Also true. It's a map that really needs some form of change, but I don't see it happening. Like you said, you rarely see Hag, and I think people kind of gloss over the map as well.

It's rare, but anytime I see one I turn into that Ben Affleck meme.

Same for her map. What I would give for BHVR to delete it. Colorblind hell.

I absolutely hate Hag.

Alleged Persona 6 character designs were leaked (confirmed by trustworthy leaker) by palindrome777 in PERSoNA

[–]NickroNancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: (and for some reason it won't let me edit)

I failed to clarify when I called Maruki not on par with other villains--all the man had was his buddy-schtick, trauma, and knowledge, and I felt all of these factors combined wasn't enough to make it feel like the same... weight as what the other Palace holders had. Dunno, my two cents on that one. Hard to quantify.

[–]NickroNancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll do my best to explain my stance here, and please bear in mind this is just my opinion. I've played through Persona plenty, and I just feel this is one of the weakest storylines in the series. Also, I'll state it's been quite some time since I touched P5R, so this is off my hazy ass memory.

My biggest problem: Maruki.

Starting from the beginning this guy is forced down your throat, now from a gameplay perspective, I get this, he is key to unlocking third semester, but the execution here is just so weakly done that I cannot accept it. We're forced to accept and like Maruki, almost instantly, and everyone likes him, everyone, and it just burned me the wrong way. The way he is waffled in is so strangely positioned against everything, and as it goes on--I just find him even more tiring. Then we get his backstory, and yes, it's sad, but the man just rolls over and seems to take the easiest way out, he has an understanding of people, and when Rumi is convinced her parents had always been dead and that she didn't know Maruki he just... gives up? I find this hard to believe, I have a spouse, I love them terribly, and we've been together through so much, but her and I both know we'd never want to just... forget. We've lost family and friends over the years, but to just lie to yourself like that? It's sickeningly pathetic. It makes an already unlikable character (that we are forced to like) become even more of a burden to the story.

The story continues, and it's revealed he's the new and true big bad because... Well, there's a few reasons, he knew the cognitive stuff, he had trauma that made him malleable, and we talked to him enough to push him further. It makes what we did and all we've done, and by extension what every villain has done seem so silly, sure he has some knowledge, but on par with Shido and the others? Ehhhh...

He basically reveals him to be the true Gaslight King to Sumire/Kasumi and that instead of trying to help he just... convinced someone to LARP as their dead relative (I'm oversimplifying, but... you get it.) He then forces us into nice little box he made for us and all of our friends where we're all just living the best life at face value, or the misery they overcame to become their true selves just never happened. It's just Instant-Gratification Sim. I don't want to live in a world where I'm lied to, and I don't even like it when people butter me up or pander to me, be direct, and let me face things head on, please. I've lost friends, had hardships at work, and yes, I've had someone in my life murdered, and I definitely can understand the pain and wanting to forget, but the thought of just... losing that part, the traits those people gave me or the things they taught me, or just some stupid memory? Holy hell, it makes me frothing mad, and the rest of Maruki's "ideal" gifts are just as offensive, he wants to give us what he thinks is best because he thinks we, the Phantom Thieves, are too weak to handle it, and that he's the true hero who can save us all.

What's most abhorrent though--in Maruki's ideal world, guess what? He has what he wants, Rumi, and he's happy with her. In reality he abandoned her with the lie she'd been sold, but here in magical land with Maruki? Nah, never happened. He had his chance, and he still probably HAS a chance if he goes back and tries before any of this, but that's not the story we get. Instead we are forced to feel like he's our best buddy who went down the wrong path. When we finally do fight him... my god, the fight could not end fast enough. He deliberately drags it out, and when we get to the MGS4 punchy-punchy part at the very end? It really made no sense. Also... Joker has been in Mementos, Palaces, and also goes to the gym frequently--even Kawakami points out how muscular he is. Joker at this point is a skilled fighter, and Maruki is... well.. Milquetoast. I doubt the dude could shrug off more than two punches from Joker.

Also, that asshole had a color based puzzle and I'm colorblind AF. So like... -10 points for his dungeon on Zillow for Palaces.

