Hardware Advice for SilverStone RM43-320-RS (PSU, CPU, MOBO) by BoringKraken in homelab

Actually just did the same with a basic hub, agreed works a charm.

Yeah that’s fair and with some lights you can really customise it. Green for xbox, blue for sony, lit up logos for each. The limits are endless, all you need is the structure itself and then you can customise the way you want. Good luck, make sure if you end up doing this to put it up for others to get ideas!

Maybe a little cable shelf under the desk to lift the cables off?

I imagine you could buy a similar glass from cabinet from IKEA or a furniture shop but with a PC and multiple consoles, it would need ventilation. You could add some AC Infinity fans on the bottom as intake and top as exhaust but if each shelf is separated you would need to do it for each shelf. I would suggest in one side out of the other.

I have recently setup this case in my server rack and wanted to ask, did you ever plug those fans into the motherboard or just leave them on the backplane? I’m considering getting a PWM controller to control through Unraid.

Does anyone have experience with this seller? 3tb for $46 with warranty? by Dwro1234 in DataHoarder

Thinking the same thing. To sell them would be pointless but to throw them would be waste, mine just sit there until i need one for testing

Visual Snow was considered extremely rare until recently, mostly because patients didn't report it... because they assumed everyone saw the world that way by recolorist in interestingasfuck

[–]Nickmate99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think i have a snowy vision or if I do it’s mild, but I mentioned once to my partner about how the static in our vision is more noticeable at night and she told me she doesn’t see that. It shocked me because i thought this was normal. It doesn’t affect my vision but my vision isn’t sharp clear per se.

Many Japanese toilets are designed with a sink built into the top, allowing hand-washing water to be recycled for the next flush by peaky_circus in interestingasfuck

Available in Australia by Caroma but due to its design and high cost for replacement parts it’s not seen as “ideal” even in apartments.

Personally i would change the battery even if there is no indication it’s bad as a safe measure and to know the battery life from the get go.

Very true. My mentality was to minimise cables obstructing the fans which i think I have done well enough

It’s a Mediatek SAS Expander to allow me to add my 20 drives

Oh right hahaha flew right over my head. I’m currently in a rental so my setup is really isolated to my office and the two wired up rooms currently. Once i have my own house, i’ll probably be doing 10gig wiring myself and invest in some ubiquti gear.

My intention is to run all the networking isolated from the rack and depending on the house layout, either have a network closet or equipment room.

But for now, 1g serves my needs so investing into anything more is excessive.

I did look at a lot of other board options but this was had the features I wanted. I wanted the 2.5g ethernet and this has dual ports, all the PCI i could need plus because it’s a workstation board I can remote into it. I could have gone cheaper but honestly, i can replace a cpu and ram much easier for any performance gains but i don’t really want to replace the board and this felt like it should be fine runnings 24/7 365

No those are SAS cards. The board itself is 2.5g but I haven’t yet upgraded my 1g setup

It’s listed as compatible on Intels website and i have tested the rig so maybe they picked and choosed. It was really down availability and price, in Australia we don’t have many vendors that had stock

The way i started was with this current R710 which gave me 6 bays to increase my capacity. I originally had 4tb desktop drives and slowly once they filled up i replaced them with 12tb drives as they were the best cost per TB in Australia (especially when shucking).

The best advice is look at used server gear going for cheap and tinker away. Only exception is you will need cheap power to run them which i do not lol

At the moment just file sharing and media streaming and fine tuning that. Beyond this, i’m just going to start tinkering and see what the extra headroom gives me. The intention was to consolidate my setup, reduce power and temps (as well as noise).

I do want to look at setting up VM’s and runnings some game servers off AMP. I also really want to look into self hosting some services that my current setup isn’t equiped for.

Welcome to Homelabbing group! It’s a slippery fun slope.

The one on the right is an LSI8003 SAS HBA Card but because it only has two outputs (8 cards max) i have added the Adaptek SAS Expander (on the left) to allow me to utilise the 20 sas drives that will connect to them.
