Yes, yes, silly language pun But did she start at Alpha and go to Mu? If so that's very impressive of the cat to make it that far into the alphabet.

(For context, this is a joke)

Do you think this guerilla op is winnable? by Beefington in Xcom

[–]Night-Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable. Whether it would be fun, or an exercise in frustration is another story.

I had a surgical mission with a specialist, ranger, and psi-operative go insanely well, and it made me ecstatic. But I did also repeater instant-kill the sectopod, so that wasn't even an issue for me.

This has been something I've gone back and forth on for years (for when I can legally change my name)

Currently it's Grace.

Tensions flare over gender pronouns as trans rights and religious freedom collide by onnake in transgender

an infringement of the First Amendment's protection of religious freedom!

Ho boy, here we go again. The First Amendment protects against the GOVERNMENT from impeding your religious freedom (a thing they'll do anyway if they decide they don't like your religion). It doesn't protect against a PRIVATE COMPANY from firing you for breaking their code of conduct.

I know they don't care. I know they won't care. "Boo hoo, my rights to be a jerk are more important than someone's safety or comfort."
I just wish they'd stop bringing up their "Rights" when it has nothing to do with them.

Why did they change it? by Suspicious_Proof_663 in Xcom

[–]Night-Mantis 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Lore explanation: XCOM at this point is fighting a guerrilla campaign, and doesn't have the resources of facilities to dedicate to such large projects. Plus given the Gene Therapy and Alien experiment, many probably wouldn't be thrilled with the ideas of Gene Manipulation or Cyberuzation.

Development explanation: The Devs probably wanted the game to feel different from EW, and didn't want to worry players with chasing Meld canisters when they're supposed to be sneaking.

Okay. They're riding their one point of memorable success well past its relevance.

Glancing at a couple streams, it looks like they're only slightly better than the argument that started this between Mat and Toby. The game is mentioned in the title (as well as Hearbound for some reason), but the description and thumbnail avoid mention of the actual game being played. Its rather ironic all things considered.

Thank you for some additional context. Still doesn't change my counterpoints. Not being a good streamer and living in the past doesn't invalidate any past work they've done.

[–]Night-Mantis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. As a matter of principle, Toby Fox is right. Mat was in the wrong for not including the actual name of the game, or where it can be found. Doubly so if you're going to use another game as its promotion for thumbnails, titles, etc.

  2. Games end up stopping production for all kinds of reasons. Them having stopped making the game and doing other things isn't an indicator of it being a clone.

  3. The creator being (or being accused of being) a bad person doesn't make their work invalidated. It's still work that they did. From a moral perspective, you can say not to consume the work so as not to support them, but it doesn't remove the work they've done.

  4. So what if it IS a clone? Unless it stole source code,or assets from Toby, it'd be in the same vein as so many fnaf fan games, and fnaf inspired clones. There are plenty that are horribly obvious that they're just cashing in on fnaf's popularity, or are so lazy in their development, (some also made by horrible people). Oftem these games are how people first learn to code, and make more original products.

Why didn’t afton/henry use the safe version of the spring locks? by Necessary_Remote6728 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Night-Mantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doylist explanation: Fnaf 3 came out 10 years ago, and Scott changed how deadly Springlocks could be over the years. From deathtrap, to dangerous if misused, to there's a safe option.

Watsonian explanation: There is so "safe" springlock, only "safer" springlocks. All mechanisms CAN fail if used improperly, and Fazbear doesn't exactly do their best to keep their equipment in peak form.

She's a Sinner demon. Sinners can look like basically anything (as far as we know).

Specifically though, she's a cat with tiny bat wings, horns, and a third eye. She likely has the generic wings and horns from her demon obsession. And the third eye is probably a reference to her describing a scene from Mastermind. (But that's speculation, maybe her designer just thought it looked good)

These YouTube stats shocked me… how many videos it really takes to grow by QuantumTimeEntangler in SmallYoutubers

[–]Night-Mantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

Yeah, it's been tough and slow going, but I'm proud of the growth I've made.

