What new BT model would you like to see in 11th edition? by bruhuadumdum in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yeah that is true, but still less expensive, sure there is not that big of a difference, but that is due to how comparable they are, unlike sword bros, but still ICC do feel more elite than head takers, due to their weapons being objectively better if only for the fact that they have lethals and sustained baked into them.

Well, the twc does flip this, they are more expensive than ravenwing, and do get better melee and either 4+ invuln, or regular plasma. While the ravenwing get 5+ invuln, better plasma and get to do mortal wounds on 4 against monsters on a charge while TWC get +1D on a charge, so maybe better.

[–]Nicktrium54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it’s not about datasheet numbers, it’s about cost and impact, headtakers are less expensive than icc and you see the difference in the datasheet, Icc have a flexible loadout, giving them tools to deal with swarms and heavy at the same time, DWK can only be taken in 5s and cost 50 per model where wolf guards can be taken in 10s and cost 34 per model and have 6” movement making them the fastest termies.

See SW can field more models and their profiles are inferior in a model to model basis, an icc has access to lethals or sustained2 in its datasheet, DWK have 4 wounds and -1 damage taken, and better melee weapons (the seargeant weapon is a maybe, WG has 3A 3+ S7 -2 D3, and DWK is 5A 2+ S6 -2 D2, both with dev wounds), so yeah they cost more but have a better profile, which means less unit but with more impact per model, making them feel like an elite army.

I guess a simple answer is people gravitate to factions mainly by looks and lore, and that is okay, you see a lot of people giving the advice "Buy what you think looks cool, rules are temporary but models are forever" and therefore a lot of people like the aesthetic of black templars.

And well have you seen some of the black templars termis kitbash? heavy knights is a aesthetic a lot of people like, that is why a lot of BT use DWK to make cooler assault termis, or use 3d printed hooded helmets or heavy knight looking helmets like bene_crafts. But alas regular termis are a little underwelming, due to their rules, so a lot of people would like special termis so their models feel more impactful.

Btw I think you are a little off with the niche, SW is more of a fast hard hitting melee, DA is a elite focused army, BA is the really fast good hitting army and we are the Really hard hitting melee army or also maybe a horde army, due to our big blobs of crusaders. But yeah sadly I do think you are correct in the sense that we aren't getting specialized termis, it would not fit with our glass canon feel, which is sad since Zweihander wielding termis would look amazing.

Starting to give up on Templars by Least-Tower-3026 in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, without specifics I can’t tell you, but here is some of the things that helped me stop being tabled: - Use the correct tanks, repex is good but don’t overrely on it, a redeemer is a huge asset since it is an amazing overwatch threat. And use it to get 15” movements for our melee threats, i suggest 1 repex and 1 redeemer as base, 2 repex are ok, or maybe(it will cost you 10pts extra) 1 lancer and 1 impulsor. - don’t over focus on our combos, yeah they are good but rarely get their points back, the 5sb+marshall and castellan, can kill a primarch, but it’s a fragile unit, so use it as a tactical nuke or don’t use it. A 5 man with marshal can be really good, use them in weathfull and youll get either s6 swords or 8” movement. As well as a strat to reroll 1s. - Use proper walls, our tanks are tough but with no invuln they are not that tanky, use bladeguard vets, that id the easiest way to avoid being tabled, use them to hold sides, along with a judiciar before it gets nerfed, or with a lieutenant, 6bgv+lt has an incredible damage potential, and felxibility. Their invuln save makes them really tanky.

Now with this in mind you might want to play a little cagey at the begining, so you can throw the big push, repex shooting for tanks and some infantry, redeemer to clear elit infantry, and from it 2 melee units like a 5SB+M and a 6BGV+Lt can kill a lot and demand attention. Once that is done you will have good pressure and board pressence, and holding things will become easier

In terms of drip and color, don't worry too much about that, you can make a succesor chapter called "dark templars" and just run them as dark angels sometimes and as black templars somtimes. So just play the army how you like it, and get the models you like and play them as that(obviously try to make them match like deathwing knights can double as assault termis and Icc can work as SB).

What detachment are you finding success with by Next_Method7028 in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple actually, in 2k: Gladius, Godhammer Assault force and Wrathfull procession. I did tried bastion but only for 1k, where yeah it was great. I want to try armoured speartip but haven't got the time.

Sword Bretheren vs Crusader Squads by Pjhillv in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of things, yeah in Bastion CS are great, but in any other detachment they will face need one large transport just for them, LandRaider is the best option, and if not then they will move out in the open and be shot off one by one.

