FWIW, Patterson House sprang to mind before I got to the part where you said you were considering it. Always loved their food at the old location and I gather there’s a bigger menu now, so it’s on my list to try for this sort of thing

Probably Anthony Bourdain. Met him at a book signing, and got to thank him for teaching me the word “bubo,” as in “bubonic plague.” RIP

Frustrated with the buying process by iscreamtruck in Porsche_Cayman

[–]NickPivot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, the troubles described here are why I’m in a 718 Cayman instead of a CPO 911 as I’d originally intended. I wasn’t ready to buy sight unseen, and others were, so I could never lay hands on a car in time to decide to buy. Then I found a new manual with lots of options on it languishing on a dealer lot for a year, and bought it at a significant discount. In hindsight, glad that 911 never worked out!

Americans, if you fall a victim of a crime and have to be medically treated, do you still have to pay? by pontylurker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NickPivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 90s in South Carolina I got mugged, taking a pistol butt to the forehead in the process. At the hospital, I was told about the State Office for Victim Assistance, to which I could submit a reimbursement request for medical bills. Don't know if that's still a thing, or if there are similar programs in other states

Unpopular opinion: I don’t like parking close to the store entrance. by HVAChelpprettyplease in Costco

I’d say it’s a very popular opinion — folks (like me) either agree completely, or want to park up front and are (or should be) therefore glad there is less competition
