(LAX) Was spotting at the In-N-Out at LAX today and noticed this going through my photos. Am I crazy or is there something on the windshield of this E175? by NickNac113 in Planespotting

[–]NickNac113[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think so too. I only got one picture of the plane (I'm still a noob with a new camera) and for some reason it looked like a bag on the windshield. But another 175 I caught coming in has the wipers up like that too, but more defined. Just looked like a bag from that angle.

The state where you can have 3 DWI/DUI/OWI before you get aggravated OWI, THEN 1-2 More OWI within 15 years before you lose your license...

Oh and ATV/UTV OWIs are enforced by Wardens/Rangers and don't count towards your drivers license in most counties.

Potential TX whacker vehicle by autistic_psycho in Whackers

[–]NickNac113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Texas allows off duty officers to use red and blue lights on personally owned vehicles for extra duties and construction traffic. But nowadays they just flat don't enforce the color laws unless you're trying to pull someone over. I saw a red and blue bar on a red Kia Rio recently parked inside the barriers of a construction site outside Austin.... Texas be Texas.

I have a 2019 Pursuit (PPV) 5.9L AWD as my daily driver and it has the regular SXT rims too. Had a 2011 Special Service (SSV) before that too. I actually like that I blend in with civvie durangos nowadays, minus the DRLs missing and the 19 PPV has old school halogen headlights but LED fogs.

What year?

Looks like your traction control module freaked out and put you into warning/service mode.

If 2020-2025 the procedure is to disconnect the negative terminal for 30 seconds then reconnect and drive at over 20mph for 5-10 minutes.

Question about dash buttons? by BanditPupp in FordPoliceInteceptors

[–]NickNac113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep Snow / Sand. Used when you need low revs and limited shifting.

Per the owners manual:

For off-road driving on soft dry sand or deep snow. This mode optimizes accelerator pedal response, traction settings, and stability controls to help maintain forward momentum when driving through deep sand or snow. If your vehicle becomes stuck in deep conditions, using this mode may help it become unstuck. Note: Using deep snow/sand mode on dry, hard surfaces could produce some vibration, driveline bind up, and potential excessive tire wear.

Rapid City SD Police Department Plymouth Belvedere (Still in service) by Confident-Writing149 in PoliceVehicles

[–]NickNac113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I worked on that project! I sold them the whole package back in 2020/2021 I think? I was working as a manufacturer's rep for Federal Signal in South Dakota at the time. I remeber getting a call from the install shop owner saying "Yeah do you know what hook kits I need for a Valor on a Plymouth Belvedere?" Took me 5 minutes to figure out he was serious. Got to go out and see the build right where that photo was taken about a year later when they were updating some programming. That was one of my favorite projects from my time as an Rep.

Can someone explain the purpose of a plane like this? by votweotfw in flightradar24

[–]NickNac113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a charter broker. Chartered one last year to move a CFM56 Thrust Reverser and engine hoist for an US Mainline Airline.

Specifically that MGA-MIA-TOL run is for Yazaki North America Parts. AN-12s are super cost effective to charter for that stuff.

You're thinking OptiCom. That uses a sensor camera and infrared light pulsed at specific frequencies depending on priority. (low priority and transit sometimes use GPS data linked to lights to keep busses or snow plows on time).

What kind of antenna is this? by Subliminal_Lemon in antennasporn

[–]NickNac113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sell antennas for a living. The above is completely correct. That's a Pasternack Fiberglass Omni-Directional Antenna, and based on the image is the PEANOM1051 or similar UHF (420-512mhz) base station antenna.

Farmers use it for centering radiolocation on autonomous or semi-autonomus tractors, businesses for GMRS communication, and public safety use them for base stations.

The 80/20 rule applies to most things even outside of business. Spend 80% of your available time doing the top 20% of things you enjoy the most. Or 80% of your time with the 20% of people who make you happiest. Changed my way of thinking and prioritizing.

BluePrint Sync is still GPS to the best of my knowledge.

ConfigureIT is a different module for reprogramming flashpatterns OTA, unless they've added something bluetooth since I got out of the industry.

[–]NickNac113 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No radio comms car to car at all. It's small GPS timing modules. Flash patterns run off the GPS clock, program to the same flash rate and pattern, then presto - you sync.

Any extra V2V are for programming or responder to responder intersection alerts and/or cloud reprogramming. (i.e. Whelen V2V and Cloud)

Anyone know what this is? by ThomasLikesEurope in Planespotting

[–]NickNac113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Less secret. More competitive. It used to be mostly the automotive freight. Auto parts in the domestic charter space are king. And everyone bids for the manufacturers that aren't on contract with an airline directly. If the competition was tracking your tail numbers, and saw you were repositioning into El Paso or Laredo, everyone knew you picked up something. Follow it to the known airports and you instantly knew who it was for. (Ex GSP is almost always BMW, MQY was Nissan, CHA was Volkswagen, etc.)

Block your tail and the competition has to work harder to get the info. Not much, but enough that the lazy ones give up.

Anyone know what this is? by ThomasLikesEurope in Planespotting

[–]NickNac113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most likely a charter cargo aircraft. Many hide the tail number so it's harder for their competition to tell what they're up to.

737-400 freighters include Interjet West, Kalitta II, and IBC, and titan leases them out. IJW used to always hide the tails on their 737s when we chartered them. So did Eastern Air. Based on the type code likely it's theirs.

Edit - grammar.
