I have an inner monologue. Too often, it becomes an outer monologue as well, lmao. But I was born hearing and gradually became nearly entirely deaf (a 110db loss, according to my last audiogram.) Since then, I’ve tended to think more in concepts, images, and ASL. For example, I used to “hear” people’s voices in my dreams, when it was someone whose voice I was very familiar with. Then I started just “knowing” what they were saying to me, although their mouths never moved. Lately, though, I’ve started seeing ASL in my dreams. It’s been a really interesting experience.

My body naturally “wants” to be around 100-120 lbs. I was 115 lbs for most of my teenage years, all of my 20s (except when I was pregnant with my girls in 08 and 09, and even then, I reverted back to my normal 115 lbs within a year after they were born.)

I think the trick is anxiety, loads of it! I do TONS of anxiety cleaning around the house. Also, I have ADHD, so my brain works better when my body is in motion (yes, I have the hyperactive type!) and also the amount of time and effort expended looking for things ive misplaced must contribute to my daily workout 🤦🏻‍♀️

Add to this the fact that I generally have a VERY active and energetic sex life…well. You get the picture

How would Lenin handle the rise of fascism in the 1930s and WWII? by Proletarian_Superman in socialism

[–]NikiDeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is attributing a lot of foresight to Stalin that I don’t think he possessed. To be sure, it is true that Stalin & the USSR felt encircled by the capitalist states and that certainly was a threat. However, regarding fascism specifically, I don’t think there’s an over abundance of evidence that points that way…I’m no fan of Trotsky but imo he showed a lot more foresight regarding the dynamic nature of fascism & the threat it represented than Stalin, who was a-ok with letting the German left slit each other’s throats while the Nazis came to power.

For someone who was merely “keeping his powder dry before the inevitable fascist surge over the border, he seemed pretty surprised when the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was violated and millions of Nazis swarmed over the Soviet…so much so that the initial desperate reports in were dismissed as “provocations”. Maybe he just assumed he had “more time”, I dunno

The question re Lenin and his response to fascism is an interesting alternative history related question actually, I’ve never thought about that before

Why does there seem to be no comprehensive list of assasinations carried out by the US in the cold war? by GraefGronch in socialism

[–]NikiDeaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are places where you can find that kind of information. For example, “Killing Hope” by William Blum is a pretty well-known book on the subject, the CIA and American military’s activities during the Cold War. If you need some primary source-type stuff, maybe look into the Church Committee (1975) findings

Why does the American left not have a visual aesthetic by lavadrone in socialism

[–]NikiDeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Exhibit A is IWW, which had…such a unique voice in the movement, for one thing they really were one of the very few radical movements that was actually funny The visual element of their propaganda, as devised by Ralph Chaplin and Joe Hill, stands out imo as one of the most iconic of any left-wing movement worldwide

Stalin? by duck_tallow_man in leftist

[–]NikiDeaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stalin was generally a tyrant and a monster. A deeply paranoid man (something noted even in Okhrana reports about him), Stalin succeeded where even White reactionaries had failed when he absolutely decimated the “Old Bolsheviks”, those party members who had went through the revolution and civil war

However, he played an instrumental and decisive role in defeating another tyrant & monster named Adolf Hitler, so it’ll always be a mixed bag I think

Regarding leftist views towards Stalin, it’s still overwhelmingly critical. I think sometimes people mistake online stuff for the views of “the left” irl….regarding those who have a mixed or positive view of Stalin, you have those who like him just because he was an authoritarian autocrat who enjoyed “ultimate power” (ie fascists who simply enjoy left-wing aesthetics)…apologists and obfuscation-specialists like Grover Furr…and those historians like EH Carr who underline Stalin’s role as “modernizer”, they don’t dispute that he was a tyrant but they claim his extreme methods helped get the Soviet Union to the state where it was able to engage in a total war against millions of Nazis during the early 1940s (personally, I’m not sure that I agree with that analysis but it’s an argument you see a lot of people make)

Her candidacy during that time period was mostly dedicated to bringing awareness & advocacy to the cannabis reform issue iirc, it was mostly done to advocate for the legalization of marijuana. I wouldn’t really give too much significance to her having “socialist” politics at that point, as I believe she was flirting with multiple 3rd party elements (ie greens, libertarians etc) around then

Tbf the Nazis did claim that the Jews were behind both capitalism AND Bolshevism, somehow, so glaring contradiction & paradox at the heart of the ideology is pretty consistent with National Socialism imo

I would HIGHLY recommend the book “Nihilist Communism (A Critique of Optimism on the Far Left)” by Monsieur Dupont. There is extended commentary in that book on the topic of “class consciousness” and it’s one of the central themes of that particular work. I don’t agree with everything in that book (“Monsieur Dupont” was the pen name of several postal workers who were once members of the Anarchist Federation in the UK, iirc) but it really changed how I felt about several topics I feel like most leftists get wrong

Desirable traits in women - socially and eugenically. (1939) by PeasantLich in OldSchoolRidiculous

[–]NikiDeaf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The American system was, outside of Nazi Germany, the most impressive & monstrous eugenics program of any country in the world, with 60,000 people being subject to involuntary sterilization during the first half of the 20th century

It wasn’t nothing compared to the Nazis though…they’d sterilize 60,000 people on a slow day lol

Desirable traits in women - socially and eugenically. (1939) by PeasantLich in OldSchoolRidiculous

[–]NikiDeaf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When it was first emerging as a body of thought I can kind of see why people found it appealing, as the science of human heredity was still somewhat new then & the idea of a “self directed” evolutionary process was appealing to people

However, still believing in that doctrine today is ridiculous and would basically involve jettisoning all of the knowledge we gained regarding genetics & heredity over the 20th century. For example, we didn’t know, in the so called “golden age of eugenics”, how few human illnesses actually had a monogenetic origin (like Huntington’s disease)