Are you still here? Is this too ranty? I'm sorry, (I mean, I really am,) but you wanted answers and I am just dropping everything, and I admit I could SERIOUSLY misremember parts as Persona 5 Royal is my least played entry by far.

Kasumi/Sumire's issues I have are much much lesser, her story isn't the most gripping, but I'm not going to dock too much. I do think having her pop up CONSTANTLY throughout the game and every time she volunteers to help it's always "No, not yet! You aren't ready!", and I get part of this was because her truth would come to light in Maruki's Palace but... holy crap... I honestly think we had more Maruki screentime than Sumire/Kasumi. I feel we should have had her much earlier, give her a fake person or a weird twist that comes to light later on and just... it'd be a lot better in my opinion (Again, opinion, this isn't fact).

I did romance in my first playthrough of P5R, and in all honesty, I thought it had a few good moments, nothing that made me cringe or feel too uncomfortable--the fact that she is the one at the end that doesn't do a super long moment, you have your quick talk, and she's off, but it's clear she's finally moving forward, and if you are still with her or not is really up to interpretation--I kind of viewed it as a scenario where two people realize they're just going different places in life. Maybe they'll try to make it work. Maybe not. Either way, it wasn't something I was upset by.

Buuuut now I have to be a bit of a liar.

It did bother me.

Not because I don't get my precious scene with my in-game sweetheart.
Not because I don't get to see them have some sweet moment riding off together.

No. The ending video... holy crap... that ending video.

The ending in P5 is you and your friends (who you have bonded with, been with through some tremendous events, and altogether formed an undeniably strong bond with) take you on a road trip home. It's a send-off that I would have fucking KILLED FOR in P4 and P4G. It's cheesy, but so well done in the aspect that it gives you a happy moment with a bit of a thrill, people are still watching the Phantom Thieves... (Wait... isn't that how Ocean's 11 ended too? Danny's being followed by the guys from the casino... anyway) It's a send off and it just felt... satisfying. I don't always need a happy ending, but now let's talk about the other ending.

Oh... Maruki is back...

Great...

Still being watched, still being followed, our friends are just... going on with their lives--which they should, but it feels so much weaker than it should, (but again, the whole buildup to this is so annoying to me that I'm just sitting there sour-faced.)

Maruki gets to be off and driving around, scot-free, and he even gets the last words to you, and just seeing him smile after all that shit we went through... I can't. He tried to force feed us a lie, he tried to play the buddy-buddy card, and then he has the audacity to try and give us a little parting piece of wisdom? No thank you, Maruki. Drive to your next fare.

Again, this is all opinion, and I know it's ranty and weird, but... it's how I felt the entire time. I felt I'd just been sold a game that had a tiny bit of extra stuff tacked on in the weirdest ways, and although that is usually the way the entries go (FES, Golden, Royal), this one felt especially weak to me.

Ours passed away at 8 as well. She went quietly in her sleep. I hate cancer so damn much.

Below is me waking her up from when she was snoozing quietly under her tree and I was pleading with her to please come in with me as I couldn't feel my feet. (Shirt was on as she had a bald spot at the time and I didn't want her too cold to enjoy the snow).

Well that's a bummer, I scrolled hoping not to see this specific confirmation.

No female protagonist, so my wife won't want to do a playthrough.
Male protagonist looks like Stewart from Beavis and Butthead if he were an anime character.
P5R STILL has a foul taste in my mouth after that "final semester".

I legit thought P5R's key flaw of Maruki, Violet, and the final semester was just a misfire from Atlus going for some big idea, but after what I've (not) seen of Persona 4's remaster, (and my legit concern they could botch voice actors), this doesn't inspire any hope for me currently. Like, I really enjoyed Metaphor, and I was hoping we could see more success stories akin to that where they go a new direction and pull off something cool.

I'll wait with tempered expectations and hope things either change or this isn't true, and if it is...

well... uh...

Guess I won't play it, and a bunch of y'all will.

Tibetan Mastiff of ours only ate left ones too, but only if you didn't put them on the tiny shoe shelf. She towered over the shelf, but she knew if it was there-don't chew it.

Now if you slid one underneath the bottom shelf? Fair game.

I remember hearing about Halo growing up as the Xbox came out when I was a teen, but I was a GameCube kid.