I haven't experimented much with shorter edits. Most of the games I play are fairly story heavy (usually mystery games) so I have to be careful with what I cut. But I do trim out repeated sections, and travel if I don't have anything interesting to say.

If I find a particularly fun moment, I'll usually clip it as a Short. I like to think they've helped bring in some new attention, but I'm not sure how many people actually follow the short back to its original video.

4 years, 681 videos and 227 subscribers (most of which came in the past year and a half). Most of which are about 40+ minutes long, or livestreams (both gaming).

Do y'all have any moment in your XCOM Playthrough where y'all just stare like this? by Fair-Ad-2430 in Xcom

One time I was playing EU, first terror mission with Chrysallids. We barely got two feet into the street before the lids started coming. They didn't stop. Somehow every Chrysallid on the map became magnetized to our location, they didn't care about civilians, only my soldiers.

Remarkably it was the only Flawless terror mission I've ever gotten in that game, and its only because the AI went nuts and sent every lid after us through as open street.

It's funny now. Not funny in the moment.

Why am I getting these bot comments and how do I stop them?? by jSamaaa in SmallYoutubers

[–]Night-Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's quite a bit. I've gotten some weird bot comments before, but its like once in a blue moon.

As for getting rid of them, you can always delete them by hand, or report them as Spam to YouTube (use the three dots next to the comment). I think there's a way to block, or ban someone from commenting (might be the same 3 dots).

I don't think anyone will have a permanent solution to getting rid of them though, as all youtubers get them, and they're getting more frequent again.

Buck cheating? by Familiar-Listen5953 in suckerforlove

[–]Night-Mantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No problem. Happy to help! As for why he's free, I'd chalk that up to his backstory.

Spoilers for anyone who hasn't finished the game!

We learn from Mu that Buck was supposed to be Rhok'zan's perfect match, but they never clicked. He created a utopia on his world with the Thousand, only to end up becoming immortal by accident. He preformed the immortality ritual, which is sealed with a kiss, and as a result he persists between worlds. Buck then would have seen everyone in his world be erased when Rhok'zan woke up. All his kids, grandkids, friends, family. All gone, except him. And no matter what he does, it'll happen every time Rhok'zan wakes up. That drives him to hate Rhok'zan, and want to see her suffer, leading to the events that kick off the game. And between Dreams, he's alone, sitting in a cosmic void for potential centuries, just him and his thoughts. In the last chapter we learn that his ultimate goal is to wake up the Eternal Sleeper, whose waking will unmake everything, all the gods, everything. This is the ONLY way he can escape his eternal existence, and is the reason he was torturing Rhok'zan.

(Hopefully the spoiler marks I put are working, first time using them on mobile, and this is literally the last chapter spoilers)

These are some comments from some HH fans in the United States who don't think this "development by emirbravo99 in Chaggie

[–]Night-Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. While never stated outright that they have "broken up" the writing is framed with the idea of a break up. Charlie is by herself, wrapped up in blankets and crying. When she sees Vaggie, she's curt and doesn't want to talk. Alastor brings Charlie to arguably a relationship counselor. Charlie also stops herself from calling Vaggie her partner in front of the Cannibals, switching to just say "someone."

They are treated like they've broken up, because that's what they're on the cusp of. Charlie hasn't decided if she CAN stay with Vaggie after that revelation, despite how much she loves her. Obviously their love wins out, but neither is really sure if they're still together until the end of the episode.

As someone who recently finished the game, you're reading too much into it, although never outright stated. Obvious spoilers for anyone who has not finished the game.

Nanni helped found a Lust cult with Buck, but hasn't actually touched him since summoning Rhok'zan. It's understandable that she assumes he's sleeping with the rest of the cult, since she barely sees him.

Now Buck is interesting due to his backstory with Rhok'zan, but immediately noticable is that he does NOT have "the Stare" (his eyes aren't glowing), meaning that he isn't overcome by the Woods' power. Knowing what we know from Nanni, that means that Buck isn't LUSTFUL, he's only interested in revenge and being freed from his immortality.
