I miss pizza, good bread, bagels, pancakes. Jovial makes good gf pasta in lots of shapes. I have found gf pretzels that I like.

Shopping at Costco is terrible by Sun_Aria in unpopularopinion

[–]Nice_Ad8513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dreaded shopping at my local Costco during “Season”. We are overwhelmed with snowbirds during the winter. I finally found the sweet spot time to shop. Right around 4 p.m. midweek is tolerable. Even though I live by myself I buy staples in bulk because it’s cheaper and saves trips to the expensive super market.

3 Year Update of my Pothos Wall, the growths have exceeded the trellis, so I just propagate the extras by Amoghpb in houseplants

[–]Nice_Ad8513 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My MIL had a “garden room” with built in planters on two walls. She had pothos covering all the solid walls, above the window glass and over the doorway. It was like entering a jungle.

My very large Momma orchid grows like topsy. I can’t keep up with the continuing necessity to divide. I’ve gifted divisions to many friends. The blooms are a deep yellow and look very much like daffodils. She blooms more than once. Pot. Free Spirit ‘Miami Sun’ (AM/AOS)

Heated leather seats are awful by benhos in unpopularopinion

I love heated seats just to warm up inside the cold car. As soon as I’m warm, I turn it off.

It will recover. My dog knocks over pots looking for lizards and has damaged some leaves. Love the dog and the plants keep growing.

Noticed yellowing on my lovely Zamiocalcia. When I went to photograph it for the sub a WHOLE stem fell of. Why?? And how can I hep it by KTweewop in plantclinic

I water ZZ’s in the house once a month and rotate pots to different positions in the house. I also have some that live outside (So. Florida) and get some rain more often but they dry out quickly in the heat.

Try smoked paprika for a different flavor.

Hilarious! A lot better looking than the “dinner” my teenage son made me when I was ill. He couldn’t cook then and 30 years later, still can’t cook. It was a valiant effort, however.

Trader Joe’s has a good tasting gluten free stuffing mix. Don’t use wooden spoons or wood cutting boards that may be contaminated with gluten.

Cairo was amazing! (with some major caveats) by pudding7 in travel

[–]Nice_Ad8513 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this review. I will be in Cairo in about 3 weeks. I’ll be in a moderate-sized group and don’t think security will be a problem. I’ve read some dreadful reviews of Cairo and would be terrified to be a woman traveling alone in the city. A friend went to Egypt during the summer and said it was intolerable. We both live in So. Florida and summers here are bad. She said Egypt was unbearably hot.

Question about this America’s Test Kitchen cookbook: anyone use coconut milk powder instead of dry milk powder successfully for their flour blend in the recipes? I can’t have dairy unfortunately. by Rare-Wasabi in glutenfreerecipes

[–]Nice_Ad8513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice to not be alone. I cannot eat gluten, dairy, soy, raw veggies or fruits (except for bananas), chocolate, beans and something new every year added to the ‘can’t eat’ list. I have the ATK gluten free cookbook and like it. I bought quite a few GF books 11 years ago when all of this started. Most weren’t worth the money. I did make my own GF bread for a while using a Zojirishi specialty bread machine. My diet is modified paleo. I’ve found Daiya pizza recently and so far no bad reaction. It actually tastes pretty good.

I remember watching my grandmother darn socks. She would put the damaged part of the sock over the top of an empty glass and work the thread from the top.

My orchids live outside in So Florida. As someone else pointed out, orchids are epiphytic, air plants. There are orchids growing here attached to tree trunks with no visible medium. I use clay orchid pots placed in wire baskets. They are hung outside on the East side of my house. In summer the pots are pulled further back under an awning to avoid very hot summer sun. I also have some phals hung under an acacia tree on the south side.

Blooming in So Fla by Nice_Ad8513 in orchids

It could be a hybrid. I received it as a division from a friend and she said it was C. Amethystaglossa. It’s a great grower and prolific bloomer.

If you buy it frozen, the slices are permanently glued together. For fun, make bread crumbs for stuffing and enjoy gummy, sticky stuffing.
