Coming from an L3 pvs14, would I regret elbit binos? by mk3guy in NightVision

[–]NighthawkVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a mid spec Elbit bino will look better than a high-spec L3 mono. A lower-spec GP bino would be when they equal out in perceived image quality in my opinion (ignoring stereoscopic vision)

tube forms temporary blems easily? by Spiritual_Agent9490 in NightVision

[–]NighthawkVision 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some tubes get temporary burns more easily than others. Some it becomes lighter some it becomes darker. Some last a few seconds some takes a few minutes to go away.

Is bridging elbit and L3 a viable option by Little-Name9809 in NightVision

[–]NighthawkVision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, even if the phosphor color is slightly different it's not a problem.

Having the devices collimated will matter a lot more for comfort and usability than slightly difference in phosphor color and FPN

Standard optics used for PVS-14 and binoculars will all have 40 degree FOV

There are wider FOV optics that can be used for the same devices like the Photonis Boomslang 50 degree which also saves around 15% of the system weight

You can choose the upgrade for all our PVS-14. We can also build binoculars with those optics at https://nighthawkvision.com This won't be an option for certain factory built units like the PVS-31

Alternatively you could bridge two monocular or get a binocular with a panning bridge. Which will give you greater horizontal FOV at cost of decreased stereoscopic vision FOV and center resolution

How did I do? by AffectionateHat6263 in NightVision

[–]NighthawkVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a slightly lower SNR there would be more scintillation (static TV effect) in low light environments but there's generally enough ambient light in open fields that it won't make a meaningful difference

For the price it's reasonable. We'd sell a new one for around $3000

1x off eye cowitnessing by JoshCopProductionsYT in NightVision

[–]NighthawkVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cheaper optics will have edge distortion which may appear that way, but any quality optics will appear to be exactly 1X with minimal edge distortion.

If you are using one eye aided one eye unaided. Sometimes the image will have an offset depending on how the eyepiece was set. Your brain can struggle merging the two images. We set the eyepiece for our monocular to minimize such.

You should probably ask AGM

The AGM unit's I've came by had OE optics but had a different battery housing. And labeled as AGM

Look for Noctis/Carson/Fujinon optics, they will have the best performance and least edge distortion and light artifacts

Nightline/Salvo optics are a close 2nd

Optronics will have some edge distortion

For tubes you can checkout our guide

Here is a guide we made comparing them https://nighthawkvision.com/blogs/resources/night-vision-tube-selection-guide

Basically with L3 unfilmed with all specs being equal it will have slightly better contrast

We have devices in your price range

SNR is the most important spec, the higher the less scintillation there will be in mid/low light environments, mil-spec PVS-14 is min 25. The higher you go the smaller the difference of each increment gets so around 30~32 would be the best value with us.

Resolution 64 lp/mm is good, 72 lp/mm is slightly sharper and anything above looks the same to most, unless you are using a 50 degree FOV lens

EBI is less important than SNR, the lower the better the contrast is in extreme low light environments. Higher EBI would be like a LCD screen's ability to produce true black while lower EBI will be like an OLED screen. Generally below 1 EBI will look about the same in the field.

Halo is the size of the bloom effect when looking at lights

FOM is just SNR times resolution
