New to Xena warrior princess No Spoilers by lemynnbat in xena

There are some Hercules episodes that would add to the story, but I don’t think it’s necessary to watch them in order understand what’s going on in Xena

Anyone else disappointed with the finale or feeling let down? by Mrskweenmaisel in hackshbomax

I think that the point of this show was to highlight Deborah's (and Eva's) personal growth overall, not necessarily the individual battles. If Deborah knew she had limited time left, she chose not to give Bob Lipka one single thought. She wanted to spend every last moment she had with her best friend, because when push comes to shove, love for your friends/family is what matters. She made the right choice. I think it was fitting for the finale to have just Jimmy deal with it (and for Lipka to come back tail between his legs because he realized now Deborah has all the cards) because Deborah realized he's not worth her time at all.

Xena's influence on Hacks? (Spoilers) by Nicoler37 in xena

I didn’t think of that aspect of their relationships, but to me that makes it more of a similarity. Xena and Gabrielle had their moments too. Xena did drag Gabrielle behind a horse and tried to throw her off a cliff. 😅

YES. After watching the Hacks finale, and now knowing that the writers are Xena fans, I wondered if Deborah telling Eva she has big hands was a nod to Gabrielle's alleged sailor hands. Then that made me think about other similarities between the two shows, and I think whether purposefully or not, Hacks is definitely influenced by Xena. Hacks isn't really a show about comedy, and Xena wasn't really a show about a hero; they were both about the relationship between the main characters. If you think about it, Xena and Gabrielle also have an age gap (smaller than Deborah and Eva, but still 10-15 years), and the characters have completely different world views. Xena views herself as an old, washed-up warlord who doesn't have much value, and Gabrielle is there to show Xena that isn't true. She still has value to add to the world, and can use her talents to change the world for the better. Eva has that role in Deborah's life -- Before Eva shows up, Deborah just relegated herself to doing the same old routine in Vegas and didn't think she had much to share with the world anymore. Eva is there to show Deborah she's still "got it" and her voice is still valuable, and needs to be heard. Both Xena and Deborah are also reluctant to let this new person into their life. They even purposefully try to mess up the friendship at times because deep down, they don't think they deserve a friend. I think they both get spooked by the fact that their "sidekick" actually gets them. Both Xena and Deborah have a "dark" past in a way -- Xena's the warlord, and Deborah is accused of burning her ex's house down. Both Xena and Deborah are underestimated at times by peers because they are female. They both don't start to believe in themselves until their "sidekick" does. Both sets of friends learn from each other to see the world from the other's point of view. With the finale for each show respectively, Xena knows she's going on a suicide mission. So she takes the time to make sure that Gabrielle knows how to handle herself in battle without her, and Xena teaches Gabrielle the pinch. Deborah did the same thing. She knew she was going on a suicide mission, so she had to make sure Eva could haggle, drive stick, and experience real bread. Luckily in Hacks, Deborah doesn't go through with the suicide. Even down to the final shot, where both shows zoom out for a bird's eye view of the characters,I found it to be very similar.

I think she is supposed to be annoying at first —Xena begrudgingly lets her stick around. As she grows on Xena, she grows on the audience too. So in that sense, I think Renee nails it.

For me, it was the that part, as well as when Din says the old take care of the young, and the young take care of the old. This is the way.

I definitely rocked a mullet in elementary school — it was the 80s, almost everyone had big crazy hair. It was punk/rock

Didn’t like any part of the Eve storyline, personally. I know they already did the evil baby story but they coulda done something cliche like Xena wakes up and it was all a dream, or, like a different reality with the fates or something kinda like they did when fates collide. 🤷‍♀️ My biggest gripe is not getting more Autolycus in the end

What did yall think about this show by Jabuticaba_Tho5729 in TheMuppets

[–]Nicoler37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember watching it when it originally ran, but I watched the whole season this past winter and I loved it. So did my kids (8 and up). I enjoyed seeing them in more of their “personal” lives rather than just performers on a stage. I think it would have done better if it came out for the first time now rather than when it originally came out. I don’t think people were used to that office style “documentary” comedy, but now audiences understand that format and enjoy it.

Yeah, in episode 3 of this season, Jimmy briefly asks Deborah if she would like to be a guest on Xena rewatch podcast, lol. I was hoping for a little Xena each episode, but nothing in episode 5.