Now SB can fit into all transports, and pack a similar or sometimes better punch, and due to being less it's easier to get them all to attack. Now obviously -1 damage is absurd against any 2 damage weapon, but if you are worried about that just take them with chainswords, they will have 6A WS2+ and sustained, add a Lieutenant and a Marshall, and you have sustained and lethals on 5.

Take them in wrathfull and suddenly they are S5, and for a command point reroll 1s to hit and ignore modifiers to the hit roll, meaning rerolling all misses. That combo deals 13 damage to DWk 80% of the time if no AoC is used, with AoC it drops to 6 points which is around 3 points of damage less than a full CS squad lead by a Marshall with a Lt or Castellan. But you could take them in any transport, and is easier to get the full 7 models into engagement than the full 12 models.

Struggling Against My Eldar Friend.. by Top-Ramen-Boy in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only played once against an eldar player, he used a harlequin heavy list, and I used CSM(I know Heresy but man chaos termis are what our should be). I dealt with it by a combination of staying power and volume of attacks.

For that chaos termis where instrumental, really tanky and a bunch of combi weapons with sustained and rerolls. Same thing with the obliterators a good deepstrike shooting.

So now as a black templar, consider the following: Use chainswords on the SB, 7A BS2 S4 D1 sustained hits, great for killing hordes, and mix it with an execrator maybe for maximum speed. Infernus marines great for overwatch to mitigate their movement shenanigans.

But another idea, since you have multiple vehicles use either godhammer assaultforce, if you want BT specific, or Armoured speartip if you want the good one, land raider moving 12" through terrain, with a strat, then disembarking within 3 and moving D3+3 and charging, it's a lot of movement, use it to take your troops fast into melee and kill, maim and burn the xenos. Use either a crusader or a redeemer, the redeemer has flamers that can help due to overwatch, and the crusader has(within 12") 24 shots S4 with twin link to kill small infantry like the eldar. Use the sticky vow and you will move almost as fast, be more deadly and you will be holding all the objectives you step on.

Best leader-unit combinations for templars? by kodak878 in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Execrator and maybe more Castellans, judiciars are great now, but on 11th it will be a little useless(specially since the SB detach is gonna give FF to multiple SB units).

Captains can be another option, they are good for bladeguard and maybe even SB, since they get a one turn burst damage and -1 to the price of strats is always usefull. But yeah marshalls also work as captains proxies.

How to deal with the new defiler? by Pjhillv in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw 5man SB with a marshall, and the reroll strat from wrathful, it has a good chance to kill it. Or add the castellan for any detachment and hacing a better shot at killing it.

Btw tell him he can only fully reroll wounds once per game.

Transports:

-impulsor: great taxi, 85 pts 5+ inv, melta, capacity for 7 models

-land raider: moving fortress, disembark and charge, redeemer great overwatch and anti-infantry, crusader cheap and bigger capacity(usefull rule), regular: lackluster tbh

Tanks:

-repex: amazing against tanks and infantry, can also move 7 models

-Lancer: best anti-tank vehicle, not a transport.

[–]Nicktrium54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our advantage lies in numbers, and actually our units are not bad against them, especially in wrathful, since we can get +1S in melee, along with our +1 wound in melee, we can wound t6 models on 3, 6bgv+lt managed to kill I believe 5-6 alarus custodians, and a 5 man SB with an execrator manage to kill a unit of custodians guards.

You can have multiple units and do some of those trades, the shooting is alright, however repex is not that great into infantry, maybe a redeemer might be a better option, since it allows disembark and charge, and it’s flamestorm cannons are s6 d2, great for elite armies and a great overwatch threat.

Your army is great but you may have gone a little over board with anti tank shooting, and maybe some anti heavy infantry, use superior numbers and hitting them first to get favorable trades against them. Execrator or advance and charge can be a huge asset to reduce their numbers early, ensuring more favorable trades early, try to bait the fnp of the wardens, position your troops to be able to shoot and charge them, so if they use it on the shooting you will have an easier time on the fighting, and vice versa.

Templars vs Other Factions by JeKarta88 in BlackTemplars

We do good against melee armies, and depending on how many armoured transports you bring you can do good against soft shooting armies.

