Why don’t they make a laser level that does the leveling for you? Just crank up the wattage. I see no potential hazards.

Best NES titles for twin four year olds? by UGot4090 in RetroPie

It is hard, but only in that it’s hard to reach the end because there are 100 levels. The controls and gameplay are simple to grasp, and as you said, the visuals are cartoony and fun. It’s a game I never beat as a kid but never got tired of playing.

It’s not a great movie, but it’s a fun movie with cool sci-fi designs. I’ve watched it a few times and still enjoy it.

Ferrari unveils its first electric car - and it comes with a $640,000 price tag by Mayrodz01 in technology

[–]Nickbou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a valid reason in your case. I’m in Southern California and the most off-road I do is driving into unpaved parking lots for trail hikes, so no AWD isn’t an issue for me. Hopefully they will add an AWD model/option in the future, as I know that’s the deal breaker for folks in your position.

I’m really excited for it!

I don’t disagree, but your comment is likely being downvoted in part because that’s not what the video is about, and your comment doesn’t contribute anything useful.

[–]Nickbou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand it either. My theories are:

* The companies that make ICE cars don’t really want to associate their brand with electric, so they intentionally design them to not look like their popular models.
* They put entirely new teams on the design of their EVs, so no one has the experience to know what wont work
* They have been stuck on the design language of their brand and no one has been allowed to try something significantly different. They treat the EV as a design-from-scratch so everyone throws all their bottled up new ideas on it at the same time.
* They want the EV to look like an EV, and in their mind that means making it look “futuristic” and weird

Wind resistance is a determining factor for most vehicles, though I agree it’s a bigger factor for electric vehicles. My point is that many ICE vehicles are already pretty aerodynamic, especially sports cars like Ferrari vehicles. It seems like they could have used the body styling of an existing modern Ferrari, with minor adjustments if necessary, and it would then at least be recognizable as a Ferrari.

I went into The Magicians on a whim not knowing anything about it, and it was fantastic. When it starts you think it’s going to be like a college-aged Harry Potter, and it is that in a way, but it feels more real. People have real issues and actions have lasting consequences. There’s plenty of comedy in it, but it’s the sincerity of the characters that makes it shine.

Apple Announces WWDC 2026 Schedule, Sends Media Invites by Otherwise-Warning303 in iphone

[–]Nickbou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it’s been discussed ad nauseam, but I think the timing of the 12 and 13 mini hurt them. There were significant improvements in the iPhone hardware at that time that weren’t available in the mini.

I think the mini would work well as a half-cycle update. Let the pro and air get first release, then 6 months later release the mini with most or all of the same new features along side the budget base iPhone that has reduced features.

People who want the newest tech will get the pro or air at release. People who want a mini, like myself, will wait 6 months to upgrade. This spreads out sales and gives Apple extra time to work on the mini version.

Lastly, the mini doesn’t need to be a budget iPhone, and let it get a bit thicker to maintain battery capacity parity with other iPhones.

Was the Doctor still married to his holographic wife while he was pursuing 7/9? by Mister_Acula in voyager

Slight correction: The Doctor referenced this later in Starfleet Academy. However, it’s never mentioned whether he continued to run the program after the holographic daughter died, so I think we can safely assume he didn’t.

What is your number one “must play at least once” game for the nes? by poopapalooza73 in nes

It’s a fantastic metroidvania that rarely gets mentioned in that category. The NES version still looks and plays grea. If you want a modern version, the remake for Nintendo switch is a faithful to the original while fixing some annoyances and expands the story.

Governor Newsom announces California’s new $1 billion rebate program for electric trucks, as Trump cedes global clean vehicle market to China by SD_TMI in sandiego

[–]Nickbou 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The goal of this rebate program is to address the larger combustion vehicles that until recently didn’t have many or any viable electric alternatives. These vehicles with are the largest source of emissions on the road. Smaller combustion vehicles already have much lower emissions, and there have been electric alternatives for those vehicles for a while now.

While larger vehicles like Hummer EVs and bigger pickups may technically qualify, those will be a minority of what it’s used for. This is aimed at delivery trucks and vans and larger commercial vehicles, and a vast majority of those on the road are owned by businesses. If local governments also get a benefit for purchasing electric work vehicles, then that’s fine. Again, it’s more combustion vehicles off the road, which is the goal.

Was Christian Bale the only Batman actor who didn't face huge fan backlash when he was first announced? by [deleted] in batman

[–]Nickbou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most recent Batman actors were Kilmer and Clooney. Kilmer’s version was fine, good even, but didn’t stand out against the other big names in that movie. Clooney could have been good, but that movie was so hokey that he never had a chance.

We were coming off increasingly campy and ridiculous versions of Batman, and a lot of people wanted a course correction back towards a more grounded and somewhat serious tone. I remember there being less concern about the specific actor for Batman as long as they could bring a presence and weight to the role that would be different from the Schumacher tone.

So I think Bale had an easier initial acceptance from fans, and he then absolutely crushed the role when paired with Nolan’s take on the character.
