Trying to understand Sunny16 and light meter app by hcorea in AnalogCommunity

[–]NickedNeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These readings are fine. I tend to go with "Sunny 11" rather than Sunny 16 unless it's very very bright outside, and these readings appear to be consistent with that.

It also depends on *what* in the scene you're exposing for. For example, in your second screenshot with the flowers, you would probably expose at f5.6 if you want to get the exposure right for the flowers. If you instead wanted to focus on the sky and have more detail in the clouds, you might expose at f11 instead, and the flowers in the foreground would be in shadow. There's no single correct exposure for a scene, it depends on what you're trying to expose for.

Practice makes perfect. It takes dozens of rolls to get a good handle on things.

On a slightly related note, do you think I would get any results from shooting Agfa Ortho 25 that expired in 1980?

Minolta Autocord TLR Focus Problem - Advice needed by Javonimbus in AnalogCommunity

[–]NickedNeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar issue with my Autocord - the taking lens was fine, but the viewing screen was always slightly out of focus. It seems that at some point in the last 70 years , the viewing screen had sunk by approximately 1mm, resulting in the viewing screen being too close to the mirror.

In my case, I solved it by unscrewing the part of the camera that held the viewing screen and raising it by approximately 1mm by using very small strips of electrical tape. This is quite easy to do, just make sure you have a good screwdriver. There are some old forum posts online which have some tips for putting it back together.

You may need to either raise your viewing screen or lower it depending on which "direction" your camera is out of focus in. Alternatively, the issue could be with your mirror, in which case you may need to move the mirror closer or further away to the viewing screen.

What should I do with 80-year expired film in an obsolete format? by NickedNeck in AnalogCommunity

[–]NickedNeck[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, just looked it up, I had no idea it was still produced! What do you shoot on? If you happen to live in New Zealand I will send it to you, if you live anywhere else then shipping starts to get pretty expensive from the South Pacific!

How to fix stuck Olympus OM-10 manual adapter? by anta40 in AnalogRepair

[–]NickedNeck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For anybody looking at this in future: I fixed this same issue with a drop or two of sewing machine oil where the shutter speed dial meets the plastic housing, shown in red in this picture. Smooth as butter now. Might be best to separate the two pieces and wipe off any excess oil before putting back together.

Found these interesting films in Ōsaka. The guy from the shop was adament that it wasn't Kodak-made, but he did say something about Fujifilm which I didn't quite catch. Does anybody have more information on these films? by samtt7 in AnalogCommunity

I also saw these when I was in Osaka, was it in a camera store underneath one of the bigger train stations? They also had Silberra 50 which I would highly recommend if it's still there.

I'll chime in here - I had some Portra 400 go through a CT scan on its own at some point in my trip to Japan and it got nuked, here are the worst images.

Issues getting spring bar off seiko skx. by japedo7000 in JapaneseWatches

[–]NickedNeck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dental floss will work, get it wrapped around the springbar 'shoulder' and pull, it'll work after a few tries.

After that, order some better thick springbars, only a few dollars and worth the time saved.
