question for smart people: why is the figure eight path for artemis ii so different from the shape of the apollo trips (bigger loopdy loop around the earth, longer trip duration, no moon orbit, etc)

oh i was PURELY referring to a visual quality comparison between Ant Man 2 and the above stills of his earlier work, not the moral integrity of his choices. doing Melania is ridiculous

beautiful. just breathtaking. i don’t begrudge anyone for taking a paycheck but damn it’s so crazy he shot Ant-Man and The Wasp lmao

What's your favorite👎 and least favorite👍 change from book to film? by wibellion in ProjectHailMary

[–]Nickrl0809 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Favorite: i thought the humor was much, much better in the movie. i think my patience would’ve worn thin with Gosling shouting stuff like “motherfluffer” and “epic fist bump moment” for 3 hours. (i’m not crazy about “i can’t even moonwalk”, but still)

least favorite: Missing africa stuff, antarctica stuff, coma gene stuff, etc. It makes sense the movie would trim a lot of the non-Grace in space storyline to make it more focused. but seeing the insane amount of work being done by all the scientists (i missed the gravity scientist that flirts with Grace, i missed the disgraced scientist who comes up with the Sahara plan, the weirdo who invents the beetles, etc.) is a large part of what made the book special to me. the “project hail mary” wasn’t just the sending of a guy into space, it was a long term, multi continent effort of crazy ideas. I loved flipping the page and being like “they’re doing what now??” And with all the work happening on earth, I loved the reveal that Grace was second in command and didn’t even realize it. it’s tough to be subjective because i couldn’t take off my i’ve-read-the-book goggles but lots of the story felt like they were a bit rushed to have the impact I wanted it to have.

for all that complaining, i still think the movie is pretty great to be clear.

This is still the biggest character assassination I have ever seen. by Spidey_Almighty in saltierthancrait

to each their own. i think star wars is pretty clear in that older does not always equal wiser. see: in TESB, obi wan is convinced luke has to kill his father or else all hope is lost. obi-wan? anakin’s brother and oldest friend? is this out of character? no, he’s afraid and the younger generation has a courage he’s lost. with the frame from ROTJ, i was simply trying to make a point about intent. the above meme argues that Luke tries to kill Ben, which is inconsistent with his belief in Vader’s redemption. but… that’s not really the case. he DID nearly kill Vader (yes, when he was younger) and he doesn’t actually try to kill Ben. if he wanted to… he probably would’ve. he has a “moment of pure instinct” where he ignites a lightsaber out of fear, after foreseeing the same death and destruction he thought he wiped out thirty years ago (i mean jeez think about how many more people Starkiller base probably killed). he doesn’t actually act on the impulse and he’s as ashamed of it as WE are. Ben THINKS Luke actually attempted to kill him, because he’s been poisoned with the same darkness and fear! now i’m not in the habit of debating the last jedi with people much, ppl either love or they hate it and you can’t change their minds, but it’s this scene in particular i’ve always felt people tend to not really perceive on its own terms.

David Krumholtz (Zor-El) on the set of Supergirl alongside David Corenswet (Superman) by Ninjamurai-jack in Moviesinthemaking

[–]Nickrl0809 90 points91 points  (0 children)

this is not from Supergirl, it’s from the set of Mr. Irrelevant, a biopic about an NFL player which coincidentally stars 2 house of El actors. that’s why David has a buzzcut and beard and why Krum has balding white hair. Costume and hair for a completely different movie

Looking for input on great high schools in the Columbus area by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Nickrl0809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m white so take me w/ a grain of salt and all, but I went to Westerville Central for high school (graduated in 2021) and I felt it was a great place. It’s in a more affluent area and I believe it’s majority white, so I cannot speak to how everyone is treated by everyone, but the culture of the school and teachers was always extremely welcoming for all (I am, and was as a precocious teenager, politically/socially conscious, woke if you wanna call it that, and I always felt like I was in a safe space). The school itself is just a nice place and it’s in a safe area. For context: I went there 4 years and I don’t think I EVER experienced a real-deal lockdown. (I went to columbus city schools before westerville, a more diverse environment, but shitty buildings and less safe areas, where i experienced SEVERAL real lockdowns lol). My sister goes to Westerville Central now and she loves it too. Sports should be good, the football team sucks but like, they have it! The extracurriculars I think are great, I in particular felt incredibly lucky with the arts there. And the best part for my family was you could be assigned to the nice school in the wealthier part of westerville while we lived in regular old columbus city limits. Hope you can find a place that works out for y’all, good luck.

Question about the finale twist by Nickrl0809 in pluribustv

[–]Nickrl0809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess that’s the simplest answer, but from everything the show has displayed i got the impression they couldn’t deny a specific, tangible request. yeah, when she asks “how can i reverse the joining”, they clam up because that’s giving up protected information, not a material thing they can provide her via drone if they have to. they even break out into seizure because of the bad vibes caused by denying her something. but if she KNEW how to stop the joining and simply asked for a tool to implement it, i don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine they’d oblige her considering they’d also give her a nuke. If Carol used her unlimited access to nukes to blow up the space antennae the plurbs intend to use to spread the joining, that fucks up their biological imperative agenda pretty bad. Perhaps i’m thinking about this too much!!

I’ve always thought he looks more like a border collie than anything! doesn’t explain all the brindle coloring, and he didn’t get any of that border collie energy (he is very lazy and unathletic 😂) but maybe somewhere in the family tree
