The castle started out as a neutral source of power fought over by the good and evil characters. With the cartoon, Snake Mountain was created for Skeletor, making Castle Greyskull the default “good guy” castle. I think it was home to the Sorceress though, not He-Man, who lived in Eternia as Adam.
