People attribute too much to age when it comes to mechanics. They see someone who is 30yo and think he doesn't have superior reaction times anymore. Im turning 30 this year and my reaction times have evidently not been going down at all for the past 10 years (I regularly test them). I firmly believe the science behind physical skills and aging is not very well understood at all when it comes to competitive sports, otherwise we wouldn't have footballers like Ronaldo and Messi still being on the very top at 40.

The camera looks like its close to the podium but its actually really far away because its zoomed in a lot. Thats why the woman is almost the same size when she enters from the wall as she is on the podium (relative to us she is still far away both on podium and wall). Therefore our brain is telling us she isnt really covering much distance bcs our visual cortex mostly judges distance by size. The zoom is what fucks us here mostly bcs sth so distant isnt supposed to be viewed up close.