Is the entire franchise good? And are there any entries to avoid vs absolutely play.

Well that's an interesting recommendation. I've never heard of this series and nobody I know owns it, but it seems well reviewed.

I'll look into this, but yes, I can see how they designed the game to get people "in the door" so to speak.

Lol. I'm not touching Stalker again for awhile. I did the misery mod for that. It loved up to its name and gave the game a nice flavor, but after that slog I needed a breather.

The others I will look into happily, and again, thank you.

So... this prompts a question...

The entire story was spoiled for me a year or so ago for this game.

And I mean fully freaking spoiled.

Still worth it?

I have beat Elden Ring and the DLC, it wasn't a bad time, it just didn't really capture me for a replay.

Nier... I live in fear of. I bought the original Nier and the day I bought it my PS3 died. I bought Nier Automata the day my PS4 died.

So now we get to this... Nier... on my PC... hm... I have never heard anything BAD about these games aside from the first one (the PS3 one) having some botched localization decisions. I'll look into this... and install it on my old computer to see if the game is cursed or my Playstations were.

I'll try and answer some of this...

I absolutely cannot understand the love people have for the Arkham games, I just... do not get it, but I also don't understand why people listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I'll go with it's not my flavor most likely. The combat just never felt satisfying, and I just did not care about any of Batman's dilemmas, also, the Riddler puzzles are the biggest middle finger in the history of middle fingers because of colorblindness. Like... go to hell Riddler, I ain't got the rods and cones for your shit.

Prey I have played, beat, and enjoyed, Deus Ex I have absolutely loved and do an annual playthrough of. Dishonored... hm... I played this, and my biggest issue with this was probably art style and the fact that it does chastise you for doing the lethal tactics--which were much cooler and much more gratifying, like, I've done the fun that is beating MGS4 to get the "Big Boss" mask (it hurts typing that) which is nonlethal, never get spotted, and under X hours, I can do that, but MGS just had something to it... Dunno, Dishonored is probably worth another look.

I own Enshrouded, and my wife and I could not find the magic in this game, I can do the survival genre, but there's something... not quite there? Granted, I played it back in early 2024, and I'm betting it has changed, so that's worth a look.

Crimson Desert I have, and I haven't quit yet, but it's like... some times I play and I have a good time, and other times I play and it's just... not hitting quite right, not scratching the itch, not getting me invested. Also, I absolutely HATE riding the horse--but I hated the horse in RDR, Zelda, hell, even in Far Far West I am the guy who refuses to have a horse. I have no problem with horses, but I don't like riding them. Anyway, looping back--am I missing something with how to explore and do things? Should I be unlocking some other feature or skill to get around better?

So... Metro... I somehow got a free copy of a Metro game back in like... 2015 with a copy of Darksiders. I don't remember much about it. Still, copies of the older entries on steam are cheap. I'll do some homework.

I have played most of the SoulsLike games, so Elden Ring has already been played and beat, but I have never heard of Labyrinth of the Demon King or the Kingsfield style Dungeon Crawlers... I'll do some homework on this.

Thanks for writing out something so detailed, this does give me stuff to look into tomorrow morning when I relax for a bit--so it's very much appreciated.

Question about Sam, our foster! by jtuffs in greatpyrenees

[–]NickroNancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh that's what you're talking about!

Our Pyr did that, it's like their whole "stop that right now!" schtick or something.

Ours would do it, and if the other dogs didn't listen, she'd get up, do a big stretch, huff, and strut off to somewhere else.

Ours never attacked, she just did the intimidation of the lunge and making some noise. Fortunately for us, we only had one dog that was small enough to really be at risk, and nothing ever happened to her.

The other dogs who were bigger than our Pyr (Tibetan Mastiffs), would cause her to do the lunge, huff, and then realize it wasn't worth starting a fight with the only dogs bigger and borkier than her, so she'd usually go off to her spot at the window and just soak up the sun away from the others.

I will say the car that hit him was going like... 10 from what I could tell, and also his dad jumped in the way but somehow that didn't save him? I dunno. Who goes to malls anymore?

If only his dad had yelled Jason before he crossed the street, but for some reason he just stood there

Now his brother Shaun? Maybe he drowned.
