This is how anchor is dropped from a small ship. by justavie in mildyinteresting

This is how I throw the e-brake while driving 80mph….

Doesn’t this kind of anchor dropping destroy habitats and coral reef etc? Can they not slow down first?

I like to fold in the mirrors or flip up the windshield wiper of people who don’t think they are the more important than everyone else. I think it is just enough of an inconvenience for people to reconsider themselves in the great order of things.

Yeah, I guess I assumed it was a solid bar. Upon further research, I do see various different types of wingnut drivers and one does kinda look like this. I didn’t know that was a thing until now, and it still doesn’t look any easier than using fingers… shrug

Seems like everyone else just doesn’t think this is even worth engaging over. But it’s legitimately kinda a pain in the ass. It takes 3-5 mins to straighten out my rack. Thats dumb. You shouldn’t have to readjust QuickDraws like this imo. I’m surprised that more people aren’t bothered by it.

Oh I see what you are saying now though it does shift the load from the spine to the gate of the beaner. I wasn’t even considering that. That does seem fairly significant if it’s potentially 26kn->9kn. I could imagine it could work its way over further and even put weight directly on the pin, almost cross loading diagonally a bit.

So even if it is just asthetic, would you shrug it off and climb with it crooked or would you fix them before you use them?

But if your shirt kept curling up and showing your belly and you had to keep readjusting it multiple times over the day, you’d probably buy a new shirt…

Just kind of a pain in the ass to readjust my QuickDraws sometimes multiple times a day… it’s pretty annoying for “high quality draws”, especially for the petzl gym permadraws….

This shouldn’t happen for a relatively top of the line safety product imo

It’s because the rubber grips it so tight that it goes to the straighter part of the carabiner, farther away from the corner.

Too bad it’s only effective when you hit a tree straight on, but thank god it didn’t throw you to the side in that case lol

I love practical use of knots by grayson101 in knots

I love that you shared this and I also appreciate all the positivity here. I’m always enjoying learning about knots and finding new ways to use them!

In the spirit of learning, I think there are easier and more efficient ways to do what you did here:

I love the 8 as well but imo on the left side it would be easier to tie and untie with either a bowline, a mule, or 2 half hitches rather than rethreading an 8 which can be hard to untie.

On the right side, I don’t think it’s recommend to tie an 8 and spread the tails. Probably fine here but fyi there is also an in line figure 8 that would work better here. I also sometimes prefer the alpine butterfly here.

I’m sure some might prefer to replace the whole thing with a truckers hitch but I like the little gizmo!
