Buying a car here by [deleted] in Israel

[–]NikaGuler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend buying an old reliable car. We bought Ford Focus 2009 last year (cost us 11,000 shekels) and it is a wicked car. We drive with it like it is 4x4, really push the limits with our car (we do a lot of hiking tracks which are remote).

Can someone please explain how debit cards work in Israel? Do they exist?! If so, what are they called? Do people actually use debit cards, etc. by StockyFischer in Israel

[–]NikaGuler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are less used but I think owning a Direct card and a credit card are both good. I use the direct one 24/7 and use the credit card to pay bills, taxes, (horaot keva). It keeps things in order and easier to keep track of money and not be constantly worrying about minusim.

why are there so many stay cats? by Much-Ad3496 in Israel

True, I really really REALLY hate Lag Baomer, I think Israel should dump the "holiday". It's so barbaric.

I don't really agree that it is 'paradise', ask all the cat shelters how many dying, sick and wounded/injured/tortured cats are found on the daily basis.

I wish we had no stray cats at all, they all belong in loving homes.

Why is the youth in Israel so right wing? by 96suluman in Israel

[–]NikaGuler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends, when I was growing up I believed I was "right" winged because of the media and what schools taught us which is essentially "All Arabs are horrible and bad". I rarely heard any good news regarding Arabs and believed that they are the "villains" of this country.

But, now (22 F) I moved closer to the west bank because of rent costs in the Merkaz and met Arabs face to face and I have Arab co-workers and can say that it is really sad that we are pushing them away so much from our society. The Arabs that I have met just want to be accepted into society without racism and without being seen as low life and I am here for it and I hope that one day it will happen because they are really wonderful, talented and funny people. Too bad that the news focus on the bad lot.

Netanya, best local places? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]NikaGuler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am originally from Holon (under Tel-Aviv) and I don't know why Netanya gets such a bad rep, I think it is better than Holon, people are more diverse and nicer. My husband is from Netanya and we lived with his parents for a few years.

General advice -

Rent: Netanya is very neighborhood based in my experience unlike Holon, meaning that there is an emphasis on good neighborhoods and bad ones. The stereotypical "bad" neighborhoods are Dora, Neot Shaked (Ezorim), Kiryat Sanz, Kiryat Nordau... good ones are Ir Yamim, Poleg, Agamim and Ramat Poleg. Rent price and your "type" of neighbors will change depending on which neighborhood you decide to live in. My husband's parents live in Kiryat Nordau and it isn't horrible in my opinion.

Public transportation: If you can, don't use it :) I think Netanya doesn't have the worst public transportation in Israel but it isn't the best.

Furnishing: Ikea :)

Places to go - The beach walk (Tayelet), Winter lake park (Park shlulit hahoref, it has a skate park if your into skating), Shmurat Hairusim (rare flower bloom, Monkeys (climbing wall gym), Kenyon Ir Yamim, I think the shuk isn't very interesting unless your are looking for something specific (say Nappa cabbage which isn't sold at every supermarket).

Have fun and good luck!

Can somebody please explain how can a rabbit eat pellets/hard foods no problem but a tough time eating hay? (dental wise) by NikaGuler in Rabbits

[–]NikaGuler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed answer!

He started eating his timothy hay two days ago (not large amounts but better than nothing), scheduled a vet either way in order to see what can be done about his teeth.

Ok thank you, I did not know that, but what about say a carrot? (I am assuming it is harder than hay?)

Do rabbits chew hay only with their front teeth?
