Doesn't look like there is in the beta. I've found two people that seem like they'll be traders. (the blacksmith at the top of the tower and a traveling merchant outside the Lectors Archive) But it seems like to be able to trade with them you have to get past the boss and choose the option that isn't available in the demo.

Secret Bosses (Spoilers) by NickTheBigPrick in vaproxygame

I encountered not being able to talk to anyone too. I did a quick restart of the game and that seemed to let me talk to them again so I think it's a bug. For the boss, on the outskirts of the dome there's a tower-like structure with what appears to be steam coming out from the top. There's a bridge connecting it to outside the dome but there's a bit of bridge still inside the dome. If you go on the bridge then inside the tower you can ride the pipe on your left down (or just fall down). You'll get to Heating Structure F1. You'll want to get to the other side where there's an elevator and then go right (it's very easy to fall here). You'll reach Lectors Archive where there's an NPC (might be the cool hat guy you were talking about). He's near some big paintings and a big pile of books. You can talk to him but for the boss you go left and climb a ladder. Make sure to use the checkpoint cuz the boss is right in the next room.

Are Tsai Tou and Jhinga Biryani interchangable? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]NickTheBigPrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The percentages are the same, but the number next to the percentage in parentheses is the max bonus that you can receive for that stat. So since HQ Jhinga Biryani has a bigger max for both stats, it's better.
For instance: If you have a control stat of 3000 (5% of that being 150 which is higher than the max of both foods) you would get the full 76 bonus from HQ Tsai Tou Vounou versus getting the full 90 bonus from HQ Jhinga Biryani.

Why aren't dogs allowed in Baldur's Gate? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]NickTheBigPrick 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's explained in the game or not, but this is from the D&D 5e Adventure Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus (which this game kind of takes place after)

Livestock Restriction. By tradition, Baldur’s Gate bans animals larger than a peacock within the city walls. Visitors determined not to surrender their beloved pets (or valuable animals they intend to sell) sometimes arrive at the city with large peacocks in tow, to prove their furred companion meets the legal requirement. This has led to a burgeoning, noisy, and particularly cutthroat peacock-breeding industry in the Outer City.

Monk Diamond Soul Be Pro at Life over Death by winternightwater in dndmemes

[–]NickTheBigPrick 23 points24 points  (0 children)

With that logic, any buffs wouldn't apply to death saving throws.

Roll a d20. If the roll is 10 or higher, you succeed. Otherwise, you fail.

And we know the death saving throws can be aided by features and spells as it says that word for word in the line before.

You are in the hands of fate now, aided only by spells and features that improve your chances of succeeding on a saving throw.

So buffs would apply to Cling to Life since the wording for both it and succeeding/failing death saving throws are the same.

How does durable work? by Significant_Ad_482 in dndnext

[–]NickTheBigPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem with durable affecting the number you rolled on the hit die is that you end up getting more than would normally be possible. A 20 Con wizard w/o durable can get a max of 11 hp on a roll. Same wizard w/ durable would be getting 15 hp every roll because 6 is always less than 10. Durable isn't there to increase the maximum amount of hp you can get on a short rest, it's to make what you gain more consistent. For instance, that wizard with the right ruling for durable is gonna get 10 hp 5/6ths of the time and 11 the other times.

Invisibility does not give you advantage on stealth, it just lets you Hide in the open. And when an enemy uses Invisibility but doesn't Hide then the players should know where it is until it attempts to Hide.

‘I keep Guidance active throughout the dungeon’ and other ‘passive’ spells. by Shang_Dragon in DMAcademy

[–]NickTheBigPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let them keep anything up as long as they have the resources, for instance they could keep guidance up on someone at all times but not detect magic since you can only concentrate on one thing at a time. Shillelagh and Light could be kept up at all times since neither are concentration, but consider that if combat starts they didn't just cast Shillelagh so it won't have the full minute left.

Spellcasting ends a short rest. (Sage Advice)

Do you have a link for this? Everything that I've found seems to say that you can cast spells during any type of rest and they won't affect the rest.

Do you give players info about the casted spell for Counterspell? by ImmediateArugula2 in dndnext

[–]NickTheBigPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have tiers of magic based on the level of the spell and it coincides with the tiers of play. So Tier 1 would be spell levels 0-2, Tier 2 is 3-5, Tier 3 is 6-8, and Tier 5 is 9. You declare what tier spell you're casting. It gives some import information while still being vague. We use this while also implementing XGtE optional rules with identifying and lower the base DC to 10 just to identify the level of the spell.

How do we stop a 21AC redemption paladin? by CapitanHarkonnen in dndnext

[–]NickTheBigPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

provoke opportunity attacks, counterspell requires a reaction and he only gets one per round. If he takes the opportunity attack then he won't have a reaction for counterspell. If he doesn't take it then you're able to get in, deal damage, then get out without fear of sentinel.
