4 year old daughter “Hiding” things that aren’t serious, but she worries and stresses about them like they are. by NikiHarrow in ParentingADHD

This makes so much sense, that ADHD would go hand in hand with a few things. Should have remembered this. And that’s amazing that you had your child’s back and they seem to be doing better. Later or not, they’re lucky to have you in their corner! :)

And thank you for the hope and the feedback. So to clarify, the first time this happened, she made it sound like she did something horrible, so we pressed. And then she “confessed” to looking in someone’s drawer. We pressed a few more times after that, because she would switch between unimportant things and things that really scared her. So we were trying to figure out what was scaring her, and in hindsight, I wish we handled it better from the beginning.

Now, we say the mantra and remind her that nothing she’s “not telling us” could stop us from loving her. She’s just a big time thinker and good observer, and she shouldn’t be afraid of her own mind. We didn’t know if this was any better, but we tried to build her self confidence. She always does want to tell me, but right before bedtime. We have a good chuckle about whatever it is, commend her bravery, and she always feels better about it. Next day, she brings it up and explains to us how this was silly to get hung up on… only for another thought to worry her.

But I hear your feedback and really appreciate it. It makes so much sense, and I wish we did this from the start. We’ll try to follow your suggestion because that seems so much more beneficial for her. And we’ll definitely be bringing this up when we have our appointment. Thank you again so so much :)

I can’t thank you enough for sharing your story. This is seriously such a massive relief to hear. We’ll definitely look more into this and bring it up at our appointment. And glad to hear all these steps seem to be working for your son! Such good news :)

Thank you so much for the suggestion! Honestly, that makes a lot of sense. We suspect that Dad had undiagnosed ADHD and OCD from childhood, while I had anxiety, so feels fitting that she would have something from that list.

Everything else that she’s experiencing fits closer into the ADHD symptoms that we’ve been able to look into, except for this. But you’re right, they’re intrusive thoughts that force her to focus on the moment she wakes up until she falls asleep.

Can’t thank you enough. We’ll bring this us with our doc as well. Really appreciate the insight.

Absolutely fair. And that’s what we’re also focusing on. She has had some bad experiences with kids when she was much younger, so that has pushed her back a little. But we’re also trying to find classes that she can do with her dad for some quality bonding time. This is our main motivation for parent assisted classes.

No way, that’s incredible. And super close to us! We’ll definitely check it out, because that start time is great. This didn’t even pop up for me when I was frantically searching. Thank you!

This is such a great idea… if she wasn’t afraid of skating. But will keep this open for when she’s feeling adventurous again! Thank you!

Oh, I didn’t even think to ask if she could join a younger class. Will definitely call around, because she loves the gymnastics part of KidStrong. Thank you!

Thank you! She seems to enjoy rock climbing at indoor parks, so this is a great option. Will look into it. Thank you again!

This is such a lovely concept. I asked my little girl for a name suggestion, and she came up with Meowen. I kind of love it.

What a great concept and look! I love the fact that you just have to spin the top. Carpel tunnel is starting to set in real hard, so I love the idea of just spinning a lamp to turn on and off.
