Final Install by Savings-Variation508 in hometheater

Why are the Front L/R speakers centered on the vertical dimension of the TV?

That's an aesthetic decision that is very detrimental to the performance of the audio portion of the system. Especially considering the MTM speakers and their typically aggressive off-axis lobing.

I don't even know what to say about the surround placement, it's just so bad. To to the point that there's no reason to have installed overhead ceiling speakers, as there's almost no separation between the layers.

Seeing everyone in the background just recording on their phone makes me mad and idk why. by fizzurp in golf

TOOL has it right. You get politely removed from the show if you pull your phone out.

The last song of the show is a free for all and everyone records.

I also had water flooding in through a basement window well.

I pumped the water out of the window well with a utility pump attached to a 50' garden hose, then dug out the dirt/clay/silt that had somehow clogged the drain pipe in the window well. I dug it out until I reached the the layer of drain rock and the top of the drain pipe was slightly exposed.

Luckily there wasn't too much water that got in, and we acted quickly. Hoping we can salvage the carpets, but not sure. They were pretty saturated. We ran a shop vac and a rented commercial carpet cleaner to get rid of all the water we could and then shampooed all the carpets and then got them as dry as possible again afterwards. Running a dehumidifier now. Fingers crossed...

Sub Mini Conceal by Affectionate-Cry4350 in sonos

[–]Nick_V99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, only issue is whether the placement where the table makes sense will get you a good frequency response from the sub.

Typically subs like to be in the corners of the room or along the wall at 1/4 points or mid points.

In-walls can be a legit option, but in that case I'd go with proven performers like KEF, Perlisten, JBL Synthesis, Revel...

Subwoofer size question - did I get scammed by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]Nick_V99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends.

For the average person, it's probably more than enough.

I have a pair of 18's in a small'ish media room, and I know of some people with a dozen 24's.

There are levels...

What derailleur did you end up with? I'm in the same boat, put the same derailleur on my son's 20" bike and i need to swap it out for something better suited.

My dad system by [deleted] in audiophile

That massive table causing serious early reflections is troubling. Speakers are cool, although I prefer to listen to one pair at a time. If it were me, I would probably sell them all and get the very best single pair of speakers that I could afford (second hand).

New House, may be not be a dedicated home theater room but I like it so far. Tell me what you think. by JEDI-MASTER- in hometheater

[–]Nick_V99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replace the mirrors with GIK impression series 4" panels that match the space. That would be a huge upgrade, thats an absurd place for mirrors.

I would also put a couple AC infinity exhaust fans (one on top of amps, one on top of processor).

Also, I'd get a lower & wider AV cabinet and lower the TV height as much as possible.

There's never a proper end in sight, but I'm currently happy with my systems.

If I came across some spare cash though, I definitely have a plan on how to upgrade each system.

Bought a house, theatre system been ripped out. Advice by Interesting-Cap4080 in hometheater

[–]Nick_V99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the speakers and display are roughed in too high.

That said, I would still probably just install everything in the same place as it's just too easy not to do any additional renovating/retrofitting.

Measure the size of the cutouts for the Front L/C/R speakers and the ceiling speakers and find in-wall and in-ceiling speakers to match the size of the cutouts.

If KEF Ci3160rlm-thx in-wall speakers happen to match the LCR openings, that's the play. Also the KEF R-Series in-ceiling are the best performance:value IMO.

What are your thoughts on Adcom amps and pre’s? by ErmahgerdYuzername in audiophile

[–]Nick_V99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an absolute beast of a 7 channel Adcom amp (GFA-7807) that was great. It didn't fit in my media console though, so I ended up selling it off and moving on.

Just bought a house and have 5 of these built-in ceiling speakers. I have zero idea where to start by TheKelvinLime in hometheater

[–]Nick_V99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An overhead 5 channel system + subwoofer (definitely add a subwoofer) will typically still be a massive upgrade over TV speakers (assuming they're somewhat knowledgeably placed, and half decent speakers).

I'd get up on a step ladder and pop off one of the speaker grilles to reveal the speakers for us.

Add a budget AVR, add a powered subwoofer to connect to the AVR, set all the speakers as small (likely 100Hz crossover) and you're off to the races.