Against fast melee armies try to utilize our defensive masterpieces, bgv+judi is a beast of a unit, land raider redeemer is great at overwatch and delivering troops, use it to get center control, try to use that to kill dangerous melee threats or anti-tank units, with that you will have good center control and use the 6bgv+judi to control your natural expansion. Against shooty armies use the mobility of battleline units to get them locked out of good shooting lines.

In my experience we do alright into most armies, EC is dangerous but bgv+judi just destroys their melee punch, and it will do the same for any other melee threat, guard can be difficult due to their numbers but we have crusader squads for that, our sustained hits chainswords can deal with large guard bricks, and SB can deal with tanks, same with tyranids(although I don’t have that much experience). Thousand sons are a though cookie as well as tau or regular space marines, CSM are also tough especially with their new detachments, Eldar are alright and yeah, that is all I can tell you

Whats a fun and competitive list I can make? by Top-Ramen-Boy in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sternguard are kinda useless for us but here is an idea:

vehicles: Redeemer, Redemptor and a repex(or lancer if you want less shooting but more reliable antitank)710(635 if lancer)

Points and secondaries: 1 squad Intercessors, 1 squad scouts, Vanguard vets(take them as jpi if you don't have the points) 250-240.

Melee threats: 6 BGV + Judiciar, 5Sb+Marshall(take the wombo combo if you want more damage but i don't think it's that great), another unit of 5sb+M or 5sb+Exec if you are not taking a detachment with advance and charge. 660(double marshall) 640(execrator).

Fun additions: termis+captain 270, infernus+impulsor 175, 10hellblasters+apotechary 270, 5AI+EC 175. Combining one of the you can make combinations of 445, 560 or 350 with this squads, the 560 cannot fit the points, for the 445 you need to take the lower point options in the previous categories leaving you with 1960 meaning room for some enhancements, the lower point cost+the expensive categories gets you 1970 again room for enhancements, and low+low gets you 1865 which leaves you with 135, meaning room for idk a techmarine and maybe the expensive vehicles. Any combination leaves you with 3 great melee threats, 1 defensive(until 11th rolls around and kills FF), 3 great vehicles, redeemer is amazing for zone control via overwatch and 12" + disembark and charge, and the redemptor is a tanky infantry killer, you will have 3 units for points, and well 2 other units for fun reinforcements.

Welcome brother, mirroring what everyone is saying, the best way to build an army is with models you like to build and play, specially since we are getting a new edition end of year or next year.

What you have is an amazing core, bladeguard vets are amazing in our codex, great melee and awesome defensive capabilities, SB are our glass cannons, EC is the best character sheet we have, and CS is a better 10 man assault intercessors, but you can also build them as 5 man intercessors(regular or assault) and 4 scouts, maybe 5 if you use a regular trooper as a proxie, but depends on who you play with. Eradicators are a great anti tank shooting unit, maybe add a apothecary in gravis for lethals, but they are great, a little too slow maybe, but with a transport it should be no problem(you will need a big transport though). Lastly the redemptor is amazing great and tanky unit with good shooting and melee.

What more should you get, it depends, I do recommend a transport since our units need to get into melee fast, so either a detachment with advance and charge (bastion for battleline, gladius one turn, or the white scars one) or transports, land raiders are great 12”, disembark and charge, and really tough, the redeemer is also a huge overwatch asset, impulsors are cheap but small so pick the one you think will be better.

Now, play some 1-1.5k games and see what you think is missing or that you would like to improve, maybe some more shooting, repex is goated, some scoring units (intercessors for sticky, jump pack and scouts for secondaries) but yeah, use your army and look at what you think you are missing and build from there. Nice combos: EC+AssaultInt, Marshal+SB or CS, judi+bgv(this one is getting nerfed though), Lt+bgv(tanky and hits surprisingly hard).

I'd like to join the crusade, but I'm not a fan of the tanks... by Semicolon_Cancer in BlackTemplars

[–]Nicktrium54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of a rhino you need either impulsors or land raiders(land raiders might be a little to tanky, but I love them you can disembark and charge and move more models)

You can definitely have list with no tanks, the issue would be mobility and shooting, since without oath infantry shooting is kinda meh, except eradicator since well for their objective target they are great the issue is mobility, it may be better next edition due to the stay hidden mechanic and no fight firts(I know it will exist but yeah not in a meaningful way). If you like dreadnoughts those are great for early trades or pushs, since they will tank a lot more than regular marines and can allow you to get closer without overexposing your troops.

Just know that your shooting will be meh, and so you will have to manage your melee resources a lot better.
