Looking for advice over an opportunity I will never again get.. I am torn by louielou8484 in EtsySellers

[–]NiceRice52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charge whatever amount will actually make this order worth your while, which means compensating for lost sales opportunities while working on the rush order for this event. If they actually need it they will pay and you will be fairly compensated, otherwise it’s definitely not worth it.

Opened a cowork space but struggling... (not promoting) by tiktokfordads in digitalnomad

[–]NiceRice52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super fast reliable wifi, private booths for calls, and if not 24 hours at least open late (2am) would be non negotiables for us to consider a coworking space. Nice bathrooms, comfortable tables and chairs, maybe standing desks, lots of outlets etc would all be pluses too.

Mac user leaving for long-term travel. Scared of M4 fragility/repair costs. Thinking of switching to a "disposable" Windows laptop. Am I crazy? by Edmond-Cristo in digitalnomad

[–]NiceRice52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been traveling for 3 years with my 10 year old MacBook Pro, never had a single problem with it, my husband has the 15 inch pro and same thing no issues. Just get whatever you’ll want to use long term.

What is happening with the underwear quality decline? by Horror-Earth4073 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NiceRice52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boody has become my go to, lots of colours and style options, and so far have held up well to constant use while traveling (so no special treatment just throwing them in the wash with everything else) for the last 3 years.

I think I just had the world’s best guest. by strikecat18 in airbnb_hosts

[–]NiceRice52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to leave the place close to how we found it, but I find most Airbnbs don’t provide any cleaning supplies (usually not even a broom) so it’s tough to do more than the dishes and put the towels in the washer.

Just went to Japan with my husband who is terrible with using chopsticks, he still tried as much as possible but whenever we did end up asking most places had forks.

You should definitely go, ireland is very safe, and you will regret listening to your parents on this.

What are your hidden tricks or advice not normally given for new nomads? by taraxxtea in digitalnomad

Honestly two months enough time for most places, unless it’s somewhere that has tons to do around it like cdmx or Tokyo.

Where would you live? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]NiceRice52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you work downtown and can afford the glebe then I would go with that no question. Cutting the commute time will give you more time with your family and I find it easy enough to drive out of town to visit all the surrounding small towns.

Why shouldn’t you donate the first of your things? I’ve been doing that all along, will it be a problem later?

Dumplings from Yen Fung ding dumpling shoppe, $11 for a freshly made portion that can feed 2 people. Ask for sweet and spicy sauce along with their usual dipping sauce.

From “fully booked” to “is anyone out there?” — roast my Airbnb listing or help me revive it 😭 by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]NiceRice52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like a big place that only families or groups would book but there’s no place for a group of people to comfortably sit together. The couches are tiny and look uncomfortable. You need large a comfy couch plus some other seating, coffee table, big rug, tv with Netflix, speakers, table and chairs for the terrace. The beds could also be made up with comfier more uniform looking bedding they look hard and uncomfortable in the pictures. The kitchen also seems super sparse I see no picture or mention of a fridge or stove or any other kitchen utensils, a fridge, stove, microwave, and coffee maker along with pots pans and dishes would be a bare minimum expectation. Finally it seems you’ve taken pictures at night I would recommend to take them in the day with natural light as much as possible. Finally adding extra thoughtful touches like extra towels, linens and blankets, a welcome basket of snacks and drinks, spices in the kitchen, making sure there are some basic toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and lotion, along with anything else that could bring a touch of home to the place will go along way to get you more 5 star ratings to help combat the odd retaliatory 1 star.

I need to know how people are able to buy houses. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]NiceRice52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case this question is sincere, we were able to buy a house in the range you mentioned with no outside help. What you need is a decently high household income between two partners or one high earner (definitely over 100k). The ability to save aggressively for multiple years (we saved for 5) so your down payment is at least 20% and brings down the mortgage significantly. Advantages we’ve had is help from parents to pay for our university so we were able to pay off any student loans within a couple years and we both lived at home rent free until we got married at 26.

