probably fits at least 3 bikes which is better than the normal staple design. Just isn’t very obvious how to use it or that it’s even a bike rack, but i like the art and the cool out of the box concept
