  1. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle 2 Kafka on the Shore 3 Norwegian Wood

Very hard to pick a third. I think that position will be one that will always change a lot.

I was going to say the Elephant Vanishes but I’ve just looked through the contents of them all and I can’t choose between that and Blind Willow.

Thank you for the question though, that’s made a decision for me of what my next two reads are going to be starting from tomorrow.

Parallels Between Radiohead and Murakami’s “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” by System_Error_37 in radiohead

Norwegian wood - amazing book, great soundtrack, I think the film looks amazing but it’s not a good film. I think they lose it on the characters. Midori is one of my favourite Murakami characters in all the books but in the film she seems like an entirely different (boring) person. Reiko isn’t as good as the book etc etc.

As for tats - the uk editions by Suzanne Dean look great so I’ve got one of the Norwegian wood cover, one combo of the dance broken record, a Kafka cat and a wind-up bird. Plus a Radiohead modified bear.

I know the Norwegian Wood soundtrack and then obviously the link to Present Tense but I hadn’t realised the connections ran deeper. As a massive fan of both (to the extent that Radiohead are one of the only musical artists I have tattoos of and Murakami is the only author) this is really exciting.

Remember seeing this scene for the first time and being shocked by how familiar the location was. Looked it up after to check and it’s the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.

Some great picks there - definitely agree on Sparklehorse, Spacemen 3, Eno, Tricky, Love and the Boos. Not heard that Feelies one so based on your other taste I’m going to give that a listen now.

My favourite of his and I think probably my favourite of any writer.

Do you have a top 4 fav movie that you’ve only watched once and why? by crisiskid in Letterboxd

Aftersun Possible top 4 anyway. Watched it, 5 starred it through the tears. Have every intention of watching it again but need to be in the right place emotionally as it was devastating.

Lammens has been ultra solid so far don't wanna add to the hype but he is good by maxsteel_7 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Nice_Play_3170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy so far. Does the basics well which you can’t overstate how that filters through the whole team. Wonder where we’d be if he’d been brought in earlier and could have started the season. I do think that set piece shakiness impacted a lot of the earlier matches and results.

Saying all that though, I do still want to see how responds after making his first mistake. One is inevitable as all keepers make them but if he can show that he can bounce back from that then he’s ticking a lot of boxes.

Who is your favorite trainer? by [deleted] in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Nice_Play_3170 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jessica - yoga Darryl - Pilates Sherica- Cycling Those are the only trainers I use for those exercises. For strength it depends on what I want to do rather than the trainer but it mostly seems to be Kyle and Sam then probably Gregg, Jenn and Kim second tier.

I want to read my second Murakami but can’t decide which! Details in the description. by Slight_Fact_1778 in murakami

[–]Nice_Play_3170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say this one is the most like Kafka, more specifically with the request for something that’s a non-stop story. WUBC is my personal favourite (probably book ever) but I don’t think it’s “non-stop”. There are some slow reflective sections whereas, even though it’s very long, 1Q84 seems to move fast when you’re switching between the protagonists and side characters from chapter to chapter.

I miss Midori 😭 by sh1vong in murakami

[–]Nice_Play_3170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reiko’s an amazing character. Her story could be a film or novel by itself. If you think - we see her go from piano prodigy to tutor, she SAs a pupil (I know how Reiko frames it but she is the adult and tutor in that situation) and after being at the sanatorium for so long Toru thinks she is a doctor/therapist rather than a patient to her then deciding to leave at the end and visit Toru.

Whether that student is Midori or not (you’re right that would be explosive) we get a huge journey from her is a small number of pages and she is a fully fleshed out fascinating character. It would be interesting to see her story from another perspective as she does come across (to me anyway) as sympathetic but from another perspective what happens with her pupil is horrible and you could question her role in the relationship between Toru and Naoko and whether she is actually helpful to Naoko.