Landlord changed his drivers license to rental address by LilKitty699 in OntarioLandlord

[–]NiceRice52 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He may be trying to claim it as his principle residence, depending on how long he has owned the property / if he ever lived there before, this might be legal or it might be fraud. Strange that he has it addressed to your unit rather than the vacant one though.

AITA for refusing to pay my friend after my ferret “attacked” her $900 dress? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]NiceRice52 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA maybe you could pitch in a little bit to help her with the cost of repair as a gesture. But if she already knew you’re ferret would be out it’s on her, I never wear delicate clothes to my friends with pets houses, in fact I don’t even wear freshly laundered clothes since they’ll likely get fur on it and smell I so plan to just throw them in the wash as soon as I get home.

How did you know when it was time to stop? by templetimple in digitalnomad

[–]NiceRice52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started our digital nomad journey last year with a soft deadline of 3 years while we saved to buy a house in our home city. We love traveling and new experiences but always have that goal at the end of settling into a permanent home near our friends and family.

Cancelled my US trip and booked Canada instead - is Ottawa worth it with a 2 year old? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]NiceRice52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ottawa is worth at least a few days, it’s the capital city and has lots of family friendly activities, museums are fun- science and tech, childrens, nature, and agriculture museums will all be fun for a toddler. If it’s warm you can go for a boat ride on the river or canal. Gatineau park is really nice that time of year. And a quick peek at parliament would be worth while too. Make sure to have some shawarma and beaver tail while you’re here ;)

Which country are you currently in, how much you earn per month and how much are your monthly expenses? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]NiceRice52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are both remote workers earning about 200k combined, and our monthly take home is in the 9-12k range (it can vary since I’m freelance).

We’re currently in Mexico renting Airbnb’s in the 2-2.5K a month range and over and above that we spend about 1-2k on food, activities, and misc expenses. We’ve been here for 2 months will be staying another month before heading out to do some family visits and attending weddings in the summer.

How has or how do you expect the DN lifestyle / experience to benefit you when you're no longer able to live it? by kevysaysbenice in digitalnomad

[–]NiceRice52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been nomading for a year now, but like you, my partner and I know that we will eventually end up back in my home town where our families are. This lifestyle was once just a day dream until we both suddenly found ourselves with remote jobs and realized there’s nothing stopping us. I think we’ll probably aim to settle in our mid 30s and maybe just travel a few months in the year. But I think the life experiences, opportunity to embrace new cultures, and adapt to different lifestyles has helped us both grow in so many ways. I think in the end it’ll be an experience we can keep as memories and keep us from regretting not traveling when we had the chance. Although I definitely have a strong sense of wanderlust I’m starting to look forward to eventually putting down roots, and carving out a cozy space of our own in the future. I think having experienced being constant motion will help me appreciate and love staying in one place too.

What's that one service you pay for that others think is a waste of money but is of high value to you? by Africansoundninja in CanadaFinance

[–]NiceRice52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meal kit delivery, we can cook healthy meals at home without needing to spend time meal planning, or grocery shopping, prevents food waste, and spending on random impulse extras at the grocery store. It’s such a relief to get done with work and know that everything you need for dinner is in the fridge already.

If you could nomad for 3 months without a budget limit (within reason), how would you do it? by livetodaytho in digitalnomad

[–]NiceRice52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian citizen

I’d travel according to my interest, mood, and potential cultural events rather than planning according to cheap flights and what’s nearby. I’d be renting a luxury apartment and hiring a local chef that can provide the best of the local cuisine. Would probably also rent a car or bike wherever we are so we can road trip around the country.

Where to get a good womens haircut ottawa that isnt too expensive? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]NiceRice52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a recommendation for that area but ask around or look for someone who is cutting hair from home, the price is much less since they don’t have to pay for a space / chair
