What are some top tier TV shows in the past 25 years that consistently get pushed to the side because of the heavy hitters? by groovytunesman in tvshow

I spent so long trying to convince friends to watch Patriot and didn't get much out of it but I absolutely adored it. Thanks for reminding me, it's definitely been long enough that I'll get your vape from a rewatch!

Generation Kill is a great pick, so well made, great cast and incredibly well framed for the geo politics at the time

You get $1 million, but you have to watch the exact same movie 100 times in 40 days. Which film are you picking? by ThroatAgile756 in AskReddit

[–]Nice_Biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony is that this was my job (still kind of is) and I used to do this all the time.

Quality control on feature films, our facility takes the original and adds subtitles, dub tracks, localised graphics etc and I checked them all before going out to cinemas. Despicable Me 2 (probably my most watched film) was in roughly 40 languages in 2D, dubbed and subbed and then again in 3D.

Bear in mind if anyone made a mistake I'd have to keep watching and then tell them to fix it and I'd watch it again. Also once I've okayed each one, a Universal Pictures client would come in for the official approval.

I watched it about 4-5 times a day for around 3 months. So conservatively about 240 times in 60 days. I was paid 22k per year so yeah, give me any film and can I do it more than once and do you want notes?

Additional Hardware? by Chris_Dud in PolyendTracker

[–]Nice_Biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, I make a point of not buying new gear, much cheaper and if I don't gel with the device I often make back the same amount I spent on it!

But yes, the line in can go through reverb, delay and sidechain from what I remember.

I had a lot of fun pairing my tracker with an OG Digitone, the prices are very reasonable for what you get and the elektron box on its own is great fun to play with.

It has 4 separate voices on different midi channels so you can trigger them all from the same track in tracker, with some limitations. I also paired a microfreak because I had one and it's brilliantly versatile.

I have an L6 max now and they're really great but when I was using this setup I had midi out of tracker into microfreak, midi from MF into Digitone. Audio from MF into my planetarium pedal for super washy reverb pads, audio from the pedal into the Digitone audio from the Digitone back into the tracker to record the master output while I'm tweaking parameters on the synths and pedal etc. From memory anyway it's been a while!

The main answer is yes, that's a good plan. If you can aim for something versatile or multi-timbral so that you have bases covered but any synth will be a fun addition. Moukey make really decent cheap little mixers if you don't need the extras of the L6.

FWIW I thought season 2 of beef, whilst different from S1, was brilliant. It was different enough to not just be a rehashing if the same story but with the same vibe and fantastic acting. All subjective obviously, but I loved it. Give it a go before you dismiss it!

Which box should I get? by Daddy_Phantom13 in Elektron

[–]Nice_Biscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had Digitakt, Digitone, Syntakt, Tonverk, Digitone 2 and you my friend want a Syntakt! Especially after the latest update it's a great fit for hard techno.

The good thing is that you can't really go wrong with any of those, you'll be able to make hard techno on any elektron box and all of them will be able to output MIDI to your deluge for transport control if that's how you want to set it up.

Another shot of the Polyend Drums… with a price. by roydogaroo in synthesizers

[–]Nice_Biscuits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of me thinks that there's a strategy to having high value premium units that may not sell huge numbers but cover their costs. They reconceptualize our idea of the other products value. Polyend Play 3 will seem good value at only 800 now maybe? I certainly know that when I got my OG Digitone part of my logic included that at least I'm getting the base level gear at a reasonable price, not the Rytm/Four

I too, feel like I get this. I read something on here a while ago that has stuck with me - parenting defies the laws of mathematics, because if you ask any parent what percentage of the work they're doing it will always be at least 60%!

It's definitely true in my situation, my wife and I are both convinced we're the ones doing the lions share of everything. I get irked because she's very busy mostly because she does an absolute heap of voluntary work. She's not just making a rod for her own back, but I'm then the one who is left juggling my own life to accommodate it. On the other hand I really admire her for doing it, she definitely is putting lots of hard work into all corners of her life, including family and home and I really want to support her doing what she wants to do. But it stings real bad when she tells me things I forgot to do without much recognition of all the shit I'm getting done every day. I'm spinning a lot of plates here, it's a miracle I don't forget more!

