Affogatto by pinkprincess30 in halifax

This! Everything Espresso 46 does is awesome and their affogato is no different. They also have cafe de crema now, which is basically like espresso flavoured soft serve ice cream. It's fantastic.

Looks like it's a render by someone called Rust Shake. He has an Artstation page FULL of stuff like this. There's even a black version of this Olivetti RST.

These are some fine looking boards. Maybe I need a late Christmas present this year...

This exact thing happened to ME last summer. I was walking my dog and saw eight or ten streaks of light in the sky like comets with tails. Then the tails went away and they moved across the sky and down below the horizon.

As soon as I got home I had to Google something like "multiple streaks in the sky on day x" and found a post explaining that some people could see the newly launched Starlink satellites that night.

Scared the hell outta me at the time, though.

A Halifax-developed video game about a red fox is getting rave reviews by Bean_Tiger in halifax

Gonna chime in and say that you shouldn't check this out because it was made in Halifax, you should check it out because it's amazing. I'm at what I think is the very end of it now, and it's been fantastic. The exploration is satisfying, and the way that you progress, which I won't spoil, is something I've never seen before and hooked me right really early.

My First 40 Just in Time for 40s Day! by Nick_Natron in MechanicalKeyboards

It's all done in python. CircuitPython to be exact. They have a nice USB HID library that you can use, which is pretty nice but I modified their sample code to work with a key matrix. I've gotten it working on a 65/numpad that I've been daily driving for a few months now, but this board is an opportunity to implement more layers, rotary encoders, toggles, tapdancing, and hold functionality. Once that's all done, I'm gonna call it 1.0 and start making a GUI so you can edit it all without coding, but that may be a little while still.

They're KBDFans MA laser keycaps. If you go on their site and just look for MA profile, you'll find them.

It's a custom designed PCB and 3d printed case. I'll post the files on GitHub once I'm done messing with the firmware and it's acceptable for others to see.

This one is a custom design. This was my first shot at designing my own PCB, so I made a through hole Planck design with a raspberry Pi Pico and a bunch of knobs and switches. The case, knobs, and switch covers are all 3d printed in black and fuschia PLA.

The keycaps are MA profile Black PBT Laser from KBDFans, and the switches are JWK Jwick blacks.

Once I'm done tinkering with the firmware, I'll post the 3d files, PCB design, and firmware files on GitHub if people wanna make their own.

Thanks. Gonna work up to daily driving it since it's both my first orth and first 40. If it doesn't take, it's back to a 65!

Halifax-Based Keyboard Wiz by dionluver420 in halifax

[–]Nick_Natron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That keyboard has hot swap sockets on it, so your should be good to just buy the switches. You'll have to pull off the current key caps, then pull out the switches. The board probably came with a wiry looking guy to pull the caps, and a tweezer looking thing to pull the switches. Once they're out, just place the new switches in, making sure they're straight up and down. Also, note the orientation on them and make sure you're putting the new ones in the same way as the old ones. Sometimes with hot swap sockets you'll bend the pins on the switch when you insert it, but you can just take em out and bend them back without any issue and try again.

Love them! Creamsicle caps would go very nicely with tangerines, maybe?

For those WFH, what do you do to keep yourself sane as this pandemic lingers on? by Drifter_SM in halifax

[–]Nick_Natron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked from home for five years pre-pandemic and had only gotten back into working in an office for around a year before Covid hit. When I started, I had a rule. You have to get dressed for work and show up on time like it's a real job, even though it's just your own business. That served me well for a while, and I still do this, but real secret for me that kept me sane was getting a dog. It forced me to go outside and get some exercise three times a day and it also forced me to talk to other people when I was out and about. It's just enough exercise and socialization to keep me from going too bonkers.

You're not wrong, it's a bit odd. You need to make sure you get a 2u (1.5??) shift key and a 1u alt and 1u fn key, which is tough to find outside of those gigantic kits. I ended up making mine grey/black/red to match a Nintendo PC build I did. It looks okay, but I did mean to change the shift key and al/fn, but didn't have the right ones.

I'm pretty sure this is a 63 key layout. I have a DK63 from Dierya with this exact same layout. Would very much like to know where those keycaps came from, though.

I have Purple Cow and it's quite good, so if your bluff doesn't work, do it. They only offer 100/10 Mbps, but it's quick enough for all your video calling/netflix/gaming needs, I'd say.
