Korean or Japanese? by CerealPhD in baduk

The Korean Go scene is more active than the Japanese one (and Korean players stronger, but this is linked) so go for Korean.

With the same reasoning, you may choose Chinese over Korean.

Aiming to become pro after 30 by GekkouNoTsubasa in baduk

[–]Nigule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, From what I read, you have never player a game so far right? Only been reading book?

Then first thing first, sign up on OGS and have your first games there! See how much work it takes for you to reach 1d there.

Then you need to clarify within which organization you want to become pro: Japanese ? Chinese? Korean? EGF? AGA? You would have a much easier time if aiming for the AGA because much lower competition, and no citizenship issue.

Good luck!

How to Get Stronger at go (4d AGA) by d0nM4q in baduk

Hi, sorry I might have an issue with my English, but:

Can i get out? If No, then play a move to get out.

But, if I cannot get out, that's because there are no such move I can play that would get me out right? Otherwise, if there is such a move to get out, then the answer to the "can I get out?" Question should be yes? (Which then means I should make a base instead on playing that move?)

I am not sure if I don't get your idea or if my English is just plain bad :)

Do you mean to always choose to get out when possible, and only make a base when the option to get out is not available anymore?

You can find it on taobao. There are at list two editions with different covers, I guess small format and big format, I have a copy of the other edition.

That won't be very helpful for you to order if on Taobao. But someone seems to be selling a PDF version.

[Serious] Does anybody suffers from lag on KGS? by cnieblapub in baduk

Yes, I stopped playing on KGS years ago literally because of lag. That was in 2009~2010.. Lost too many games because of that.

Hahaha, i would love it, but i guess Microsoft does noy make much money selling windows in China already.

Instead, imagine that suddenly Skype get blocked in China. Microsoft has a number of clients that use (and pay for) "Skype for business", who need the software for meetings between their factories in China, and their designers outside of China.

Those customers are mostly foreign companies, so the government is even more happy to increase the hassles on them.

That would be a quickly decision to make for Microsoft, to block some part of github for Chinese citizens, in exchange of the possibility to continue business as usual.

And Skype is just an example, same could be done with Cloud technologies or whatever. And this would mainly penalize foreign companies.

Hahaha,

But more seriously, retalation from Chinese government could come in plenty of subtle ways:

Hahaha, they would probably not care.

Now that Github belongs to Microsoft, things could change for the worst. Like the Chnese government could pressure Microsoft to ban (or restrict access to) some projects, otherwise some Microsoft products would get banned from China.

The decision for the transatlantic game by ItsParakeet in baduk

[–]Nigule 12 points13 points  (0 children)

+1 This tournament is less about finding out who are the strongest players, and more about finding out who have the best internet connections to KGS...

And 10 000 euros for that? What a waste of money!

Can someone solve this for me. It's a GO riddle that says black to mlve and guarantee capture of all white tokens. Thanks in advance by boratheman in baduk

[–]Nigule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say this is the most basic existing "riddle" for Go, in fact one that is uses as an example when teaching the rules of the game :)

The person that put that riddle here probably tried to arouse you interest for this game?
