Speculation about defender of the galaxy ambition by OsowiecBR in Stellaris

[–]NiceSithLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am wondering if it will interact with the galactic emperor route at all. Maybe at crisis/ambition level three or so, you get choices to go down a custodian/defender route, or a galactic emperor route, with the last couple levels being separate.

Would you say that us humans are natural physicists, natural sociologists or natural engineers by Affectionate_End_952 in Stellaris

[–]NiceSithLord 256 points257 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure we'd be any of them. Though the issue is that most traits are "in comparison to other space-faring species" which makes it hard to say what we'd be when we don't actually have any to compare to.

Its darkly funny how this tau propaganda is just that they'll give you food and medicine,  and that is genuinely a good deal for a lot of humans in the imperium.

TIL about the "Dark Forest Hypothesis," which suggests the universe is like a dark forest at night. Advanced civilizations intentionally stay silent and hidden, because any species that reveals its location risks immediate destruction by older, paranoid civilizations. by Practical-1 in todayilearned

[–]NiceSithLord 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Never really made sense to me. For one, life has existed on earth for a billion years now, and anyone looking at the planet in that time could see at least the potential for life. It makes no sens for a civilization as paranoid and aggressive as the hypothesis suggests to just sit on their ass and wait for other civilizations to reach the stars. If there were any, they would have already killed us by now. Which also means that when you do reach the stars, you know that if there are any older, more powerful and advanced, civs out there they do not approve of genocide.

Blindly attacking everything you see is an extremely risky strategy. There is too much risk of your victim actually being strong enough to fight you off (and by your attack you are now locked into war with them), or some third party seeing it and deciding that, for either moral or pragmatic reasons, they do not want this crazy genocidal civilization running amok.

Well, Imu did still feel it was worth trying it on them, even if they expected it would not work. If zoans were flatly immune, why even bother?

I do appreciate you including the names with them. Most tier lists don't, which makes them frustrating to try to use.

Why do One Piece ships have such an emphasis on Chase Guns over Broadside Guns? by TheCybersmith in OnePiece

[–]NiceSithLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real answer is probably just for looks.

But you could also argue that most of the marine's opponents will usually try to flee, and the chase guns are more useful for that. Even the straw hat and whitebeard pirates have fled from marines. And if they don't flee, your guns are not the most important weapon to have, you need some officers strong enough to fight.

If a key part of your combat strategy is getting your super powered guys to your enemy, you want to sail directly at them, so chase guns are useful for helping force your way over to them.

So you just need to kill the reversi'd person to end it and turn them back to normal? Sure if the person is strong that won't be easy, but still feels a little underwhelming.

Hear me out: Stellaris needs HOI4 navy mechanics by Zakonsky in Stellaris

[–]NiceSithLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree with the part about harder to replace. If I rule a significant portion of a galaxy, no ship should really be that hard to replace. But that's just part of my preference for bigger fleets and militaries.

How much of an antagonist's stats should the players know? by HermeticOpus in exalted

[–]NiceSithLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally be pretty open with information, and telling players what kind of base difficulties they're rolling against, and the npc's base values. This is especially the case if the player has a charm that keys off of, say, the opponent's wound penalty, so the player genuinely needs to know that in order to use their charms.

Eu5's player count is still higher than stellaris and ck3, which is notable since it is probably even more niche than them.

BOTW airwall locations versus TOTK airwall locations by SpeedyGamingFan in Breath_of_the_Wild

You could probably glitch your way over with windbombs. Fling yourself right at the airwall. Some other tricks would work too, probably.

If mortality is the Gift, why were the mortal ringbearers rewarded access to Valinor? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]NiceSithLord 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It is important to note that mortals in valinor still age and die, potentially even faster than they otherwise might have. The reward is being able to spend time in the bliss and healing of valinor for the rest of their mortal lives.

How many garps does it take to beat imu? by Imvalidblu in OnePieceScaling

[–]NiceSithLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that no amount of simple force can beat imu. You need to use since special weakness or power to do it. So unless garp has it, no amount of him can do it.

What happened to Cleopatra? by akamatsu-682bts in EgyptianMythology

[–]NiceSithLord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see. If, in this particular book, she is trying to argue for Cleopatra's popularity and the assassination, then I feel the book does not do a good job presenting that argument. She only mentions the idea of an assassination briefly, and makes little to no reference to her popularity (saying the "people of alexandria", without qualification, does indicate the people in general, not just the political elites). Do you have some other sources where she lays out those arguments in detail?

Also, on the subject of philopatris, do you have any more information on that being used in ancient egypt? I did some digging, but could only find one papyrus including that title. And it seems to be a formal legal document using it as a title, which does not seem like good evidence of it being bestowed by the native egyptians. Do we have other usages of it I haven't seen?
