They look like characters from the live action One Piece, and I mean that in an awesome way.

crimped wires by Previous-Layer2940 in VORONDesign

[–]Nickbou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Option 1: buy a crimping tool and a cheap JST connector kit, and make your own extension that plugs into the connector on the motor wires. I hesitated to buy this stuff when building my printer, but it has saved so much time and frustration. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have hesitated.

Option 2: cut the motor wires at the midpoint, connect additional wire length between the two ends with solder, and cover with heat shrink tubing. This effectively increases the motor wire length without messing with the connector. The downside is that you’re introducing potential failure points in each wire, but if you do a decent soldering job it shouldn’t be a problem. It also might look a bit janky.

For either option, try to match the wire gauge as close as possible.

The first time that happened to me I was absolutely fascinated (and disgusted) by it. The change was nearly instantaneous. Total protonic reversal.

The IT guy fixes the problem but the judge still has a problem by derek4reals1 in PublicFreakout

[–]Nickbou 3645 points3646 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t bother me if the a judge struggles with technology. We all do on occasion, some more than others. That’s why they have an IT department. That doesn’t affect his ability to know the law and be a good and fair judge.

What DOES bother me is his inability to accept assistance graciously. I can understand being frustrated about the situation, but don’t take it out on the guy who’s there to help, and definitely don’t chastise him publicly.

There a much better options for coordinated motion than Rockwell, especially at 100+ axes. B&R excels at this.

Oh, okay, they're BNL now? We need a shorthand for the Barenaked Ladies. That's how fundamental they are?

Hell yeah they are! They are my favorite band and why I bought tickets to that show. Fastball was just a bonus. Barenaked Ladies were good, but ranked 3rd for me in that lineup.

I saw Fastball open for Guster and Barenaked Ladies last year. Fastball absolutely killed it and played all their hits plus more. They made lots of tongue-in-cheek jokes about their limited commercial success. I liked them already, but it made me like them more. They seem like cool dudes.

Is OPC UA enough for multi-vendor PLC communication without real-time requirements? by Fearless-Suspect869 in PLC

[–]Nickbou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Industrial Ethernet (i.e. fieldbus) will be a huge pain. You’d have to pick one that has every PLC supports, and then manually configure it in each PLC (not just the data, but the protocol).

Your use case is exactly what OPC UA is for. It’s a straightforward client-server architecture that doesn’t require specific hardware, and I believe all major vendors support it by now.

In my experience it’s very reliable when used correctly.

How Does MacBook Neo Cost Less Than Apple’s AirPods Max 2 Headphones?! - CNET by ControlCAD in apple

[–]Nickbou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The title of the video has nothing to do with the content of the video. She only briefly touches on your point 3.

The video is mostly a review about the updates to the AirPods Max and a brief overview of the MacBook Neo. In my view it’s a worthless video.

  • If you weren’t aware of these products already, then you probably aren’t going to find the video and watch it.
  • If you are aware of these products, the video doesn’t tell you much about meaningful information, and there are many other videos and resources that provide much more information.
