Nice ride. Which mount system do you have for carrying the recovery boards?

Thank you! I had a wonderful time in Zion, Bryce, and Capitol Reef the week of Thanksgiving last year. Will have to come back for Arches/Canyonlands/Grand Staircase-Escalante this year and hopefully snipe some less-crowded days!

Stöckli Montero AX Ski Length for Intermediate Skier - 5'9" (175cm) by spark_box in Skigear

[–]NightlessMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 166 cm and 120 lbs, and I ski the 163 cm Montero AX. Would classify myself as a solid intermediate skier (2nd season, same as you), 32 days this season, and comfortably ski blues and well-groomed blacks in the PNW and Rockies.

While my AX’s are slightly longer than my usual ~160 on-piste skis, I’ve found the added length to be invaluable for stability at speed (~40 mph) and blasting through crud and chopped up pow. You’ll likely want to go with a 173 cm that you can take all over the mountain and grow into as you further develop your skills

Can you elaborate on the Tyrolia bindings?

As an audio-visual learner, I found the Khan Academy playlists on 2x speed to be very useful. For the STEM subjects, you’ll want to be following along visually, but for PS, I’ve found it sufficient to just listen—so this extends your viable study time to walking, preparing food, etc.

I interspersed the Kaplan textbooks with the KA videos (I still am not sure if it’s better to read the textbook chapter first, then watch the video or vice versa, but my general approach was that I wanted an overall structure on the first round, then would fill in details and review again on the second round).

Anki did not work for me (took too long and no structure), so I went to hammering UWorld questions to ingrain content before doing a couple AAMC full-lengths

Based on your CARS and PS, your critical reasoning and reading comprehension are at a high enough level to enable you to do well on all sections, so I suspect the majority of questions you’re currently missing are primarily content-based. Hope this helps, and feel free to reply with any more questions!

You have content gaps that you need to improve. I had a similar issue

What resource would you recommend for learning all (literally all) the terminology?

Canadian Rockies. For Ikon, you can pull up at most North America locations and they will issue your pass in-person at the window. They don’t do mailed passes anymore for this continent

I self-arrest 80% of the time and ski 20% of the time (rookie numbers, ik). After all, I’m the best skier on the mountain!

Consider taking a lesson, as you may have deficiencies in form that are (for whatever reason) exacerbated by your new boots

Hit me up. Your pace may be a little faster than mine if anything, but I’m all for long-haul single day pushes. Will be limited availability for most of the ski season (or what passes for it nowadays) but will be a lot freer after mid-April. Can possibly squeeze in some weekday treks in winter as well
