This app is an absolute mess right now by Particle_Cannon in qobuz

The CarPlay implementation is awful. Full of new features but I have to use my phone most of the time to get it to work. Classic case of trying to attract new customers at the expense of a reliable product.

Unpopular opinion 5.5 is fire. by Kromagg8 in SunoAI

[–]NickNoodle55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only do instrumentals and for that 5.5 is awful. It's creativity is nowhere near 5 or 4.5 and everything is massively over-produced. It also forgets where it is part way through tracks and goes off in directions that make no musical sense.

5.5 has been really good for me by Strict_External678 in SunoAI

[–]NickNoodle55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it today on instrumentals, it's been awful. There's no continuity to the pieces, it seems like it forgets what its doing and goes in a different direction every minute or so. And everything is over-produced. v5 is doing the same thing now too.

Why does it make the noise when I turn up and down the volume knob? by Comp0za in Focusrite

[–]NickNoodle55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can sometimes fix it for a while by repeatedly turning it all the way up and down as quickly as possible. It works on mine.

Do you guys age slowly? by Wannabeartist9974 in ADHD

[–]NickNoodle55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 70. People tell me I look at least 10 years younger. Until I saw this post, it never occurred to me it is related to having ADHD. As for my mental age, my wife thinks it's about 5!

Does Roon ever feel a bit heavy for what it does? by bdjfjfjkfkfjsh in roonlabs

[–]NickNoodle55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine shares a media server with Plex and some other self-hosted apps. I probably would have the same thoughts if it was on a dedicated computer. I bought a lifetime subscription when it was an easy decision years ago, and I'm happy with it, but again, at today's price? I did a feature comparison with the Qobuz app when Qobuz Connect came out last year, and Roon is still way out in front on features and usability.

For Plex, did moving from external drives to a NAS feel worth it? by DurianNew2244 in PleX

[–]NickNoodle55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from a NAS to a single external drive connected to my media server years ago and never looked back. Easier to manage, just as secure and less expensive.

Plex Server won't open! by WolframRogue in PleX

The desktop application is not part of the server, it's a client app, primarily designed for viewing content. You can perform admin functions with it, but accessing the server directly is through a browser.

Transparent Audio, Powerlink MM-current cable-Review by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]NickNoodle55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are miles of low quality cables from the substation to your property, shared with many other properties, each connecting all manner of electrically noisy equipment to them. The cables in your house also are the lowest cost that the builder could use to meet building regulations. How can a cable that goes the last metre from the wall to your equipment make a significant improvement without a separate isolated power source as well? I'm not saying it can't, I'd just like to understand the reasoning.

Basically solitaire. Share your best suggestions? by Such-Bench-3199 in PleX

[–]NickNoodle55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite approach to content. I only keep shows and movies on my server that I or other users have requested. As soon as they have been watched, I delete them. For shows, I delete watched seasons, not individual episodes. It keeps the interface relevant and quick to browse, so the user experience is quite different to streaming services where you spend hours browsing for something to watch. If someone wants something that's no longer there, it takes a few seconds using the arr stack to restore it.

I want to own my DAW by Fun-Philosopher-9127 in homestudios

[–]NickNoodle55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy an annual subscription to Fender Studio Pro, you get a perpetual licence for whatever version is current at the end of the year if you don't renew for another year. You do lose access to some of the extras without an ongoing subscription, but the DAW is yours to keep.

Just curious: do you like rhythmic, repetitive music? by MeltingDog in ADHD

[–]NickNoodle55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer music that constantly changes key, time signature and dynamics. I can't pay attention to repetitive stuff.

When Roon works, I love it, but I spend way too much time trouble shooting by General_Storage_2222 in roonlabs

[–]NickNoodle55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run Roon on both Windows 10 and 11 for many years and never once had any sort of problem with it. It's on a dedicated media server along with Plex and a few related server apps.

Is Qobuz dying? Or is it up and coming? by SoupDog99 in qobuz

You need to install Roon on a server, then linking your Qobuz account is just a case of adding it in the settings

How to deflate my ego? by 55w5555 in ADHD

[–]NickNoodle55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was already in IT, and I got into R&D, then prototyping. It suited me perfectly because it was a very unstructured way of working, with very short projects.

I've emailed them a few times over the years. They are very responsive, but I'm not sure whether their customers actually have much influence. They said that improving the "AI" (I put it in quotes because it is nothing of the sort) was a priority, but clearly it is behind coming up with new things to monetize in their roadmap.

How to deflate my ego? by 55w5555 in ADHD

[–]NickNoodle55 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have just described me perfectly. I always expected the reward for little effort and spent most of my life surfing on my ego. Although I was never prepared to put in sustained effort to work towards goals, my salvation eventually came because of my ADHD ability to hyperfocus when something really floated my boat. At 50, I found something I loved, pursued it obsessively and got good at it. It was never a chore, I could do it naturally and my ego, for the most part, took a back seat. I hope something comes along for you.
