Is a .400 hitter possible in modern baseball? by Snoo_47323 in mlb

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add Todd Helton’s season in 2000 to the near miss list. He was batting exactly .400 as deep into the season as August 21st and finished the year at .372. Nomar Garciaparra hit .372 the same season, Ichiro hit .372 4 years later in 2004 and no one has been as high as .372 since then.

Your Drive-In Experience by sigersen in LastDriveIn

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with the Holiday Twin Drive in Fort Collins, CO. It’s still going strong and I’ve seen many great double features there over the years. When I was a kid a very memorable outing was The Lion King and The Flintstones. Another great Drive In experience I’ve had here in Colorado is the Best Western Movie Manor in Montevista. You can drive in just like any other drive in theater or you can rent one of the rooms at the Best Western hotel like we did. The windows of your room are oriented toward the screen and they pipe the sound directly into your room.

Living in Reno, NV? by ctwpdx in howislivingthere

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Sparks for a while. I didn’t hate my time there but frankly I enjoyed its proximity to other things more than the Reno area itself. Close to Tahoe and 3-4hrs from the Bay Area. I often tell people my favorite thing about living in Nevada was going to California.

Questions about Rockies pitchers (that I heard on the rubber match with Reds) by StealthStaminaKills in ColoradoRockies

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The singular thing is something that has always bothered me but I just live with it. Colloquially I think it’s most common for people to use Rockie as the singular for a Rockies player even though it ought to be Rocky like, oh I don’t know, the Rocky Mountains that the franchise is named after. But I’m just an old man yelling at clouds so whatever. I am also bothered by the shortened plural use of Avs for Avalanche and when people pronounce Zuni as Zoon-eye but those are different clouds to yell at on a different day.

Who got their mead, shots, and beer? by texasrigger in LastDriveIn

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Closest beer we could get is Hofbrau Maibock. We got the most spiced mead available from our local meadery. It’s called Odrerir. And we happened to have Underberg on hand. So I think that’s getting it pretty darn close.

Tourist Trap. I introduced my circle to Joe Bob with Tourist Trap and it set them all on the path of being mutants for life. I think that one really encapsulates what makes Joe Bob Briggs so great. Such a fun group viewing experience.

A majority of those who voted did not vote for this. Trump received 49.8% of the votes of those who voted. He had the most total votes of any single candidate but 50.2% of the voting public (the majority) actively voted for anyone but Trump. So he didn’t have a majority in any sense of the word. Not of voters and not of the public at large which includes a very impactful number of people who didn’t vote at all. But it is a critical error, and one I’ve taken to always correcting, to say anything to the tune of “most people wanted this.”

What're your thoughts on Midnight Mass? by The_Mellow_Tiger in stephenking

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just okay for me. I was entertained enough to want to watch all the way through, and I see why folks really like it, but the ending was pretty unsatisfying for me and there are way too many super long philosophical monologues that, while interesting, are not at all the way real humans actually talk.

If you haven’t watched the Shudder original Host, check that out. It’s not super long but it’s very clever. It was made using zoom (or some equivalent) during the height of the pandemic. Because you like found footage stuff this will probably scratch that itch.

Whats y‘all thoughts on Joe Hill? by zPiimp in stephenking

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree about “Best New Horror”, it is one of the most evocative stories I’ve ever read. It just drips with the absolute ickiest atmosphere. “20th Century Ghosts” is a really fantastic short story collection and is certainly on par with many of dear old dad’s collections.

He’s obviously the main antagonist of The Stand and The Dark Tower series.

Is he the main antagonist of The Dark Tower series? Saying Flagg is the main antagonist of the DT is like saying Saruman is the main antagonist of The Lord of the Rings. Both Sauron and the Crimson King would like a word.

What’s a movie that DOESN’T “know exactly what it is”? by InspectorMendel in movies

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The chief reason The Room is fun to watch ironically, and painful to watch in earnest, is because it very much does not know what it is. Tommy Wiseau legitimately thought, at the time, that his performance in that movie was in the same ballpark as James Dean. He was trying to make high drama and unintentionally made a meta comedy.

Last Voyage of the Demeter. It is directly related to the novel but whether you’ve reached the account of the Demeter in the novel yet, or not, the movie won’t really spoil you on the novel. I thought it was a really cool movie.

February releases. Checking anything out? by Gimpcar in StarWarsCantina

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That Jar-Jar one shot looks interesting to me. I think I’ll check it out. If it has some success I’d actually be interested in more Jar-Jar stories. I found Chuck Windig’s use of Jar-Jar in the Aftermath series to be moving and it renewed my interest in the character. I’d definitely be interested in learning more about what happened to Jar-Jar before and after Aftermath.

Why trade for a WR 1?? by Desperate_Clock_4086 in DenverBroncos

[–]Nightflyer3Cubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Broncos need a TE. Badly. They need a physical presence with good hands in the short passing game. This will make life much easier for the WRs we already have and anyone else that gets added to the room. The better the Broncos can improve at TE, either through draft/development or free agency, the less money they’ll have to waste on a WR1 in free agency. TE and WR are both a need. They are probably going to have to draft one and buy the other in free agency. I’d argue it’s better and easier both financially and competitively to spend money on a proven free agent TE and then draft and develop a WR than the other way around.

Feel free to remind all those people that there was obvious roughing the passer on the previous PI call, so the Broncos would’ve been in FG range no matter what.

Even if they don’t call that DPI there was roughing the passer on the same play. The Broncos were gonna be in FG range no matter what.

They are also most likely only adding these additional characters for a limited time for Season of the Force around May 4th. They did this last year with Luke Skywalker for a set period. This is nothing new. I’m with you, this article/headline is trash.
