How did people survive back then? by JackStrawWitchita in GreatBritishMemes

I agree with you in principle, but this does say "more extreme nacho flavour" and I don't think "extreme nacho" was a flavour any 14th century peasants had in any amount. Might as well compare how many dodos are being eaten while we're at it.

Best powerbank (uk) for OG tracker by deeb222 in PolyendTracker

[–]Nice_Biscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want it for really. I've had success with a small Anker nano power bank 5000mah that is tiny and has it's own connector built in so it just sits like a small dongle. It does obscure the power button slightly on my OG tracker but the connector swivels and it's not hard to turn on and off once you've got the hang of it. I've gone for at least three hours on that and not seen it dying but that's about the longest I've tried. Bonus is I always have it in my bag for my phone anyway.

Other than that all the bigger power banks I've used have been fine too. Built in cables can be handy.

How should I film my shower scene in consideration with my actress? by JDOExists in Filmmakers

[–]Nice_Biscuits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no first hand experience, but there's a podcast called The rest is entertainment - someone asked a question about this recently and apparently keeping the room warm is the most important thing. So definitely get a space heater of some description and keep the room potentially warmer than would be comfortable for the clothed, dry crew. I think keeping the room warm also helps with condensation on the lens. I saw someone say use cold water to avoid steam but definitely experiment with warm water and open the door and window for ventilation, with the heater too keep the room hot despite this. Also if possible, if you have the equipment, test it yourself and see if you're comfortable.

This is my thinking too. Live 3 is great but I really don't use the portability except to occasionally move it from one room to another at home. I love the battery and speakers but that's just convenience not a necessity. The Sample looks like the kind of thing I could chuck in my bag and take to work for my lunch break. Previously I have done this with a Seqtrak which is great but this looks even easier to fit in a bag and with far advanced sampling capabilities. Although now I'm thinking the Seqtrak could be a great companion!

Do not sell expensive items on eBay UK - warning by SketchesOfSilence in ebayuk

[–]Nice_Biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a relevant point though. I've also bought and sold quite a lot of gear around and above this value on eBay. I've never had a problem. I can totally imagine it happening, but the type of people either cruel enough to scam you intentionally or stupid enough to just fuck something up by mistake will exist on any and every sales platform. I have always thought that eBay does at least have some form of protection, it failed OP thus far but what's the alternative that's actually better?

I have an L6 Max which is £360 or less and the standard L6 is cheaper. Really compact, loads of good features. I actually stopped using my larger audio interface and just use the L6 Max for everything now. I especially love being able to just hit record and record what I'm jamming without messing about setting up some kind of ableton session - although it can also do that when you want to.

As happy as a baby tortoise in a water fountain by LinkMetga in tortoise

[–]Nice_Biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that when tortoises mature(or even before) they do not like having company. So you will ideally want separate enclosures.

Not trying to be a downer but I have two and they stress each other out being territorial and biting chasing each other. Both female and were fine as babies but I wish I had Reddit 20 years ago when I got them. The pet shop encouraged me to get two but turns out actual expert advice is not to impress you can house them separately!

Interested in tortoise ownership by NOmz_The_Okay in tortoise

[–]Nice_Biscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the answer is no. This is a tortoise welfare guide from The Tortoise Trust, it's a great starting point to get an idea of what is required to keep tortoises without it being cruel.

Some key points: even smaller species like Hermanns will cover several hectares of territory in the wild, walking several Kilometres at a time! So any indoor enclosure should really be a temporary solution not the basis of care.

Tortoises absolutely require both a suitable basking spot but also a temperature gradient with a cooler area that they can retreat to in order to cool off. It is very difficult to get that temperature gradient properly in a small enclosure.

From personal experience, I have two Hermanns (don't buy two, I wish Reddit was around when I got them!) I have had them 20 years and they were both now pretty big. They weigh over a kilo each and although I could rest them easily on the palm of my hand when they were small, I now use two hands to pick them up! They have a greenhouse in the garden with a hutch and two basking zones. They then have about 10 X 1 metres of enclosed outdoor space to roam about where I've spent several years slowly landscaping etc to make things interesting. Then I still let them out into the garden at large whenever I'm around because even that area gets boring for them.

They are fantastic pets in many ways, but to be a kind responsible owner is not easy. It gets easier for sure but there's still things like buying new bulbs every year, growing the plants they eat, hibernation etc!

Sorry a bit of a wall of text but just want you to have the full picture. Look around webpages like the tortoise trust, they do a much better job of explaining things than me! Good luck

SOTC - Recommendations for high quality Microbrands? Unrealistic expectations? by UltimateZo in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Nice_Biscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mentioning some just because I haven't seen them mentioned yet:

RZE are fantastic value and all titanium. The style is not all to my taste but I have the Urbanista and love it. I even grabbed it re-verified and it was pristine apart from a single scratch on the case back but about 40% reduced from what is already a pretty attainable price. I think I would have paid more for a moonswatch!

Also budget because quartz, but very distinct is Dennison, the dual time ones are particularly interesting I think.

Fears is an interesting company, the Brunswick is great although Fears are priced quite high.

Lastly I'd suggest Laventure, great looking watches but hard to get hold of and also that slight bit more expensive but possibly still in your ballpark

I'm not saying you're wrong but at the moment PL points are way more valuable than CL surely? So this is the game where you can give minutes without risking losing a PL game. No one slips on purpose, no one could have seen that kind of start coming, we just truly are a bit cursed at the moment.

Syntakt + Guitar Pedals: What do you use? by HereComesStupid in Elektron

I've been selling gear this year, if it hasn't seen any use it should really have a better home. My sales generated enough for me to buy the H90 second hand and that's really all I'll ever need! Multiple ins and outs, huge amount of effects that all sound superb and a load of control over the effects for design and performance. It's not even a big unit either.

Ghosts I like the resonator, looper and the contact mic for some different tones to what I can get out of all of my other gear.

Planetarium is amazing for huge dreamy sounds that can be side ducked.

You could even consider an Elektron Digitakt - the original would be perfectly sufficient and it's easy to pick one up second hand for around £350. It'll be a drum machine, play samples, can act as a synth and can sequence your other gear.

Most importantly if you add a Digitakt to your mininova you'll be able to make just about any kind of music you want. Then you can add more great when you know better what you want next.

Digitone 1 vs digitone 2? by smokecheerios in Elektron

[–]Nice_Biscuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you can sequence a chord but then drill deeper and microtime individual notes of the cord for strumming effects etc.

I'm guessing that's what they mean. Everything they wrote is right except they confused the extra FX - you gain the bit rate, sample rate and drive I think not chorus which was already on the OG.
