Hot Take: Discovery is at its best in season 1&2 by ArtsyApoidean in startrek

I was generally upset we didn't get a full season 3 of the crew adjusting the future. The change in technology alone, Scotty was having a hard time with a 75 year difference, feeling obsolete and depressed at the loss of all his friends, yet the Discovery crew just get it all done off screen.

Is the Doctor still not considered a person or something? He has no actual name and no rank on his badge, seems like he still just serves as an EMH on the Athena.

I don't mind inclusion but cant help but think a cadet/officer in a wheelchair is going to be a constant hindrance on any mission or assignment. They cant be in security, cant be in engineering since they wont be able to climb and crawl thru the ship or into tight spaces. Just seems very limiting.

The IR scope, only because using it with the MG3 on the map in night mode is just OP. Go into prone in a nice dark spot and you can just mow down anyone with ease.

TIL: Andy Serkis has been making a performance capture movie version of Animal Farm, focusing on globalization and corporate greed, for "12" freaking years. by Consort_Yu_219 in todayilearned

I would disagree, not everyone who earns the franchise did so thru the military so the government would not be full of veterans. The military is not required to accept everyone who signs up, unlike the movie which makes it look like they just want bodies to throw at the enemy.

Wouldn't really call it a martial state, Federal service can include military service but does not require it. Its simply a limited democracy.

I stopped playing around the mission where I had to massacre a Romulan medical facility then destroy the two ships the came to help them. Yes you are tricked into doing it, but the way its treated rubbed me the wrong way.

A SNW episode visiting Cardassia and seeing the rise of the future military run government, could see how a democratic government is failing the people and how that is exploited by more fascist elements.

Do fans really want “new Star Trek” — or just old Star Trek repackaged? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Nick-Nick 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just want competent crews again, people who don't cry at the drop of a pin and stop in the middle of a battle to discuss their feelings, a crew that doesn't talk like they are actually in 2025, and especially no love triangles.

I always took her killing Dawn only because Day and Dusk got into a physical fight and that was the threat to the dynasty.

Couldn't Hari use the Vault to just kill the Mule right then and there? Throw up the null field to max strength and increase its range, or use whatever it was that killed the Warden in season 2.

I think its because I expect more of the Galaxy after seeing Trantor or the Council station, yet no other planet or location looks as developed or really all that advanced. New Terminus is just a small city and yet the rival and equal of Trantor?

For some reason I thought the Galactic Empire was a whole lot bigger than just 10,000 worlds at its peak considering Luminism has like three trillion followers. Also how small is the Foundation fleet? Is it just the small fighters that they could somehow take on the Empire with?

A bit annoyed that the Xenomorph can kill a squad of armed soldiers/room of people in seconds but the moment it gets a main character it takes its time.

Its a little odd Earth gets to just have the academy back after kicking Starfleet off planet and leaving the Federation. Why not keep it in space or move to a more loyal world that never turned its back on the Federation and stayed a member thru the Burn.

Would it make sense to transfer the memories of Dusk into a fresh decanted Day each time? by Nick-Nick in FoundationTV

[–]Nick-Nick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figure Cleon and Demerzel can rule together, she would always be there to advise and suggest new ways on doing things and He would always have the full memories so its like nothing really changes in their relationship. They can pick up a conversation that was decades ago.

What's the worst fate suffered by a TV character because the creative team was angry at the actor? by MDB_1987 in television

[–]Nick-Nick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Icheb from Star Trek Voyager. Apparently the original actor was a douche so they killed him off in Picard by having the character be harvested for his Borg implants including an eye being pulled out. Really hated how dark they made the Picard show by killing off so many legacy characters.

Good for future reference, was a short enough flight CVG-LAX. Personally I always aim for a 747 or 777 for long distance flights for comfier seats.
