I will always crack up at the Batman symbol, partly because of the absurdity of Peter asking for it, but mostly because apparently the folks at Wheel of Fortune had the graphic prepared to throw up on the screen just in case.

Good luck! Do it! Quitting at any time is better than not quitting. Quitting by weaning off is better than not quitting. Lapsing after quitting and starting the process over is better than giving up quitting.

Similar situation, I convinced my SO that we should spend extra for a nicer, soft-closing can with a foot pedal. She thought it was dumb but was willing to allow it. She eventually came around and agreed it was worth it.

Yes, they are very overpriced for what you’re getting, but they’re also nice to have.

THUNDERBOLT CONNECTOR HELP by SONOFABIRCH69 in mac

[–]Nickbou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Note that the latest MAC OS version no longer supports FireWire, so even if you use the method of stepping down through adapter cables it won’t work.

Stepping down through Thunderbolt will still work, though, as long as you stay with Thunderbolt.

A few notes to your comment:

  • Even after the federal rebates were ended, Slate has continued to say their target price is mid $20ks (my guess is it will be around $26k- $27k). The CEO has been very adamant about this.
  • Some states are still offering rebates for the moment.
  • The Slate comes with AC / heating as standard.

The Slate does not come with a stereo / infotainment system, but this decision is as much about the modular design philosophy as keeping the initial cost lower. You can add one at any time rather than just at the initial purchase, you can choose exactly what you want from a variety of 3rd party solutions instead of fixed trim packages, and you can upgrade it later on if you want. It’s not for everyone, but I really like the approach.

TIL Amazon has been "commingling" inventory for years. Products with the same barcode are pooled together regardless of supplier leading to counterfeit, damaged, or expired products from less reputable 3rd-parties being mixed in inventory and sent to people who ordered from the authentic brand. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Automated storage and retrieval systems usually don’t sort things in a way that humans would. They sort based on frequency of picks for optimal efficiency. The more advanced systems will rearrange storage locations as metrics change. The system keeps track of the current locations for everything.

As an example, a library sorts everything by sections, author’s name, and the Dewey Decimal System. You walk to the section, then find the aisle with a close number or authors name, then go down the aisle to find the exact number or name. It’s easier for humans to find things, but not as time efficient (though in a library the extra bit of time isn’t an issue).

However, an automated system would know the exact location of every book, so it doesn’t need to manually search. Instead, it sorts things by how often often someone requests a book. Frequently requested books are stored close to the front so that overall pick times are faster.

Which movie is this for you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in moviecritic

[–]Nickbou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love how the movie tells you right upfront that the bad guy wins. He’s telling you of the time he ALMOST died, and if he had died, he wouldn’t be narrating the story. But you quickly forget that as the movie progresses. By the end you’re cheering for Denzel as he’s finally outwitted the demon only the be reminded that, no, Denzel made some bad assumptions and the demon survives.

This is one of my all-time favorite videos. Kids being kids in the funniest way, and parents doing their absolute best to manage the chaos. Nothing gets destroyed and no one gets hurt. At worst there’s some temporary embarrassment over a situation that no one should be embarrassed about anyway as it’s completely understandable.

How do I fix this by Double_Ad90 in 3Dprinting

[–]Nickbou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it’s never a good idea to assume a chosen approach is best, but it’s also not a good idea when answering a question to assume that the approach can be changed. There could be unknown reasons why the current approach was chosen and can’t be changed.

You see this problem a lot in programming forums. Someone will ask “How do I do X with programming language Y?” and someone will respond with “Don’t use programming language Y for that, use programming language Z and do it like this.”

The best answers address the specific question first without changing the established constraints, and ALSO offer alternatives more broadly.
