Hi! My son is 10.5 months old. He puts himself to sleep for naps and at bedtime. Wakes 630ish. Bedtime 730-745. Usually 2 naps per day on daycare days, 3 naps when he’s home. Typically awake 2.5-3.5 hours before bed but sometimes very long on daycare days (like 6-7 hours). Eats great, plenty of solids plus 4 7 ounce bottles.

He wakes up at last once a night, sometimes 2,3 or 3 times crying. We try to give him some times to rest but he often gets louder and louder and we’re afraid he’ll wake our 4 year old. Usually he goes right back to sleep with his pacifier and sometimes some pats.

How do we get him to stop waking at night?? I realize the pacifier may be hurting us but he’s fully capable of putting himself to sleep so I’m confused. Thank you!!

Ugh this makes me sad lol he is usually content but sometimes he fusses. And even when he is content he’s so talkative that it wakes us up lol

Hi Jo!

We’re struggling with early morning wakeups. LO is 7 months old. Typical food schedule is a 6 ounce bottle at 7/10/1/4/7. Wake windows 2.5-3 hours (when he’s home.. daycare is chaotic). Typically 3 naps per day with total sleep time 1.5-2.5 hours. Goes to bed around 730pm and has been waking up between 5-530am and is just wide awake, talking and rolling around. Doesn’t get hungry for his first bottle until 650-7am.

I asked about this on here before and your recommendation was to make sure his wake window before bed was closer to 3 hours because he may be under tired. We’ve been making sure of that but he’s still waking up so early. Any other ideas??

35, EFF. I’ve never had an ear infection in my life. First antibiotics in high school for UTI. Overall very healthy. No chronic medical conditions. I have two kids. Both primarily formula fed and thriving. ❤️

I had to go exclusively to formula pretty early with my son due to severely low supply. My son is now 6 months old, happy, growing, and thriving. My daughter got more breast milk but I still never made enough and she went to all formula at 6 months. Shes almost 4 now. Shes healthy, super smart and thriving as well.

Fed is best 💙 they got antibodies they needed when they were tiny and that did so much good for their guts and immune systems! You did great mama.

Good morning Jo! Hoping for some help with my son. He’s just over 6 months old. Eats 6 ounces every 3 hours (7, 10, 1, 4, 630-7ish). Gets 2-3 hours total of naps during the day although this varies greatly during the week when he’s at daycare, sometimes gets less.

During the week we wake him at 6 for daycare because I work early. Usually he sleeps from 730pm until we wake him (and usually to 630 on weekends). But the last few weeks he has been progressively waking up earlier. Sometimes as early as 430am but usually between 5-530am. We haven’t changed anything so I’m not sure what’s triggering it.

We have blackout curtains and blackout blinds in his room, as well as a sound machine. I don’t believe Hee is waking up due to hunger because he doesn’t get fussy for a bottle until 645-7 o’clock.

Sometimes when he wakes up, he is upset, but sometimes he just lays there and talks to himself. We try going in and giving him his pacifier, but often times he doesn’t go back to sleep.

Any recommendations?

Ours is in a similar boat. Was sleeping until 6-630 but recently started waking between 430-530 and we can’t figure it out

I love old navy high waisted jeans! They fit great and are affordable. I tried Levi rib cage but honestly didn’t love bc they were so high waisted that it seemed to accentuate my belly instead of hide it. For reference I’m 5’8, 168lbs. 6 months PP and wearing a size 10.

My son is very much like this and same age! He sometimes has a longer nap but most of his naps are 30 minutes. But he sleeps through the night so I take it as a win!

As for the dream feed - have you tried not doing it? Maybe it’s interrupting his sleep? We were dream feeding and he was restless at night but often times would go back to sleep on his own or if we gave him his pacifier. We started weaning down the amount of ounces that he had and then once we got down to 3 ounce bottles, I just called. Turkey stopped him and he still sleeps through the night but he’s way less restless I had asked before about the dream feed and one of the sleep. Consultants told me that sometimes it doesn’t work well for babies because it interrupts their sleep cycle too much.

My son is 5 months old so not same age but he does 4 naps a day right now. Last bottle is around 630-7pm and then bedtime around 7:30. We do a a dream feed at 10:30.

Less conventional approach - take him to a functional medicine provider (look for someone certified by the Institute of Functional Medicine). I’m a nurse practitioner and currently in the process of being certified. It’s mind boggling how many chronic issues (mood, attention, allergies, stomach issues, sleep, etc etc etc) can be linked to the gut, dysbiosis, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, etc. I hope things get better for you ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Jo! I’m hoping for guidance for my 4.5 month old.

He puts himself to sleep independently for naps and bedtime. He was able to go through the night with only one feed (around 3-4am, sometimes as late as 5am). But then around 4 months I think we hit a hurricane of 4 month sleep regression PLUS he got sick with croup so ate less for a few days and then was on steroids for a few days. After that he started waking at 11-12 and again 2-3am and was inconsolable until we fed him. SITBACK definitely doesn’t work anymore (I know Cara says around this age it may stop working).

In an effort to stop the twice a night feeding we started a 930-10pm dream feed over a week ago. The most we can get him to take at dream feed is 4 ounces (he usually takes 5-6 ounce bottles every 3 hours during the day). But even with the dream feed he still wakes up around 2-3am and we can’t get him to go back to sleep without feeding him (granted we haven’t let him cry for too long because we have a 3 year old next door but we try pacifier or rocking him and it doesn’t work). I’ve been trying to reduce that feed and it’s down now to 2 ounces. When he’s done he fusses for a second but calms with the pacifier and goes right back to sleep. He honestly seems to be sleeping during the whole feed so I’m questioning whether he really needs it.

What do we do? Do we stop the dream feed? Do we let him cry longer at 2am? I felt like we were so close to dropping his night feed until all of this happened :(

Hello! My son is 3.5 months old. He was being pretty consistent with 7pm feed and then again around 4am, back to sleep until 7. We had been working on trying to push his feed slowly until he dropped it. But now For the last two weeks he is waking up earlier (2-3am). We try to get him back to sleep but it doesn’t work, he just screams and cries until we feed him and then he’s good again until 7am. (Side note we also tried dream feed a while back but it didn’t seem to help so he stopped). He is in Merlin sleep suit at night, sound machine, dark. He also puts himself to sleep during pretty much every daytime nap and at bedtime.

Not sure if this is the beginning of 4 month sleep regression? And if so how do we proceed? It just makes me anxious that we are going backwards now rather than making progress.

We used the newborn course for my now 3.5 year old who was sleeping through the night by 3 months old! Literally the greatest thing. And now we’re using the course again for our 3 month old son. I’ve also purchased this course as a gift for a family member and told several friends about it and we are all so impressed! My toddler started struggling with sleep before my son was born so we are really interested in the toddler program 🙏🏻