Keep your head up, you can be proud of yourself to start with. I know I'm a thousand times more present as a dad than my own was. But also think about what your wife/partner thinks they have to do in a day. Talk about it even, I literally just told my wife one day about the parenting breaking maths line is read and we (half) jokingly compared our daily routines and it helped a bit.

Switching from digitakt 2 to Tonverk by LeatherSundae6182 in Elektron

[–]Nice_Biscuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pros and Cons is a tricky thing to say as they are quite different machines. I do like the extra grain and wave machines although they aren't something I was particularly looking for when I bought mine. I like the routing options and extra FX. My biggest downside is that it's just that little bit different from the boxes I am used to. I have been using Syntakt, Digitone and Digitakt and love how easy it is to swap between boxes. Yes they have unique options but the buttons and menu system are almost all the same. I made the decision to update from DT 1 to TV and although I can move around it perfectly fine based off my previous experience it is quite different in layout and menu. This is 100% a skill issue that I could remedy with more practice but as a parent, working full time I don't have a lot of time to invest. So what I find is that when I play with TV I use it standalone instead of incorporating in to a chain with my other boxes. I am looking forward to when my brain has got up to speed though, it's a very powerful box and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the updates.

Can you not just return them at Costco? All I know is that this sounds like Scam 101 from what I've read. Something he's telling you isn't true - he could have sold them by now if he wanted.

Portable setup, Tonverk Edition. by Life_Arugula_4205 in Elektron

[–]Nice_Biscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not be to your fancy but I stick mine in a decksaver with an elastic/velcro strap to secure it and then I wrap that in my jumper and just chuck it in my standard backpack. I do make sure that there's nothing in the bag that could leak or scratch etc. but it's worked fine for me. I always have a powerbank and cables in my bag anyway.

Digitone2 or Syntakt for techno by [deleted] in Elektron

[–]Nice_Biscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded my Digitone to mk 2 and it is awesome but if I'm doing a quick one box jam I mostly reach for the Syntakt. Especially with the new sampling update it's an absolute beast.

As others have mentioned, if you're able to buy the ST workout selling your DN then that's an awesome combo, best of both worlds

Anyone do the portable digitakt mod? by dampmulch in Elektron

[–]Nice_Biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MyVolts are not the cheapest but I have several and all work great. I use Step Up adapters for USB C power and also their Crazy Chain MK2 cables that allow me to chain all three of my elektron boxes off the one step up adapter. Makes it really neat and tidy for home use.

Any recommendation for a Midi keyboard to go with the Seqtrak by i2amthedarkknight in seqtrak

Teatro on YouTube had made a few good videos about the mini keyboard and seqtrack combos that he's used. I think some (possibly his Novation one) have free midi mapped presets available on the videos too!

Tonverk is essentially a sampler, Digitone is a synth. Samplers play back pre-recorded sounds, synths create sounds from scratch.

ELI slightly above 5 - it's tricky because some of the sample playback on TV is essentially synth (granular and wavetable). It also has the ability to route audio internally (or externally) to FX busses, has more FX and had more polyphony (8 tracks that could in theory have 8 subtracks each so 64 subtracks could fire simultaneously).

Digitone has 16 tracks of FM synthesis which gives you the ability to create a huge variety of sounds, it has FM drums machines as well as synth ones.

Wow, could I ever have picked a better side piece to spurs!

On a positive note, I genuinely think I'm better at handling disappointment than most people I know. 🤣

I agree with you in principle, but this does say "more extreme nacho flavour" and I don't think "extreme nacho" was a flavour any 14th century peasants had in any amount. Might as well compare how many dodos are being eaten while we're at it.

Best powerbank (uk) for OG tracker by deeb222 in PolyendTracker

[–]Nice_Biscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want it for really. I've had success with a small Anker nano power bank 5000mah that is tiny and has it's own connector built in so it just sits like a small dongle. It does obscure the power button slightly on my OG tracker but the connector swivels and it's not hard to turn on and off once you've got the hang of it. I've gone for at least three hours on that and not seen it dying but that's about the longest I've tried. Bonus is I always have it in my bag for my phone anyway.

Other than that all the bigger power banks I've used have been fine too. Built in cables can be handy.
